You can usually tell by the amount of particulate matter in the air. I mean there's a lot more smog at the end of the day than at the beginning, and it's the smog that radically alters the sun's color.
Numbers 1 and 5 seem more 'pink' whilst 2, 3, 4 and 6 look more 'orange'.
We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.

But yeah, not an important change, just would be cool to see in a non-animated version.
Nobody ever commented or replied to this idea, so I thought I'd bring it back up, but now...
... with a mock-up! Just wanted to make it clear what I was talking about in the first place.

adywan said:I think that its more like sunrise when they arrive and sunset when they leave. The original colouring was a lot lighter in the approach scenes before the SE and then the 2004 version screwed everything up. I've given the scene a few hints that its sunrise in ESB:R
I wouldn't go by the colouring to determine if it is sunrise or sunset though.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to this one and showing those comparisons shots, Adywan. As I'm not quite sure that the previous posts have guessed correctly (as I think another one might be a 'sunrise' too), I'll just say the point is well made about assuming anything regards the colours seen in either the GOUT or SE sunlit shots.
Depite my previously thinking the flow of the movie cut from 'Luke's daytime training', to 'the Falcon's 'sunset' arrival', to 'Luke's night-time departure', then back to 'daytime on Bespin', it's interesting to see that since you view it that the Falcon arrived at 'sunrise' that you've given the scene 'a few hints' that is the case.
That's great and will help to clarify the look of things.
Oh, and that was a neat little clip, oh_riginal. I personally loved that subtle difference in movement, and hope Ady decides to do it too.
If we are going to get technical... There SHOULDNT be night on Bespin, since the planet is all "clouds" you would only see a dark "sunset" half of the day.
But, having that in mind would force us to change this shot, wich is one of the most beautiful shots of the film.
Sans_fi:If we are going to get technical... There SHOULDNT be night on Bespin, since the planet is all "clouds" you would only see a dark "sunset" half of the day.
I'm sorry... what?
I don't like to use adjectives of a cerebral nature, but that's absurd.
Are you saying when the sun is positioned at the diametric opposite side of the planet to Cloud City that it won't be nighttime? Whether you mean because Bespin is a gas giant or something else, you're quite mistaken. First of all, gas giants aren't just whispy gas clouds all the way through, and even if they were, they sure aren't translucent beyond a mile or two of cloud thickness.
Probably real gas giants arent translucent sice most of their gases are Not traslucent. But in Bespin we can see that most of its gas is oxygen. I dont mean it should be "sunset" all the time, but light would go through, or at least sunsets (and sunrises) would last MUCH more hours that it does on earth.
Anyway i was trying to go to an extreme. Wich i mean is that you shouldnt care too much about what would the sky look like on sunrise or sunset when you are talking about a "giant tibanna gas planet".
I don't think it matters too much whether it's sunrise or sunset either, but your physics on gas giants are completely wrong.
Bespin if far from mostly oxygen. It has a habitable zone 30 miles deep, according to official information. And anyway, gas giants just don't work that way. They are far too dense when you go deeper into them, the gases become thicker until they become liquid. Some gas giants will have a solid core. And light would NOT go through even if it were all oxygen. The duration of sunsets and sunrises has nothing to do with the composition of the planet (in the way you suggest), and everything to do with its rotation. The only reason both might be longer is if the planet rotates on its axis more slowly than Earth does. And while you might assume that would be the case, as gas giants are so much bigger than human-habitable planets like Earth, that's not true either. Quite the opposite in fact. Jupiter has the shortest "day" of all eight planets, at about 9.9 hours, and Saturn's is second shortest, followed by Neptune and Uranus. So, days on Bespin are actually likely to be shorther than a standard (Earth) day.
I didnt mean the duration of the sunset/sunrise was longer because of rotation nor by size of the planet. It just has to be different and "longer" since there is no "land" that covers the sun, so the sun just fades away slowly between the clouds untill you cant see it because you have too many clouds/gas or they are too dense to show it.
On earth the light disappears a few minutes after the sun has passed the horizon. Here, you dont have any horizon to cover the sun, so even when the sun is "under" the horizon you can still see it for a while, thats why its longer.
What i mean is that is not as inmediate as on a standard planet, there is no contrast between earth and sky, so the sun doesnt "set" just "fades". But ok, after a while there should be night.
Okay let's leave it. Obviously where you live clouds don't block out the sun. Last time I checked, a Terran sunset was a gradual fading process, too. At least you concede the revolutionary idea I put forward of a planet having nighttime.

I thought you were singing "Sunrise, Sunset." Shows what happens when you read a thread too fast.
Ady you will play stylized of when its sunrise and sunset. I mean i ve got your point about the similarities of these two, but if you want the real thing is to define what is what with the lighting and the color tones and variation.

While I post this as a joke, I am actually quite intrigued by the idea of alternative window replacements as opposed to just more views of the other buildings, or new display units etc... hm. Maybe a garden somewhere?

I like how it turned out. Better than I was hoping for, actually! The best part is that IG-88's head only turns slightly, so no matter what, the difference was always going to be subtle, which I preferred anyhow. That way the effect doesn't attract too much attention to itself, while still giving IG-88 a little bit more life (at least in my opinion.)

Agreed! I really love how it turned out. I would expect adywan to do something just like this.
I thought I saw a request about seeing a roof garden out of the window??? (maybe not).
Anyway sorry about the mess:

You beat me to it, but I had the same misconception. :)

The deppressing thing is that in the SE cloudcar flyby, you ca clearly see some gardens and grass to the background.
Nice idea ;)

His my take on the room. I just wanted to change the window and the wall.
Choppy aint it
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Ok I am very late in the game but here's two things that irk me in the start of the film.
Ben saying: "The Jedi that instructed me..."
I would just cut it off after Yoda.
Doesn't work well with the prequels.
Luke saying "Ben..Ben..Degobah System..Yoda..Yoda...", all that sleepy talk, it's annoying and sounds really awful and awkward.
I would just cut it and have Han put him in the animal and shut him up.
Ok my try.
Id like to see some of the timpana air balloons in the distance or some cloud cars fly bys.

Lovely stuff there Angel.

It is a suggestion thread ;)
Everyone can suggest things with different and multiple ways either that called text or images ;)
Adobe should be proud :D

Exactly we could write thousands of words explaining a possible change or we can post a single image.
