Just because it was part of his character doesn't make it a him a tolerable character.

I am waiting on TPM Blu Ray with the CG Yoda and Ady to tone down Jar's Jar's antics, I don't hate Jar Jar like others do, but he could get rid of the Eopie farting on Jar Jar and stuff like that. Don't eliminate all Jar Jar's clumsiness though, because that's part of his character, like it or not.

So the CG yoda will be on the TPM bluray? Interesting. Is this official?

I don't think it's actually been officially announced, but a lot of folks consider it a foregone conclusion. IIRC, a documentary on the ROTS DVD mentioned that ILM had already replaced TMP Yoda with the digital model, so many just naturally figured said digital Yoda would be included on the next release. Of course, the latest DVD release was just a repackaging of the previous releases, so no digital Yoda yet, but it seems likely that it would be included in a bluray release.

They only ever showed a few socons of the TPM digital Yoda, and the purpose was for the animators to get back into practice between movies. Similarly they recreated yoda from ESB as a proof of concept before starting on AOTC.

They never did [officially] say IIRC that they would release the film with Yoda's scenes redone, But i guess I could see it happening, I guess the odds of it are about 50/50.

The most likely outcome is that the BD releases will be as equally disappointing as the DVD releases. We all know it....

the TPM puppet yoda, looked nothing like yoda from ESB. i hope they animate him because i cant stand the way he looks and how he moves.

Anyone know why they didn't just do a digital Yoda for TPM in the first place?

Anyway, this is the ESB:R thread so, um...The Empire Strikes Back is one of my favorite movies! There, I said it!

Because Jarjar Binks was the first realistic digital actor to be inserted in a live action setting. So they were spending all their time and money on him. If you recall there was a CG yoda at the very end of TPM and it looks horrible. And it has been confirmed that they completely replaced Yoda in TPM, it was either Rick McCallum or John Knoll who confirmed it along with the fact that a future release of TPM would include the change. I think it was in an article on the official site shortly after ROTS hit DVD.

These are actually two shots: the first one is the one where we see Yoda walk (in an overhead shot) while saying to Obi that the Council gives him the rank of Jedi knight, and the second one is the first overhead shot (yes, again) during Qui-Gon's funeral, right after the establishing shot of the scene. He's on the left corner of the frame.

Yeah, they must have CG-ed a floor in too - since in the documentary you see a large piut in the floor with Frank OZ and other puppeteers.

And it has been confirmed that they completely replaced Yoda in TPM, it was either Rick McCallum or John Knoll who confirmed it

Can someone back this up with proof? [a direct quote or such...] - Not to call anyone a liar but i don't recall ever hearing it confirmed, and until i do i'll continue to consider it fan speculation.

- I would love for it to be true.

it seems likely that it would be included in a bluray release.

All I'm saying is, Don't hold your breathe for this. Just in case.

I know in a SW Insider in the last 2 or so years, Pablo Hidalgo stated the CG Yoda was to show up in a future release of TPM but he didn't know when the release would happen.

The CG Yoda TPM replacement was revealed in a documentary on the Episode III DVD, if I'm not mistaken, and they actually showed a clip of it - I don't own ROTS, though, so I can't post it.  Someone posted a still frame of the new CG Yoda, though, but damned if I remember where - it does look infinitely better than that awful puppet, though.

I checked my photobucket account for that photo and they deleted it for violations of the terms of service, but the TPM puppet yoda is still there.

Maybe Imageshak will be nicer to me.

I wasn't asking for proof of a digital Yoda, I was asking for proof of it actually winding up in a future release of the movie.

yikes, the puppet is really horrible. Never really thought about it before. I don't care much for the prequels

When I watched the special featurette on Anakin Skywalker, the digital Yoda snippet for TPM was a pleasant surprise. I think it looks WAY better than that silly puppet, which looks nothing like Yoda in the rest of the films that he's in.

Hey maybe lucas' special editions of the prequels might be better than the originals. That being said he made the OT suck so it would be like opposite day for the prequels LOL.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

TPM yoda puppet was made to be a "younger" version of Yoda, that's why he is different. Of course for a 970 year old guy, you don't change that much in 10 years I believe!

But it's true that he don't look much younger after all, just different.

Not really a suggestion for ESB:R (unless it was an extra and Adywan has enough on his hands as it is) though if Ady likes the idea and can find a way to pull it off ithat wouldn't upset the pacing of the escape it might work in the edit proper.

To justify Lando's cooperation with Vader against Han & Co it might be a shocking addition to the the panic on the streets and corridors of Cloud City if we saw Imperial ships landing and picking off Cloud Cars (maybe even shooting the crowds ala OS Galactica).

It would underline how much Lando had to balance his responsibilities to the citizens under his care against his loyalty to his friends.

A lot of people still think Lando was a coward (Leia certainly gives him a hard time for it) for caving into Vader but if we see some of the consequences of an Imperial take over of the city the audience would get a better idea of what he had to lose.

It would also remind the audience that it wasn't just the Rebels that Imperials were utter gits to.

When we see Cloud City again during the celebrations we would also get more of an impression that their liberation was personal rther than a political abstract notion.

But you might change a bit living in a swamp for 25 years!! It's akin to an old human going downhill the last 3 years of their life.

Regardless it was still a bit daft to expect a 900+Yr old to look physically that much different in a few decades (he might develop a cough and a bit of a limp in the late winter years of his life, though the limp seems to be put on going by his PT acrobatics).

This is starting to become less of a ESB topic and more of a PT topic so it might make sense to continue the subject over on the various PT threads.

He's also strong in the force and you would think that would be a big help. I get what Sev is saying, but in this case, the only time he probably should've looked different in a sickly sort of way was in ROTJ, where he pretty much looked exactly the same as in ESB when he was healthier. In ROTH, he just looked a bit...sleepier.

I think even some at LFL would admit that the puppet was a big mistake. There must have been people there that thought exactly as we do ('what is this thing we're working on?'), whether they voiced their opinion or not. If they wanted to use a puppet, they should have just used the one from ESB and maybe added a few more strands of hair.

Well, despite the fact that I HATE the TPM puppet, it's preferable to me rather than that CG abomination.  I don't know why, it just doesn't look right to me.

For the record, I'd prefer a puppet over a CG character(especially when yoda is a puppet later on in the series..). But the puppet must be made right of course. Which is not the case in TPM
