The idea was to add smoke and fog to the hologram scene. That the hologram emits from nowhere and vader's chamber is like a small sith temple with unique characteristics. A fog that will have blue-cyan highlights from the holo color. Also the fog hides the floor so we dont know what is behind it.

That idea sounds very cool. Maybe add some sith trappings to the background.

It would be like, as you said, a sith temple in space. His home away from home.

Damn, what we could do with ROTJ.

Remember that art by McQuarrie and Johnston showing Vader's temple surrounded by lava?

This reminds me a bit of Ridley Scott's Legend.

Blown away with how much better the new Emperor hood looks. I almost would suspect you of using some Sith magic Ady. =P The only thing I think would enhance this hologram further would be to have his eyes glow a little more to add to the creepiness.

Everyone has to remember this shot was thrown together for the pre-production trailer over a year ago.  I'm sure it will look even better now.

Nah. He'll pull a Lucas SW SE and let the finished Jabba scene sit on the shelf after it was finished at the end of 95, despite advancements from Dragonheart and other movies to make it look better.

The original SE Jabba animator, Steve Williams, asked George over and over if he could adjust it in '96 to take advantage of the new advancements in lip animation, namely the Cari software developed for Dragonheart.

Gee, I kinda went off on a tangent there didn't I?

Ady would never do something like that

I did not know any of that.  Good tangent!

I tried to put all your ideas in to one mockup.

So smokey effect, slight off angle and glowing eyes =

Smokey glowiy eyed tilt

I don't really like it myself but it's an interesting experiment (I prefer Ady's take but maybe someone else can do all these bits better than me).

I like the glowing eyes less than imagined. I prefer the shadow over the hoodie.

The emperor looks more like he did in ROTJ. Is their a way to do that for ROTS. The red around his eyes in revenge is what ruins him. The emperor was almost in grayscale in ROTJ which works. I dont want my evil bad guys to look warm and alive. I want a dead corpse look. The good in them is gone they are cold. Shit even vader was grayscale. The ROTS emperor was just odd.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The glowing eyes are gay. lmao

The Sith aren't Goa'uld for crying out loud.....

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

The only color the emperor should have is the blue tints in his cloak and the original ROTJ sith eyes.

i actually haven't done much to the Emperor since the trailer. I've been trying out different techniques to try and match the ROTJ elements with the movement of the 2004 version. its a bloody hard task but one thing i have accomplished t being able to have the side shot of the Emperor when he says " He could destroy us" which as darth editous pointed out is missing from the 2004 version. I have eve managed to have the lips sync perfectly. The trailer will have a tweaked version of the Emperor hologram but t won't be the final version because there is just too much work left to do on it. As for having glowing eyes then that is a definite no . the same goes for changing the angle of the background and adding smoke or other things. this scene rally doesn't need anything else added to it. The holograms in the PT are going to be downgraded and visually match the OT, maybe even lower tech because after all the Pt shouldn't be so much more hi-tech than the OT when its set in the past. And the " its a much more prosperous time" excuse is just lame. Our world has been in much more prosperous times but our technology is more advanced now than it ever was. cockpits, displays and even some ships will have a complete OT overhaul in the PT

I'm actually struggling to find the pics for tonights previews. I've shown so much already i'm trying to keep a few surprises for the movies release, so don't expect some huge revelation shots this time.

Was just looking over all the lovely Cloud City pics that Ady posted again, and I remembered a couple of issues that I know have been discussed, but it was so long ago that I can't remember exactly what's happening with them.

I think I'm right in saying that Ady is restoring the 'Bring my shuttle' line of Vader's (thankfully!), but is the SE shot of Vader and co walking out across the landing platform being scrapped? Having studied both takes, with and without the landing platform, I think that the cut away from Vader just leaving the building is harsher than the cut away from Vader walking out across the platform. I feel that, because the following scene is an outside shot (Luke under Cloud City), the landing platform scene creates a better flow within the movie (being an outside shot as well) than the other, platorm-less cut. Also, because it's so minimal (lasting a mere second or two), I didn't think that it was a gratuitous addition, but rather one which subtly and creatively expanded Cloud City further.

Of course, the scene wouldn't work if Vader's original line is being restored, but it would be feasible (I'd imagine, anyway!) to paint out the shuttle already there and have the platform empty, awaiting Vader's ship. This way, the scene could feature in ESB:R.

Also, is the scene of Vader's shuttle flying towards the Executor from Bespin being excised? I think I remember talk that this scene isn't going to make ESB:R, but I'm not overly sure.

Again, having recently studied both takes, with and without this SE addition, I feel that this addition is minimal and subtle enough that it doesn't detract from the flow established in the film at this point. The 'Falcon-Tie Fighters' chase hasn't started yet, so it doesn't clutter that sequence, and I feel that it makes the transition from 'Vader-on-Bespin' to 'Vader-on-Executor' more palatable, whereas before (due to the time apart from seeing Vader) it was slightly sudden when he appeared on the bridge of the Executor.

Any knowledge of Ady's plan of action for these sequences?

I've been saying either crop out the shuttle or paint it out, but I don't think Ady was going to do it.

I have to respectfully disagree. They chopped the score up with the new cuts for one. Secondly, when Vader says "bring my shuttle", we know where he's headed and it aint on vacation.

And Vader disembarking from the shuttle.......did Lucas really think we wouldn't spot Jerjerrod at the bottom of the ramp?

And the shuttle landing scene takes way too much time and completely disrupts the flow of the Falcon-Tie chase...and the music behind it.

See....intense chase...chase, chase, intesity, music swelling, slow ROTJ outtake, chase ,chase, intensity rebuilding.

I was gonna ask you if you were gonna downgrade the PT. Thank you soo much. It's a little early to say it but. I would love more of the OT's music in the PT. The OT was just so much darker. I will more than enjoy the future of the PT.

Sometimes less really is more.

^ Oh, no, I agree - I'm completely against the landing scene of Vader's shuttle in the Death Star II's hangar bay! That scene does clutter the Falcon chase and destroy the pace here. I was just talking about the landing-platform on Bespin shot and the shot of Vader's shuttle flying to the Executor (but not landing inside of it!); the shot of Vader's shuttle flying to the Executor happens before the Falcon chase, and before Luke is even picked up by the Falcon, and so it doesn't really infringe on the flow at this point in the movie (or the music progression).

Oh cool. Yeah, the landing platform one is cool.

If there were a way to have the musical cues match up better in the cut, then I'd wouldn't complain about Vader's shuttle to Executor.

If the score blends better. Right now the ESB SE is too choppy with it.

I think the SE Vader's shuttle to Executor is just 2 shots.

Might not hurt things.

But does it really add anything?

Seriously, beyond seeing the shuttle go to the actual ship, is it worth the addition.

Part of the problem I have with many of the SE changes were things Lucas went way overboard with in the Prequels, namely fx shots of ships zipping back and forth and landing. After awhile, it loses the human element and becomes boring.

That's why I went off in the prequel thread about prequel landing shots. Show us something different for once George. Can you maybe show Anakin and Padme landing and Geonosis and maybe looking at each other? Something different.

Instead, he used fx as a storytelling crutch too many times.

But anyway....back to ESB:R

all of the SE additions as they escape bespin will be removed. It will be returned to how it was pre-SE. As was mentioned the music score was butchered and we don't need to see another platform shot. Damn Lucas and his sudden obsession with landing platforms. lol. vader sounds much more menacing with the way he says "bring my shuttle". We don't need to see the shuttle on the landing platform. Why does GL suddenly think so amny things need so much explanation? The "bring my shuttle" line explains how he got from bespin to the Executor so do we need to see the shuttle waiting for him or his journey to the executor? No.

Yes. He sounds very PO'ed when he says "Bring My shuttle".

And the SE dialogue sounds like it was recorded in a tin box.

edit

When I first saw ESB SE in theatres I seriously thought the new line was done by the voice of Vader for the SW radio plays, Brock Peters. But Lucasfilm said it was James Earl Jones.

Lucas just wanted to show off the enviroment a bit more, it was so closed in before. I personally don't care anymore and I think it works either way, nothing to get up in arms about one way or another.

Ady - i was supposed to message about this a couple of days ago but got quite busy. I'm not sure if this will help in any way when it comes to your models etc, but i just saw in the shops here in Australia a new set of fortnightly (i think) Star Wars magazines called 'The Official Sharships and Vehicles collection'. With each magazine you get a different 'ready made' miniture model with it that i supposed could be used when refilming some of your scenes. Looks like you've got it in the UK as well - http://starwarsvehicles.deagostini.co.uk/ Cheers Ben
