There was a reason why i did a purist version for ANH:R and that reason doesn't count for ROTJ:R. In fact i might run a competition sometime to see if anyone can figure out the real reason behind the purist edition.

The only two reasons I can think of:

1) To please people who were put off by some of the Revisited changes
2) As a sort of test for ... something (the AVCHD version?)

And I think you should at least strongly consider talking to the people over at the Replica Props forum.  Sure, there's risk involved in transit, but it's possible that some of the people in posession of the needed prop replicas might live close enough to you to render that a moot point.  You never know.  I understand that you enjoy the prop-building aspect of this, though, so I can understand if you'd rather do it yourself than rely on someone else's work.

There's no stopping other editors from making a ROTJ:R Purist Edition (that is taking some elements from it but keeping the original story largely intact).

The way I read it when it wss brought up, I thought it was more of a plea to release, not so much a 'Purist Edition,' but an as-is, color corrected version, as a stepping stone for other edits. Same with ESB. I could be wrong, as I'm just guessing at other people's thinking.

Ady, did you see my post about R2 falling into the hole/service bay after he fixes the hyperdrive? Any thoughts?

I am against the ROTJ Lando dies big story changes. I know it's your version of course, I would definitely wanna watch and see what you have in mind, but I would hope big time there would be a purist version too. New effects and polishes are fine, but major story changes it's hard for me to live with. If it wouldn't be too much trouble to have both versions that would be great! I would beg and plead for a purist version.

So my hope of ESB:R being done by Christmas 2009 are dashed?

i agree. lando dying doesn't fit into my imagination. i'd just feel lost if that part of the story changed. so if you do kill off lando, create a purist verison like sev said. /\ /\

As a means to please OT.com people who think the SE was an abomination to begin with and would die before seeing more wanton changes to their beloved OT?

Because people were bitching and you wanted to shut them up?

Because some of your views changed after you released it and you later decided you'd rather make a more conservative edit?

Because you wanted to make a "standalone" Revisited trilogy and a prequel-concious Revisited saga?

Any of these close?

I imagine that to make a project like ANH:R would require cleaning up and restoring both the OUT and SE so they matched up when cutting from one to the other.

So a Purist Edit would be almost arrive at the same time anyway (not that it didn't require any extra work) so it would be a waste of labour intensive time not to put them both out.

Don't know if these have been discussed before but they always bothered me.

As Luke watches the Falcon blast out of the rebel base his head turns but doesn't seem to be synced with the falcon, like he's looking in the wrong direction.

And (and this thing kind of thing bugs me in lots of movies!) when the swamp creature spits R2 out on Dagobah we see Luke watching his flight but his eyes don't roll smoothly because he had nothing to look at for reference. Instead his eyes fix on several places.

What they should've done is have someone off camera  even just wave a stick or something to show the path of R2 so that Mark could follow it with his eyes.

Hope I explained that well enough :-\

That of course means you're killing Lando, if so, great! Go for it!!!

But this^ Han quote could also be taken as Han sensing he could die. And, Harrison always thought Han should die in the end, right?

So if your plan is to kill Han, I'd love tat too! You're absolutely right, ROTJ needs a bittersweet ending, and I can't think of anything better to achieve this than to kill them both, Lando AND Han!

So I say to the "purists", no flaming, lol. I'd really love it if both of them were to be killed in the end. :D

aaaaaannnndddd.....sorry for going off topic with ROTJ stuff, but hey, you brought it up! ;)

PS. If there's a way to show without any doubt that Boba died in tatooine, that'd be great as well.

No god no dont kill them. Why is it that everytime a movie full of white folks the only cool brother gotta die. And if you are gonna kill anything kill the annoying max reebo band

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I'm iffy about Lando dying, but I'm all for Han dying.  I know it completely ruins the EU, and I do enjoy the Thrawn trilogy, but as it is, in ROTJ you never really *feel* like the characters are in danger.  Killing Han would really help that.  Lando, on the other hand, would die at the very end, when it doesn't matter anymore, though sacrificing his life to end the Empire after betraying his friends to them would be rather poetic.

On second thought, go for it!  Kill Lando too!

-edit-

Right, this is the ESB:R thread ... sorry ... back on topic!

Going by the big rubbish explosion over the Sarlacc pit (and no visable means of escape) it looks like the Max Reebo Band don't make it through any version of ROTJ.

So i guess if Han dies how are we gonna see the celebration scene with the Ewoks, Han ,Luke, Leia?

Again I beg and plead for a purist version if any major character bites it.

I am not to keen on han dying. I mean Han is a character I love. I wouldnt at all mind having someone else die but please leave han out of it. I mean a fan edit is great just dont make it a fan butcher.

Han isn't going to die. And again i state that there will never be a purist version of ROTJ:R

People need to keep in mind that the Revisited Project is Ady's vision of Star Wars. I know that all of our input in this thread has made it feel like a group project or OT-by-committee, but that's not what adywan intended. We're here to point out things that need fixing, not debate the merits of adywan's choices. Ady has always been up front and honest about the radical changes he plans to make to ROTJ and the prequels. Those with strong attachments to the movies have plenty of viewing options, including several other fan edits. You could even take the time to learn the process and do your own fan edit. Ady was no pro when he started. He was just like us.

Basically, when adywan says "This is what I'm doing," that's the end of the story. I've rarely seen him change his mind, least of all because someone here begged him to. The best thing anyone reading this thread could do for themselves is remember this is adywan's fan edit. We're lucky he's sharing it with us. I think it's awfully presumptuous of people to argue or debate his changes as if he should try to suit everyone's tastes. If his primary goal was satisfying every Star Wars fan, he would never have started the Revisted project in the first place.

Speaking of the END of EMPIRE, this shot always bugged me.  The Falcon leaves and zips off... to where again?  The galaxy is THAT way (pointing down, as they fly upwards).

Is there any way Ady could ... show the Falcon heading TOWARDS the galaxy and not into random space?

Astronomically speaking, what you're seeing in these shots is ANOTHER galaxy beyond the edge of the galaxy in which Luke and company are situated.  It's like looking up and seeing the Andromeda galaxy in our own night sky -- it's not WITHIN our own Milky Way galaxy, we can just see it beyond our own cluster of stars.  As such, the Falcon is not heading into nothingness; the other galaxy is not their destination.

Now, whether or not such a galaxy would look that close is another matter (something that your mockups exaggerate Vaderios).  I guess considering people can hop around all over the galaxy in the Star Wars universe, it's possible that wherever the Rebel fleet is at the end of ESB just happens to be very close to said galaxy.

BTW, I personally like the idea that it could be the Rishi Maze mentioned in AOTC.

Are the pictures on the left the before and the pictures on the right the after?

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but it's not up for debate, and even if it was, this isn't the proper place. This is adywan's project, and if he wants to make Yoda orange, it's his choice. It's downright rude to get bent out of shape over his choices and clog up the wrong thread with complaints. Some of you need to respect the man's right to change what he wants. Ady has always had intelligent and insightful reasons behind every decision in this project.

If you don't like what he's doing, you're free to watch any of the other fan edits or make your own.

Adywan, I'm amazed you are working on this one frame at a time and able to get it done within a reasonable amount of time. I did the math awhile ago and I think I figured if you just spend one hour working on every frame. It would take you 20 years and that is without eating, sleeping, or shitting. So I have no idea how you're able to get this done within a reasonable amount of time.

If we are to assume that is actually a galaxy, then wouldn't it ALWAYS be visible, no matter where you were, whether it be Tatooine or Coruscant? A galaxy that close to the Star Wars galaxy should always be visible I would think.

I don't see why the forming star theory isn't good enough. A forming star looks similar to that image anyway.

I guess it doesn't matter, since Ady isn't changing it anyway, right?

Yes, it definitely does not make sense for it to be a galaxy. However, it also doesn't make sense for it to be a star forming. The area around a new star is a highly volatile place. You wouldn't want to be cruising anywhere near it.

If that is what will happen, I'm not gonna judge until I see the final product.  Maybe Lando's death will make the story more powerful.
