I'm almost certain ady is only going to have a music only track, but I was curious ady if you wanted maybe someone to do an audio cmmentary on the music? I'm pretty well versed int it lol

Nice mock-up, Sevb32.  However, that exterior still doesn't fully jive with the interior shots that we see.

As you can see from my diagram below, my curiosity got the better of me.  All this talk of missing windows and incongruous architecture made me want to see for myself if the layout of Cloud City (at least the section we see) made sense visually.  So I popped in ESB and mapped out everything we see, beginning with the shot of Leia pacing in front of the window, to the moment the doors open up for Vader's reveal.  Surprisingly, the interior shots themselves seem to make sense:

I know some people were saying there were inconsistencies with the doors Han, Chewie, and Lando walk through, but I can't honestly say I see where the problems lie.  Using the silver ball and plant shown above as a reference point, the characters' entrances seemed to make perfect sense to me.

Also, Ady, I couldn't pick out the scene in which you believe the large window is missing.  Every shot I looked at seemed to be FROM the side of the room with the window looking TOWARDS the doors.  The only exception may have been the shot of Han and Leia talking face to face while sitting down, but even then the background is so overexposed it's hard to say what exactly is behind them anyway.

As I see it, the only problem that remains is the external shot of the apartment.  For one, the roof beyond Leia's apartment needs to be higher to account for the two sets of stairs leading up and out of the room.  Also, there needs to be structures visible on either side of Leia's room (another apartment or hallway to the left, and an elevator or hallway to the right).

That proves that the scene need a new matte for sure. Thank you for that.

I was hoping you might toss an idea or two our way Vaderios :)

I like your new building design; I say just double the window size and it could work quite well.

I will make a simple 3d model with your blueprint. to see how it looks in space.

Very interesting, but how can Ady incorperate this into the moving fly thru shots? I'd hate to see those cut out. Or maybe the same fly thru can be kept up and the scene just cuts to this building somehow. Hmmmm

The shot after the fly by is stable with a pseudo camera movement. It can be done with 2d Elements.

Here's an idea for a possible design for the exterior of the cloud city building with the window...

Rough sketch:

I thought maybe the 'light shaft' would end in a dome, and there'd be 4 or 5 apartment/penthouse 'pods' around it... There could be elevator shafts or something between the pods if needed. Building continues to the right of course.

Its like Crypton! Interesting idea. Now it must be a way to blend it in the rest of the architecture.

Nice design Vaderios!  You did a good job keeping the look of the building consistent with the rest of Cloud City.

Satanika, very interesting and original design -- but would it fit with the rest of Cloud City in terms of looks?

I have to thank corellian77 for reading my mind and actually drawing out the rough sketch I was trying to draw EXACTLY as I envisioned it.  You did forget the set of stairs they go down after your "elevator?" marking.

Vaderios, great 3-D model, I'm sure you can work with it to make perfection.

Darth Piccolo, like most of Vaderios' work, the dynamic lightsaber lighting is great, but practically impossible to do frame by frame.  Sucks, I know.

Several round windows in the Dining room too.

Ady,

Great work as usual. Was wondering if you were going to do something to the matte painting of the gantry/shaft/control room exterior? Specifically, the current establishing shot does a faux zoom. It doesn't ring true because the zoom is more or less static, that is, both foreground and background elements zoom at the same rate. I hope I'm not confusing the issue. Another forum member addressed this in a video demo, but i can't recall who that was. Keep up the great work.

Best,

I think Ady is making a whole new gantry/shaft/control room exterior, so no worries.

This might sound a bit daft but bear with me for a moment.

Perhaps one way around the shifting, door/window problem would be to have the upper suites rotatable (the suites may be designed to entertain rich buyers who visit the city and they might like to have a room they can move around to catch different views.

The two interior doors could then line up (according to where they turn) with two completely different exterior doors (much like a fit with a door at both ends, someone pushing the door button on one side would automatically rotate the room in a gentle fashion so it lined up with the door on the inside).

We could see the top of the building begin to rotate and a shutter come down and then Han comes in from one door (setting up the rotating possibility of the room) and when Chewie and Lando come in it wouldn't matter if the doors were not right because the room has rotated without the audience seeing it because the shutter is down.

Some of the design suggestions above could fit into this idea as the look small enough to be rotatable modules.

It also would explain the changing lighting.  Wow.  I'm impressed!

The 3d model was a rough to show how the blueprints are in 3d space. I can work over them in Photoshop.

The interactive saber lighting is possible with the video tutorial i posted.

Nice Idea there Bingo, as always ;)

I saw the video tutorial in the ESB/ROTJ thread, but it didn't find its way here.  It could be done though!
