If you mean the shot of them on the long walkway, BEFORE they get to the gantry, they are definitely there, but also definitely faint. If you look at it from an angle (using the lcd angle to make them brighter), you can see them on mine, but normally it is very hard to make them out.

Hmmm, I thought it was more of a viewscreen inside rather than an actual window anyway. I don't see why a black bar is bad, it could easily have a built in camera device.

In that case why have a window on the outside at all (assuming it is a window)?

Ok, faint panels, but they aren't consistant with the other shots. They are easy to see when Vader is standing on the gantry, not so when they are dueling. Maybe they could be brightened or darkened? One or the other, as long as they are consistant in all the shots.

he has a great site of how-to-build models. He also takes commissions if time, scale, and detail is a factor. I only mention it as Ady said he wanted to build several models for new shots. it might come in handy for scratch-building some models.

Okay, I've just logged onto a local 'public access' computer out of curiosity, as this place has been kitted out with Dell LCD monitors throughout, in the past couple of years.

I'm really surprised at how different the shots of Vader and Luke 'duelling' in the middle of the 'gantry, look! (and therefore ALL shots that Adywan has ever previewed in the past, will be equally different too)  The colouring is SO DARK on these monitors, compared to my own.  What I'm seeing on the Dell ones, are totally black areas instead of the various lovely detail and nuances that I can see on my own one (Hewlett-Packard just for the record).  I'm sure lots of different people are getting different colours, depending on the different monitors they are using, and the way they are adjusted.  However, this is a radically-different colouration to mine, that I'm seeing here, just now.

And where this particular 'Revisited' shot looked wonderfully vibrant on mine, it is missing a lot of it's glory on this monitor.  (by the way the SE DVD comparison shot beside it is equally black on this Dell too, so the dark areas just look identical on them both)  For instance, on mine I can see Adywan's improved shot has a very definate vibrant ORANGE for the 'horizontal' lights that wrap around the 'surrounding wall' background, but on here they still seem very RED.  The whole colouration information looks muted too, compared to my own monitor, unfortunately.

Unless it's MY monitor that is showing a false colouration, I reckon a few folks like Sevb32 might not be getting a true indication of just how good Adywan's finished shots are going to look.  This is true of any eventual TV / DVD set-up that you watch the finished thing on, too, of course.  For instance, I've had a look at how 'Star Wars:Revisited' (the exact same copy) appears on several different TV models now, and while wonderful on all of them, the good, well-set up ones blew me away with just how vibrantly colourful the final version can be.

In the meantime, ALL the shots I'm seeing previewed for 'Empire:Revisited' look tremendous on my own monitor, and I know the eventual DVD will seem even better.

By the way, looking at the last couple of pages on this 'public access' computer here, it seems some to the shots posted previously are not showing....  One of the missing ones is the 'Vader talking to Luke at the end of the gantry' comparison shot, that I posted on the previous page (255), yet the immediate following post that I made after that (which shows the 'duelling' shot and the ION Cannon comparisons) ARE showing okay.  Strange, as the first ones were definately showing on mine a couple of hours ago, when I last looked.

The ones that are no longer showing, just have a grey box with a tiny white square in the corner, which has a red 'x' in the middle.  I'm curious to know if Adywan and others here can see ALL these particular posted shots okay, or if it's just a quirk of this particular 'public access' browser, or not....

Video card/chip also figures into the equation.  Onboard video, which is probably what that one you're using has, are simple and cheap.  I'm sure your home machine has a real video card, so that's going to put more effort into generating a proper picture.

But just to be sure, adjust that monitor to neutral - put all the brightness, color, contrast and other image settings to 50% and see how it looks then.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

i thought i'd better post this clip as there has been a lot of discussion about this scene. But this will definitely be the last one until the trailer. again the audio is a temp track so please no more comments about the levels of the fx etc. Most of the live action shots aren't the final versions but you'll have to wait until ESB:R is released to see those. Don't want to spoil everything. lol

ION CANON 720p XVID

That.  Was.  Cool.

If that is any indication on the rest of it, the wait is just going to be that much harder.

I guess one extra little bit to add:
on the very opening shot of the rebels outside the mountain hanger opening, the mountain is bluish compared to the white foreground.  I understand this is (1) the matte matching with the live-action shot and (2) a way of making the 2 stand out (though the mountain could be more whitish-grey than bluish), but also, there is a patch of white around the left gun tower.

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/3543/ndvd000j.th.jpg

I would see if you could blend the mid-ground in the center and on the right side with the mountain better, and at least make the area behind the rebel soldier and tower on the left bluish (or the whitish-grey if you change the mountain color) behind them.  Maaaybe spice up the hanger entrance or deep inside (so it's not just black with some lights).  I guess this would also apply to all of the shots that are similar to this one (when Han enters on his Taun-Taun, etc)

I guess one more (though this is no biggie):

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/3647/ndvd001.th.jpg

Would it be conceivable to show the hanger and maybe the ion cannon in the distance behind the rebel transport?   In fact, shouldn't we be able to see the line (where the AT-AT battle takes place) off to the left?

I know this is crude (via Paint) but something like this:

I'm almost in tears.  That was AMAZING.  ImperialFighter, he used several of our suggestions!  I'll update this post later with the comparisons...

COMPARISONS:

Basically, everything is more awesome!  And the transport goes to lightspeed!!!

Looking nifty, ady. A few things I noticed, if I may:

1) The other turret is back, though in what looks to be a different perspective than originally. This changes what the terrain looks like, but since you've already overtly done that, it works. It'll just take some getting used to.

2) I love the electric crackling as the cannon gears up to fire each blast. That looks great, and furthers the look you're going for in the bolts themselves.

3) Noticed the X-Wing getting blown up in front of the transport (a cool touch, but it felt like a bit of an afterthought, personally -- maybe just because at that point, you can't see any other ships but the transport). Is this a sign of more ship casualties/skirmishes to come in the final version? ;-)

4) I like what you've done with the ion blasts hitting the Star Destroyer -- the way the blasts interact with the ship looks really good (you've done a great job with the interactive lighting, too). However . . .

5) There appears to be something of a continuity error. At 00:31, when the shot changes, the crackling has pretty much subsided from the two blasts we see hit the SD in the first, frontal shot; but when it changes to the rear three-quarters view, there's some electricity going on the left side of the ship that wasn't there before the angle changed. Since there wasn't another blast coming, and the crackling down that side of the ship seemed to have subsided, the cut doesn't flow right, at least not to me. Perhaps continuing the electrical activity down that side a little longer in the first shot would fix this?

6) I like the flickering of the engine lights on the SD as it's going down, but they seem to be flickering in a pattern. It works, overall, but I found myself wondering whether they would do so in such an organized way, or if the flickering would be more random (I realize, however, that as the camera pans, the pattern allows for more engine flickering to be seen as the SD disappears offscreen).

Anyway, just some thoughts; I love what you're doing, and it's great to see a new clip! Keep up the great work, and as always, let me know if there's anything I can do to help. :-)

Take care,
Sojourn

P.S. I'm loving the 720p resolution. :-)

What a relief to finally (after so many broken promises from GL) not see through those X-wings.

Everything looks so clean and crisp, it really looks like it was filmed yesterday and not nearly three decades ago.

Wow. I am extremely impressed. I love how the x-ing gets shot as they try to escape, and the whole thing is just beautiful to look at.

This is absolutely great work, Adywan! But it also brought some logical thoughts to me with it. I think screenplay should be overdubbed from

"Our first catch of the day"  to

"Our first target today".

It came immidiately to my mind as I saw SD shooting at Rebel Transport. Makes one wonder why are they shooting at them if they want to "catch" them. You might overdub it yourself too , cause you're english. :-)

720p looks really great. Cheers and a big thanx!

wise you must be.

No, no, no.  Take yer time.  I can wait for Christmas.  I mean, it could come out by Christmas... right?

I mean, it would be a nice birthday present for you-know-who...

In regards to the "Good.  Our first catch of the day"
Well, fishermen usually catch fish and then eat them, so as a hunting term it fits perfectly.

WoW

This looks amazing, thanks Ady !

I am looking forward to the trainer :)

2 things I am wondering about though:

1, Should there perhaps be some of ground activety when the transport and Xwings shoot up? like some small base or small ships or the ground? just a hint of something?

2, When the ION cannon controller keeps looking at her controll screen whilst waiting for the destroyer to get in range, shouls there perhaps be added soem animations to the screen? it looks abit inanimate.

Anyone (not necessarily Ady if he's too busy) want to upload a top/bottom comparison vid of the new shot and the DVD?  There's been a LOT of improvements and it would be great to see them side-by-side.

I didn't even notice the X-wing getting blown up the first time around, nor did I notice the bridge windows being extended.  It just felt right from start to finish.  The attention to detail and continuity is so very, very nice to behold.  Good stuff. :)

The windows aren't extended Ady MOVED the officers to the front of the ship so it no longer looks like they're sliding past the planet!  Isn't that awesome?!

I don't have the tech to do a video comp.  It would be cool though.

Beautiful work, ady! I've literally had to forget about your project for the last few months because the anticipation is KILLING ME! Now that I've had some time to go back through the last 150 pages and see all of the clips you've generously provided I have to say I'm not sure it will be possible to forget again. Waiting + bated breath = me.

Cheers!

Awesome clip Ady. However, I feel that in the "first catch of the day" shot, Hoth should probably get bigger faster.

i haven't done anything to that shot yet. i'm hoping to do a new digital matte

I did fix that error that is in the original but me being too quick to get this clip finished & uploaded i omitted a few layers. the continuity will be correct in the final version

The flickering of the lights were like that in the original. there wasn't much i could do about that because it started to look odd when merged with the original elements.

1. These ships are pretty high up in this shot and the scale of everything wouldn't allow you to see anything on the ground. You definitely wouldn't see the hangar entrance or any ships on the ground.

2. this is another shot that i will be working on

not really because  the ships are just in orbit at this stage. they are just waiting around in their various positions. speeding it up would make it look like they are racing towards the planet.
