the idea of 3po not appearing til ROTS doesn't bug me, but how will you be able to pull that off with all the scenes he's appeared in?

When I first heard Anakin built (actually rebuilt) C-3PO I cringed because it seemed contrived, but that was only because I saw the OT first, if I had seen Episode 1 first it would not seem so small and contrived, it works if you watch them from 1-6 for the first time. It's also symbolic of what Anakin largely becomes. The droids are Anakin and Padme's and they are left with the Organas and Captain Antilles at the end of EP3. Why is that so bad, or hard for some people?

Owen not recognizing 3PO is a no-brainer, it's 22 years since he's seen him, C3PO is gold plated, a common looking droid and not the grungy thing he was 22 years prior. Owen seems to regard droids as only appliances anyway, and never even is told 3PO's name by the time he dies a day or two later in ANH.

It all just seems a bit too convenient. 3PO does or says nothing important in all of the PT. He could probably be painted out frame by frame. I would however like to see 3PO in all three movies. Just have him property of Padme throughout the PT, that way some of his interactions with R2 could be preserved.

But, like I said, would it still seem so convenient if you had not seen the OT first?

On the EU issue, it's strange to me why EU doesn't count and carries no weight of truth to some people, but yet a fanedit does.

As I understand it, Adywan doesn't count the EU, because it's not in the movies, especially in  the OT, which for him is probably the backbone of his edits. Sure you can make suggestions, but he stated that for him the EU is irelevant for his fanedit, which doesn't have to mean that he doesn't like to read a EU book or something like that. He set the limits of his fanedit universe which are within the bounds of OT universe. Simple as that.

Sorry to be a git about it but this thread is really about ESB:R, other threads are out there for other projects (I'm as guilty as anyone of going a bit OT here but it would be a shame if this thread became bogged down in discussions which could and should take place somewhere else).

I think I mentioned elsewhere but for ESB I am rather keen to get rid of that pointless tiny shot of Han on his Tauntaun as he is talking to Luke just before the Wampa attack.

We hear him speaking, so we don't need to see him and it is a really bad special effects shot.

It could be replaced if the sound mix can't be jigged to account for the missing frames but as it stands it sticks out like a sore thumb (for me).

But what you replace it with? It isn't just a case of changing the sound to account for missing frames but how about the missing frames between the two shots of Luke? pretty much impossible because the jump would stick out like a sore thumb. I have been able to fix some missing frames of Luke in the wampa cave where one shot was split in two from the original to add the wampa footage and 5 frames became lost, but that was just 5 frames.

As you can see it would be impossible to remove that shot of Han without causing a major problem.

Perhaps you could make a new shot (yes it's more work and I know you already have a lot on your plate) just a snow shot or a snow shot with some mysterious movement to set up the Wampa stomp. Alternatively you could swap a shot from the sequence where Han goes out looking for Luke (where perhaps a tiny long distance shot of Han might add to the feeling of desolation during at that point in the story where it makes more sense) but anything would be better than that shot at that point.

The really hard work option would be attempting to get the Tauntaun's head to drift in (via a model insert) and out of the shots to cover the missing frames.

Great work at bringing back those frames, it's always nice to see more Mark even if it is just a few frames.

Or how about a panning shot of the surrounding area as viewed through Lukes eyes with a brief snow drift with wind SFX, as if to show Luke is still scanning his surroundings during the conversation, and misses the approaching Wampa, thus adding to the surprise of the attack?

That'll do, there must be plenty of films you could pull a suitable snowscape from (good thinking that Red chap).

Im not really red...

You could use one of those frames Tyler Derton spliced into his movies whilst working in the cinema in Fight Club?

Nor did i until i thought about it. It helps bring the OT upto more modern standards of viewing if you get rid of some of the older more iffy SFX shots. No?

The more I watch Ady's color corrected SE the more I think some of the Wampa shots need to stay. Maybe the first couple of shots should be cut but I think we should still see the thing coming for Luke. Of course, I believe Ady's word was final on this one but I do see the new shots as an improvement. The lack of seeing the full Wampa doesn't say "less is more" as much as it says "this was a clever way to get around limited technical capabilities". I feel like it's good that you don't see the Wampa when it captures Luke and the TaunTaun but when the thing starts coming for Luke you should first see it in it's full glory and say "Oh sh*t!"

on that subject. don't you think luke would've noticed the wampa? or was it barried in a hole? well, i guess in the novel it talked of it jumping out of the snow and attacking a probe droid. idk.

the whol han thing, never bothered me once. i think that part should just be kept in there.

Just as long as the Wampa looks like this:

and not this (I think it's the lack of a nose and recognizable face that's kinda odd - besides, I like the Yeti look):

Not to mention that bit with the NeoWampa waggling around in pain after his arm was lopped off looked pretty hokey (you know, kind of like when Bob and Tom start doing the really loud fake laughing just to make their guest feel good?)

Bob and Tom?, you must be from Indiana like me! Most people probably did not get that because they are not from Indiana.

I think a lot of radio hosts do that, not just Bob and Tom. I mean, if they don't laugh, it's just kinda dead air. And most suck up to the host anyway. :p

Nice pics of the prop and the close-up! I is funny how the SE costume looks so radically different than the earlier shots. What is wrong with them and not noticing such things? Sure, pobody's nerfect (in Australia), but it's not even subtle.

Well the film used Wampas used in 1979 didn't all look exactly alike either. I just thought sthey could be different Wampas, Luke was attack and hung up by one and the other one is seen in the lair.

Funny - I'm from NW Indiana (Michigan City, to be exact).  Though I'm living in Chicago for school now.

I find it equally disturbing how i keep on agreeing with the changes proposed to the best film ever made.

Good stuff guys. Keep up the ideas as there are ideas out there which go beyond my imagination (which doesnt run too deep). Thats the appeal of this site.

The problem with the full shot of the Wampa is that for some reason its obvious that its a man in padded suit. And, it looks like a gift i'd give to my youngest as a bed time pal. But there again im quite sick in that way.

I thought id get the reply questioning if id put a man in a padded suit in bed with my little one as a bed time pal, and in that case id say..........Yep!

Crikey, i need to stick a smiley on the end of that sentance as not to upset anyone (ie. my wife!).

I ment the cuddley teddy Wampa hunny (by now she knows my SOH crosses the line sometimes.....i hope) ;-)
