Is it against the rules for adywan to do some kind of raffle to help raise money for equipment? The prize could be an original signed Star Wars painting by the man himself. I know I would buy a few raffle tickets for that. Or is that considered profiting from your fan-edit (even though no one is paying for a copy of said fan-edit)? If doing a fan-edit trashes your computer, fans chipping in to fix it isn't really profit, it's recouping losses, right?

Just a thought.

Adywan is no stranger to taking donations.  He has a Paypal account to donate to at any time.  Though eBaying his painting would be awesome, but if I was him, I'd want to keep it.

Yes, Ady could just put the Paypal address back into his signature again. I have a feeling he won't, though.

Oh, and asterisk8 did say "an original signed Star Wars painting," not the original signed Star Wars painting. ;) I would hope Ady would keep the original forever.

I hate the yub yub ending. The SE is way better. The music is great and we see more which is needed.

Let me guess your under 20, right? Most young people love the 04' SE DVDs, most 40+ who remember the OUT as it was when we saw it IN PERSON, AT THE THEATER, prefer the OUT more. Or at least certain parts of it more....like the original ROTJ ending...

The SE music is LAME. It doesn't even keep to the tempo the people and ewoks are dancing to.

But this is all a mute argument. I respect Ady's decisions and choices for HIS edit....this is just one I don't happen to agree with...

However, the improvements to picture quality and getting rid of the 04 SE slave backup singers will more than make up for it....

I am under 20 yes but I grew with the pre SE ending and liked it but then saw the SE ending for the first time and realized that the old ending was weaker IMO. I like the new music so much it makes feel like the end of a saga IMO.

The music for the SE is one of the few things I like about it.  No more of the damned Yub yub.  And I am in my mid 30's.

I am not trying to pick a fight or stirr up any trouble, but why would the tempo of the ending music matter.  It isn't source music.   Only the audience is listening.

At the moment I get several thread updates a day..

Are there any plans for either an RSS feed or a Mailshot for major updates.

e.g. teaser download/ release date etc.

I'm a web developer by trade (when I'm not bounty hunting) and am happy to help facilitate either of these.

Why would the tempo matter?? It's a celebration, not a funeral! And the Ewoks were actually PLAYING the music, so not only the audience but everyone in the forest was listening. To me, its as sacrilegious to change that music (and, for that matter, Lapti Nek), as it would have been to change the Cantina music!

Concerning the ending of ROTJ, I kind of like the new music. Yub Nub is one of the low points of the OT. However, any respect George gains for replacing Yub Nub is immediatly canceled out by replacing Lapti Nek with jedi Rocks.

Adywan has been great at giving us a little something old and a little something new. I hope he can find a way to work a small section of Yub Nub into the new celebration music. If he can pull that off, it will be the middle ground that everyone can be happy with.

As far as seeing other planets, I think Coruscant is the only planet we need to see. The others don't matter to the story. (Wow, the people of Bespin are free. Now I can sleep at night!)

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Personally I would use the new music, or a segue from Yub Nub into the new music, but keep it to Endor.

No, i definitely want to keep the original. I was thinking of selling A3 sized signed prints of it at one point but i'm not sure about all the copywrite issues.

About the ROTJ ending (even though this is the ESB:R thread. lol). I have to say that i always hated the Yub Nub ending and thought the SE ending was a small improvement . But the celebrations seemed to be a bit sudden. There was no Imperial activity shown at all. I think they would have made more sense if you had shots that showed Imperial Officers  & stormtroopers being lead off to detention centres or just rounded up like the Wookies were in EP3. This way the celebrations would have seemed more linear with what was happening on Endor. I want to keep the celebrations as they do seem to round off the complete saga nicely, but why is Tatooine there? Just another shot that didn't need to be added. If there as a way i could show the rounding up of the imperials & maybe add some shots that show that many battles had taken place simultaneously around the galaxy where the Empire has been defeated then it would be a better ending for me. As for the music neither the original or the SE music would not be returning in my edit.  I've always thought that the ending for the saga should have had a fitting orchestral score, so that is what i will be doing. I have a few years before i get to this stage so plenty of time to find the right piece of music. Plus i really need to concentrate on ESB:R so i don't really want to think about ROTJ:R for a while yet.

Did we find something Ady can't do?  You can't compose and orchestrate your own music?  What a shame. ;-)

I tease.  But seriously, maybe GoodMusician can whip something up for you sometime.  Assuming he lives up to his name...

P.S. I for one would buy a signed copy of the painting.

Yeah, it can a sticky wicket. But I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is tons of fan art out there for sale, and they're still in business. I'm sure one difference in this case is that your name is already out there with a fairly [in]famous edit. ;)

Dear Adywan

(Sorry, but I don’t speak English very well….because I am from Hungary)

First I want to say…I respect what you did about The EPIV revisited, and your version is THE ULTIMATE EDITON for me. I like your color corrections and most of all the new scenes. I like all what you did, because I think you have the ability to sense what is right (what work well) and what isn’t .

I know, all the people on this forum has an own idea about the movies. All the people has the own idea about the necessary things what must change. More spec. effect, more explosions, more creatures, more more and more things what came from the fans imaginations.

I think there is only one single rule, one single way what a man like you must follow. The color correction is a must thing, and what you did is simple exelent. But there is something else, something most important what a fan must follow…the essential of all the RIGHT changes is the ORIGINAL IDEA and the SCRIPTS.

Please let me to explain this what I mean.

The fans desire is one thing, more spec. effect, more creature more ect. As you already know how many different opinions is there. But there is a simple different if a single fan wants to see more space craft or more creature OR YOU read the early scripts, know the cut scenes and try to follow the original IDEA.

STRONG EXAMPLE:

All fan want a little or much bigger Hoth battle. It’s of course quiet natural because the prequels. But if you just simple joint some kind of extra T47 crafts into the battle…..that is NOT GOOD….BUT if you do that like it was in the early scripts or the cut scene….THAT IS RIGTH.

In the early drafts it is a real cut scene….General Veers died in the battle of Hoth because a T47 fly into his AT-AT and destroyed the machine’s head. If you try to restored that scene somehow, it will be absolutely hilarious. Not just a simple and meaningless extended spec. effect…but a faithful follow about the essential of the early drafts.  If you do that or something similar, please do not forget the first rule….faith to the resource is all above.

I know me English knowledge is not to good, but I really hope so, you can understand what I want to tell you.

I've been playing around with a different ending that I'll eventually post...maybe you'll be able to use some of the ideas.

As I previously said, there is an amazing cut scene in the Empire Strikes Back. And it would be excellent if Adywan try to restore the death of General Veers. I know, in the Expanded Universe Veers didn’t die in the movie, but it wont be bother anyone. So the fact is, we have the description of the full scene with pictures. And I think, Adywan is the man how has the ability to restore the scene and fit into the movie. It’s a great effect shot, seeing the AT-AT head exploded because one of the Rebel pilot fly into Veers cocpit.

So here is the description taken from the famous T-bone:

Originally, in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, General Veers wasn't supposed to make it off Hoth. One of the Rebel pilots, Hobbie (according to the fourth draft script) crashes into General Veers' cockpit window, taking down the huge walker.

Here is an excerpt from the EMPIRE 4th draft by Brackett and Kasdan:

INT WALKER NO. 1 - COCKPIT
CLOSE-UP VEERS inside Walker No. 1 cockpit. He speaks over the com-link as he studies various readouts.

VEERS
...yes, Lord Vader. I've reached the main
power generators and I'm destroying them now.
The shield will be down in moments.
You may start your landing...

PILOT
Look out!

Veers looks out the cockpit window.

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH
FULL SHOT of Hobbie's speeder, Rogue Four, as it races over camera right at the head of the oncoming walker.

INT WALKER NO. 1 - COCKPIT
OVER THE SHOULDER of Veers and his pilots as the speeder crashes into the front window.

PILOT
He's going to...

Impact, huge explosion.

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH
FULL SHOT of Walker No. 1 with head exploding and frying into a million pieces.

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH
FULL SHOT Walker No. 1. After a few moments the headless walker topples over on its side in a cloud of snow.

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH
3/4 REAR LOW ANGLE SHOT of the giant Walker No. 2. It stops in mid-step. A muffled explosion is heard, then the insides of the giant walker come blasting out every conceivable opening. It sits dead in its tracks, smoking like a locomotive.

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH
LOW ANGLE MEDIUM SHOT of Walker No. 1 as it advances at camera, going slightly right to left. The smoldering walker that Luke just blasted stands dead in its tracks in the background.

The black and white images included below are storyboards from EMPIRE. The first one clearly shows what happens in the scene but we still don't have any hard evidence telling us if it was actually filmed or not. Scott Weller, however, tells me that Julian Glover informed him in an April 2004 e-mail that the death of General Veers "wasn't scripted, let alone filmed which led to speculation that he would appear in the next film." The script was in constant flux so who knows if it was ever truly scripted.

I found the first image below on the web a long while back (I think it was www.starwarscutscenes.com) and my friend and fellow cut scenes historian, Ryan Silva, tells me it's from the original Fan Club Newsletter called "Bantha Tracks" - Issue #14, page 2, which I have lying around in storage somewhere. Man, I miss that newsletter, but Starwars.com is posting them all again, so head over there if you're not familiar with the old fan club.

The second image below was found on the great Propstore of London website, hence the watermarks. It has some different scene numbers and stuff so there's not much to link it to this particular scene, however it's a pretty big coincidence if you ask me. This looks like it takes place right after the first storyboard. It even names Hobbie as the rebel pilot.

On June 20, 2001, Starwars.com added the following to the facts we know for sure:

In the original script of The Empire Strikes Back, Veers perished when his walker was rammed by a snowspeeder. The scene never made it into the final film, and as such, Veers' life was spared. He appeared in early draft scripts of Return of the Jedi, though his character does not return in that film. Producer Robert Watts, who had a cameo appearance as an AT-ST pilot in Jedi, has once said that his character was actually General Veers, but it seems doubtful that Veers would have such a demotion to a simple pilot.

I'm also including a picture of Hobbie from the Starwars.com for good measure. This shot wasn't in the film and he's relevant to this scene, so why not.

storyboard1

storyboard2

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing that's been brought up in discussion with fellow fans is the AT-AT whose head explodes in the film. This is the one that Luke allegedly takes down by tossing a grenade into its belly. Why the head would explode from a grenade in the gut is beyond me. Was that shot of the walker's head exploding originally intended to be Veers' walker or did they just take the "exploding head" idea from the early draft and incorporate it into the film? I have not seen any other stills from this scene so I can't be sure if it was actually filmed or not. The scene is in the novelization, however.

While we're talking about the AT-AT Luke destroyed, we might as well note that in the 4th draft, the walker in question wasn't supposed to topple over as it does in the film, but instead just stand there. Check out this 4th draft excerpt:

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH
3/4 REAR LOW ANGLE SHOT of the giant Walker No. 2. It stops in mid-step. A muffled explosion is heard, then the insides of the giant walker come blasting out every conceivable opening. It sits dead in its tracks, smoking like a locomotive.

EXT BATTLEFIELD - HOTH

I like the idea of the walker head exploding by a rebel pilot crashing into it, and I also like the idea of it remaining standing instead of falling over.  I'm not sure I'm sold on the idea of that being Veers - so now just some random walker blows up the generator?  It could work, but like I said, I, personally, am not 100% sold.

Meanwhile..While Adywan ponders the death of veers and the explosion of an ATATs head. else where in the galaxy Darth Lucas prepares his own diabolical plans to insert an ATAT stepping on a giant steamy pile of Wampa poo-doo. Lucas "prepare my blue ray format for my arrival"

Or a new establishing shot of the walkers in CG. Dozens of walkers walking towards the camera, rotating slightly.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

I agree, that would mirror ROTS, as during ROTS the emperor had the clones searching for the jedi, and killing the wookies. I think after 20 something years the slaves of the emperor would be pretty pissed off. So it would be cool to see the wookies rounding up the stormtroopers and maybe even pulling the arms out of a few sockets. maybe you could show a few planets with burning imperial outposts also. The big thing that bothers me about ROTJ is the eworks, and how they defeat the emperors elite stormtroopers by throwing rocks and using booby traps.

maybe you could show a few planets with burning imperial outposts also.

Now that's a good idea. By the sheer number of people celebrating the Emperors death you kind of have to wonder why they sat back and did nothing to end his reign.

I'd always assumed the general public were well duped by his charm and propaganda. But if so why sould the celebrate his death.
