Maybe an extra month or two everytime someone asks “is it done yet” 😉

"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)

I believe they cloned Rex Harrison expressly for this purpose.

You should never, ever ask questions like that. It makes you like an impatient little kid. It will come out when it comes out.

Don’t be an ass. He’s not having an entitled fit, he’s merely asking for an update.

If that was one post in a vacuum, you might be right. But it’s not, and you’re not.

It seems of late, a LOT of people have become cranky. This is a COMMUNITY, and in a community, it’s our responsibility to be courteous and open with one another. Not everyone is as up-to-date as the rest of us. There are 1308 pages in this thread with 25 posts per page. That’s nearly 33,000 posts. Would it not be easier for you to answer the questions of a newcomer than to be crabby and demand that they read 33,000 posts? We were all brought here by a passion we share. If you don’t want to answers someone’s questions, don’t post a response to them.

A lot of patronisation and rude condemnation has been going around in these forums in the last few years - both from critics of adywan and his ardent defenders. I encourage everyone to try to remember the basic principles in handling people:

Don’t criticize, condemn, or complain. Human nature does not like to admit fault. When people are criticized or humiliated, they rarely respond well and will often become defensive and resent their critic. To handle people well, we must never criticize, condemn or complain because it will never result in the behavior we desire.

Give honest and sincere appreciation. Appreciation is one of the most powerful tools in the world. People will rarely work at their maximum potential under criticism, but honest appreciation brings out their best. Appreciation, though, is not simple flattery, it must be sincere, meaningful and with love.

Arouse in the other person an eager want. To get what we want from another person, we must forget our own perspective and begin to see things from the point of view of others. When we can combine our desires with their wants, they become eager to work with us and we can mutually achieve our objectives.

As a community, we have to be patient with each other. I like you, Frink. I know you’re not actually a jerk, but you don’t need to act like one. We have a common interest and a common goal. Don’t make an enemy of me, my friend.

He’s not a newcomer, and he’s got a modus operandi.

sigh I’m speaking in relative terms. He joined in 2014 - this thread is from 2008. He hasn’t been around for the entire ride. In any case, if you’re going to take anything from what I wrote, don’t focus on the “be welcoming to noobs” part, but rather the “be patient and courteous” part.

I appreciate your pleas for courtesy, but you should know me better than that. And anyway, when we’re polite to this guy, all it does is encourage him to keep asking the same things over and over…like “is it done yet?”

I love my daughters but there’s only so many times I can take “Are we there yet?” before I threaten to turn the car around.

I’ll have to agree with Frink here. I’m usually the one preaching patience with people, but after its become clear that this guy is either trolling, or completely incapable of understanding something without asking a question over and over again, or making an unecessary post about it, patience starts to run out.

I feel you guys. It’d be nice if the forums had an “ignore” or “block” function - it could definitely help weed out annoying posters. I didn’t mean to be patronising or condescending to you guys, it’s just that it pains me to see posters I respect snap (although I understand we all do it).

I think what it comes down to is a balance of patience and “upfront-ness”. When someone comes in and starts asking those questions, rather than tell them to screw off and find the answer on their own, explain to them how it is commonly looked down upon to do so, and that we generally expect/hope that patrons will at least attempt to look for the answer rather than expect someone to be at the standby waiting to provide every one of their (often silly, and somewhat easily found) answers.

Then… If they still can’t find an answer, they need just say “hey I looked but could not find an answer, would anyone be willing to answer me this…”

A simple, yet decently courteous, response may change them into a better and more aware community member, rather than just pushing them to hate some of us and continue abusing the boards.

EDIT: Oh, and if they simply do not listen to our “nice” responses, then we can berate the crap outta them 😉

This is very true. He used to ask for constant updates on Twitter, before I convinced him to ask questions on this thread. Which he continues to do.

I just assume everyone is 12. That’s how I maintain patience and minimal expectations.

Curious, has Ady fixed the problem with the window Luke gets sucked out of? The window suddenly changed the size of it’s hole in between shots without a reason. Sorry for the difference in quality, these were the only pics I could find on short notice.
