I actually really found the Nazi-like feel of the first order is awesome. And hux’s speech was a highlight. I find it not being original enough story-wise being the main problem.

I don’t think anyone denies the Nazi influence, just I think most of us think it fits and isn’t a negative thing. The nazi influence, as stated by Ady, has been there since 77.
i’m curious ady what you thought of the force awakens? i hated it.and episode 4 is my favorite movie of all time.i disagree with others though,i don’t believe the force awakens was trying to copy episode 4.the problems i had with it were the guy giving the speech in a german accent and trying to sound like hitler and the stormtroopers doing the nazi salute.and the trench run had no drama whatsoever.and it was so easy to destroy it too didnt need more than 1 shot.also a stormtrooper carrying a staff that can deflect lightsabers when no jedi have been around for many decades.and rey being able to take down kylo when he was trained by luke.if luke is planning on training her in the next movie i dont see the point since she can already defeat kylo.
Well talk of TFA doesn’t really belong in here as there are many threads that cover that film. But i will say that i loved it. So i will reply to this comment…
As a Brit i can say that the speech was NOT delivered in a German accent. That was definitely a British accent he was doing. There have always been parallels between the Empire and the Nazis since day one, so i see no problem with any of that. And it wasn’t exactly a Nazi salute either. The trench run was a fleeting moment in the action sequence. The whole Starkiller attack was the sub plot. It wasn’t meant to be tense or dramatic as the main plot was what was supposed to have the drama: Kylo vs Rey/ Finn. And it took a lot more than just one shot to destroy it.
And why wouldn’t a Stormtrooper have a weapon that can deflect a lightsaber? Luke had been training a whole new generation of Jedi and the First Order knew this, so why wouldn’t they have something that can level the playing field ( we did see such a tool in the prequels) .
When people moan about how Rey was able to take down Kylo, then i wonder if they properly watched the film. There are clues throughout and it’s all there on screen. For one , Kylo had just killed his own Father. You can see his focus wasn’t there after he did that. Then Chewie shot him with his crossbow. The same weapon that was able to blast stormtroopers and flip them through the air. He took a direct hit. Then, when he confronts them, you see how wounded he is. Against Finn, he is toying with him. But as soon as Finn manages to get a strike to injure Kylo, he quickly dispenses with Finn. Then we have Rey. Kylo has been ordered by Snoke to bring her to him. So he is hardly going to try to kill her. She isn’t exactly doing very well at first either. He pretty much has the upper hand. He has her at the edge of the newly formed cliff and then he mentions about the force. And this is when she becomes powerful against him. But wait, look back in the film and remember the speech that Maz gave her. She told her " close your eyes. Feel it. The light. It’s always been there. It will guide you". And guess what? She remembers this. closes her eyes and lets the force in to guide her. Then she is powerful enough to defeat Kylo. Even though he had had training, he was pretty injured. We also know nothing of Reys origins yet.
Being perfectly honest, I previously thought Rey was a Mary Sue because the arguments of the weakened and emotionally distressed Kylo didn’t amuse me because that is explaining how she could beat him within the constraints of the screenplay already written. Ady here referencing the Maz conservation totally seals the deal and moved the force awakens a whole grade up in my books. My problem with the ending was that you could have written it better from the start. People are arguing how she beat him within the standing circumstances. But Adys explanation argues for why the plot/screenplay from a story point of view makes perfect sense. The fact that Rey finally awakens in the force makes the title all that more impactful, enhances the plot and explains how she defeated him. Great explanation!

To be frankly clear here, I disagree that it was lazy copying, but I feel it was an enhancing factor that made me fear the first order more.
