First of all, incredible work as always, Ady! Loved seeing the inclusion of the Nobby Spider, the new background (it is seamless!), and all the other various fixes that everyone has noticed :D
Now for the critiquing :) So I've been thinking about this a lot before posting and I do agree with those who feel that this establishing shot with the spider goes on for just a bit longer than necessary (especially considering not much is going on in the shot - not even camera movement) and, no, it's not because it's paired with the original, I looked at it alone for how it is ;) I also agree with those that the spider does draw more attention on itself at the beginning of the shot than it should.
So here's my ideas for what I believe will improve the shot:
Trim the overall establishing shot so it's 6-7secs, so this will make it just a bit longer than the original but also shorter than how it is currently (basically, ending the shot just soon after that flying creature on the left gets off screen). I believe this should be plenty enough to "take it all in" - every second, in this case, does make a difference ;)
Next it would be better to reverse the animations of the spider, so this way, it only makes subtle movements at the beginning of the shot (this way, our eyes won't be as distracted by it at first). So now, our initial focus will more likely and naturally be guided to the X-Wing towards the center as it should be. Then after our eyes had just a moment to process it, our eyes will begin to wander and see the rest of the environment, and then the flying creatures enter the shot... and oh wait what's that?.. there's a Nobby Spider also starting to walk from the coast!*... then cut to next shot.
*perhaps adding some ripples/movement of the water when its legs move in it would be a nice final touch?
I hope this was helpful if you are considering it. Thank you for giving us a glimpse at the latest clip, Ady!
Count me as someone who thinks the new shot is great as-is.
Can't wait for this thing to be released.
I like it as is too.
I would consider adding creatures to the training sequences on Dagobah but not if it delayed the release much.
I have a slipped disc, due to the weight of my dentures and hair dye. I want see these edits before I become all wrinkle :-D
I personally don't find any loss in pacing from a matter of a couple of seconds. It really seems like splitting hairs to me. And while the spider may distract one from the action...wait, there was action? I saw the X-wing...I saw it was in the water...and I saw a surrounding that was dangerous and mysterious, including a frickin' cool spider thingy. In fact, I think there is nothing to distract from. Instead, it encourages the viewer to take the whole picture in! Perfect job, Ady!

Luke Vs the Face huggers :)
Yes, ol' 'Nobby's motion looked as satisfyingly icky as the Alien queen's egg-laying. Love it.
To be honest, I'm not 100% sure if the artwork shows it laying lots of eggs, or actually 'slurping' on some weird, 'spore'-like Dagobah plant-life... :)
There is one last thing I noticed and I think it's another Lowrey Digital Brightness Spike. So it is not a fault so much as it's been way over brightened than the Gout originally was. I darkened up the whole frame here to see what would happen.
Now if you look at the Gout the cockpit is much Darker, and I think that works with the environment. Although it might be a bit too dark?
So It's not really a big deal but I think because the blue has been removed it now looks more super imposed than it did previously with Lowry's new brightness and contrast.
The Gout is Red shifted Heavily but I do feel that the Darker look works better and almost also makes sense flying through a thick fog bank it would gradually get darker.
So It's a very easy thing to change it back to how it felt originally if indeed this is one of those instances where Lowry has Ramped up the Brightness way beyond what it was ever meant to be. Which I believe they have here.
I'm a huge fan of the way the spider was handled as well. I don't see it as a distraction, as you see it after we know that Luke has crashed. If it was drawing attention to itself when we need to be paying attention to something else, I would see it as an issue. It adds to the environment, and makes Dagobah feel even more alien. If you could that same magic to boring old Endor....
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Awesome work on the new video. It's gonna be great.
Are we allowed to change our mind? :P Maybe I just had to watch that establishing shot several more times, but yeah, it is just fine as is.
This reminds me of the asteroid canyon chase scene, getting that to look and feel just right too :)
Everyone's eyes are drawn to it because we're looking for the changes.

Yes. I think we're just distracted because we've seen the original version a million times and it's ingrained in our consciousness.
The new shot looks great as is!
Exactly we're all so used to seeing it as is without the spider.
Speaking of which, people freak out when they see a little spider in their house...poor Yoda had to live with 150 pound mutant spiders right outside his doorstep.
Ady, Excellent as always. Love the spider thing and especially love that you gave Vader his neck back, that was a shot that always bugged me even back in the day.
Dogs bollox.
Ady the new clip looks fantastic! The extended scene works very well imo. I don't feel it drags at all. This surely has been discussed before but I can't recall, is the spider CGI or stop motion? Looks gorgeous!
Vader has a neck! THANK YOU for fixing that!!!!
The only thing I missed was the smoke coming out of the x-wing engines and perhaps as someone else pointed out, a bit of water ripple would add to the whole scene. If the smoke is gone for good, I'd be interested in reading how you came to that conclusion, if this is an older version and the smoke has been added since, please disregard.
Awesome, awesome work Ady!
The smoke coming from the engines is still there. The original had this huge plume of smoke which suddenly shrunk in the next shot. So the amount of smoke coming from the engines now matches the following shot
Of course it is! Damnit now it's so clear I can't believe I missed it after a couple views. Thanks for clearing that up, Ady.
It's the internet, so many people are gonna complain no matter what you put out there. Sometimes good points, others splitting hairs but you should feel incredibly proud of what you're achieving here, man! I'm sure you are.

But what about the mandibles? :p
The manbiles will be fixed.

Is anyone having problems with the Mega file downloading to 100%? I had it stick at 99%, then reloaded it after pausing and restarting would not complete... now it hits 90%, drops to 85%, gets to 95% and drops back down to 85%. I've never seen a downloadable file actually delete partial information like this and get stuck in a perpetual loop...
EDIT: never mind... I used Jdownloader and while it downloaded a lot slower it completed a-okay.

I also had issues, it downloaded fully, but playback (vlc) was very choppy, like a slideshow. (also use firefox) any ideas?

make sure you don't have any video filters on. 1080p videos will lag when you apply anything.
