The spherical torture droid's needle.
The spherical torture droid's needle.
Yes, it does actually contradict another element: tell me this honestly, if someone were knocked backwards, which noise would they be more likely to make, "ompf" or "ahh". Contrarily, if that same person suddenly got a face full of steam, which would they be more likely to make, "ompf" or "ahh".
Why don't you go stumble off a ledge and let us know?
oh very well
several hours and a number of broken bones later...
well, at least i proved my theory...

You mean 4 minutes and a slight bruise, right?

Didn't they alter the sounds he makes in the special edition? I can't access the theatrical cuts right now but i'm pretty sure they were different ( i think they removed the one where he fell off the platform and just repeated the other for the SE's). And as the audio will be based upon the theatrical versions anyway, i don't see a problem.
The mono mix was the only one before the SE to have the "OOOO!".

In all seriousness, sonofjones, I'd personally react with "argh" for both pain and shock (which is what these two instances appear to be combinations of, though it's possible there's no pain involved in either). Or alternatively I don't react at all because i'm just that badass.
Everyone is different.
Some people might go "Shiiiiiiiiiiit" as they fall and "owwww" as they're hit in the face with steam.
I still don't see it's as obvious as you apparently think it is which noise should accompany which action. Both seem appropriate and as far as i'm concerned could be interchangeable.
You could go the creepy Michael Myers route where he gives zero audible reaction.

This.

Just replace it with "Noooooooooo!", GL has proved time and again that a scene can always be improved by adding a "Noooooooooo!".
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

The man makes one detail-oriented suggestion and people leap on him. Well, Adywan's edits do in fact revolve around detail much of the time.
It's hardly "one" suggestion. I'm sorry, it must be 40 or 50 suggestions from Ronster in the last few months, and all but a couple are totally ridiculous.

No, clearly you're not sorry. if you were you'd remember this forum is for anyone to suggest, not just a closed circle. If you disagree with a suggestion, fine, but that dosen't grant anyone the right to adapt a holier than thou art or superior attitude because of that.
This is really funny :)
Wait a minute did'nt the stormtroopers give Chewie a Banana to calm him down?
As for the Vader pain sound effects well I don't think that Oompf is JEJ or atleast sounds nothing like him let alone without any Vader voicebox sound on it. That is the point it's equivalent to Luke letting out screams of Carrie fisher or someone else voice.
As for the arrgh that is a sound I could imagine JEJ making so It does not bother me really I am Happy that is being put in to be honest.
I am pretty sure though that the steam sound from the pipe is the same as the carbon freeze chamber. so this is a potential sighting of an edit if one were desired.

RE: Below
Look this forum is for fleshing things out, being fair on myself here yes I look over things in the film and make suggestions and look for continuous ways to try to improve things. I don't get upset when I get shot down neither so what is the big deal. I also prefer to try to keep the thread on topic as sometimes It really flies off in stupid ways. I am also excited about seeing the project finished. I also posted a audio change list with other peoples suggestions on it. I am trying to encourage good things not bad things here so don't bash me for that.

The 'Wilhelm' for the win! (kidding)
There needs to be a moratorium on the Wilhelm scream (not kidding).
That is one horse that has been soundly beaten to death.

...or eaten by an alligator
The fact that this is still being discussed hurts my heart
I know right? I love the Wilhelm.
I re-watched the lightsaber duel because I was intrigued by the suggestion that Vader's vocal reactions were a technical error - that the "aagh" was originally meant for the steam and the "oomph" was meant for the fall, but they were accidentally switched in editing. The "oomph" sounds fine to me and I don't think it needs to be changed. Even if he tried to scream in pain or surprise, it would be muffled because of all the steam blowing into his face.
IMHO, the "aagh" during his fall off the platform just sounds like bad acting. This is probably why the Blu-Ray, Dark Jedi's V3, and Ady's Theatrical Reconstruction all use the same SFX for both the steam and the fall. They only sound different because the steam hose noise muffles the high frequencies in the first instance. I haven't fired up my "Faces" VHS tapes, but I'm guessing this is probably where the "aagh" was first replaced.
Since I'm already throwing gasoline on this fire, I'm also going to suggest that it's not necessary to remove the sight of Luke's head after he leaves the platform off of which Vader "falls". He jumps down to a lower level then stands up. Some have said before that he "bounces" because there is a trampoline there, but after watching multiple versions of the film, he clearly just stands after jumping down to a level about 5 feet below the platform.
Piranhas, attack!
Shoal of priranahs incoming! Just kidding
Nobody said it was a technical error it was a "Make more sense" suggestion of being sprayed in the face by sonofjones.
From what I can gather people in general have a lot of mixed feelings about this particular audio change from SE and Theatrical but none of it is a major problem. It's all a matter of preference or what they think sounds best so it's just one of those conundrums.
Myself included people have varying points of view yet there is not a right or a wrong just different points of view on it.

Sorry - was reading too deeply into that one. There is no evidence that it IS a technical error. sonofjones' post just made me think about how it would sound if they were switched, which prompted me to go back and view the scene again.
