A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

If this thing doesn't get finished, I will cry.
ok i guess i still don't understand the shields as an adult
can the AT-AT's walk throught them or does the shield just not reach all the way to the ground?

Hate to bring up the prequels but they're like the Gungan shields in TPM. They're designed to stop fast moving projectiles while slower objects can still pass through.

Personally, I think its more of a bombardment shield, so it only points up.

As 005 said, I always thought of the shields on Hoth as being "above the ground," intended to stop orbital bombardment, with nothing making contact at ground level. This is why the walkers land farther away and simply approach by ground. Unlike the spherical Gugan shields, which protect from all sides, the OT's shields seem to have the capability of being isolated to face a single direction (as seen when the rebel pilots switch their defelctors on "double front" during the Death Star attack in ANH).

I was always so entertained by The Empire Strikes Back that I accepted alot of this kind of stuff without needing to rationalize it ;)
Hmm... imagine what would have happened if the Empire sent down a fleet of TIE fighters and bombers before sending in the AT-ATs.
That would have been ugly...

It would have been like the Death Star run only on an ice planet with the sides swapped.
It would have been cheaper but visually less interesting.

Shields and walkers aside, I have a legitimate question about the production on this project.
Ady mentioned that he's making (or has possibly already made?) an actual model of Cloud City to replace the matte painting version in the movie.
I'm wondering if this is just going to be some photograph of a model - or is it going to have some cool motion to it? Like a very very slight rotation - to give it more of a floaty look.
So far I think any cloud city replacement he has put in has been done using CG....he'd have liked to build a rather large model but it was cost prohibitive to do so. I'd have to check my workprint to see if it rotates at all.
I decided that building a model to replace the mattes was going to cost too much and take too much time. I haven't replaced any of the cloud city shot with CG though. I have used the original mattes combined with real world surrounding elements
my mistake....I thought there was at least one shot where you replaced it completely
So Ady you didn't build it full size?
I thought that's where you might have moved to when you had finished it.
How funny is it that even though we learned that a new trilogy is being made... Hamill, Fisher & Ford may be in it... and theres gonna be more movies beyond that the thing we all are looking most forward to is EMPIRE STRIKES BACK REVISITED! LOL
I was greatly looking forward to it and much more so than the HD home video and 3D releases but to be honest I'm not quite as pumped for this thing at them moment.
I've always been more interested in ROTJ:R and the PT:R and I know Ady has had loads of hurdles to overcome but it has taken too long to maintain the same degree of enthusiasm that I had a couple of years ago.
Obviously I still wish him well and hope he overcomes all these obstacles and obviously I'm still keen to see ESB:R in it's complete form (I will even purchase the blu-rays just so I can legitimately watch it).
I really want to see the Star Wars films that don't work fixed rather than wait for a very long time to see improved SEs of the two that already worked. I would also contribute whatever I can to the later projects after Ady has ESB:R under his belt.
As for the new trilogy I've already been burned by the PT and Prometheus so I'm more nervous about it than excited but open to the possibility of being pleasantly surprised.

I feel the same way. I'm still interested in seeing the result, but have moved on a bit since ANH:R.
ESB:R will get finished. It's just that right know he is not able to work on it. I expect a spring release of next year.

Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinions of course, but personally, I've never been more excited about seeing ESBR! The magnificent work done in bringing us ANHR leaves me giddy with anticipation at what ESBR will show us. Yes of course Empire is a brilliant film to start with, but Ady has already shown how he can not just improve, but significantly improve an already brilliant film with ANH, so his efforts in delivering ESBR will be forever appreciated by true Star Wars fans everywhere. Is it taking a bit longer than we hoped? Yes. But will it be worth the wait? You better believe it!

^This indeed!
ESB:R is gonna amaze with the amount of fixes and improvements throughout. Sure, it's taking time to complete due to the ambition involved and life's ups-and-downs along the way, but the final results are gonna blow fans of the movie away eventually. Another few weeks/months are irrelevant in the scheme of things compared to what's being achieved on this thing.
If you read my post I didn't say otherwise I was responding to Neznarf's post saying we were all more excited by ESB:R than the Disney news.
I was saying a few years ago that would have been true for me but not so much now and I think Ady would consider that a reasonable and honest response even when the obstacles are taken into account, which I have.
