Moustapha Akkad killed...

Author
Time
I brought this up in the Halloween preservation thread, but for those of you that don't read the preservation board, Halloween Producer Moustapha Akkad was killed in the Jordan hotel bombings, along with his daughter.

He was resonsible for bankrolling John Carpenter's original Halloween, and kept the franchise alive all these years.

If you've ever watched a documentary on the films, you will know who he is.

Sucks, doesn't it?

USA Today says that he was just injured, and that his daughter was killed.

Among the dead was the daughter of Syrian film director Moustafa Akkad, who was also injured in the deadly blast at the Hyatt.

USA Today article.

But then again, they call him a film director even though he's really a producer... So I don't know.

Either way, it's still sad.

-edit-
Looks like he really is dead. He died from his injuries.

I just read this myself. What happened in Jordan is heinous, and Moustapha Akkad is a name that more will recognize than one may think. After all, the Halloween films are part of our culture in the states, transcending the horror film subculture.

Couldn't agree with you more, ADM. Despite my love for the so-called slasher genre, there was always something, I don't know, classier about Halloween. It was inventive and rich in ideas and metaphors.

Well, I don't like the Halloween movies and the other slasher films. But his loss is still tragic.

R.I.P.

Neither do I, but RIP.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I saw Halloween when I was way too young on broadcast TV. Scared the pants off me then, and it still does now. Not being a slasher fan, it's the only film in the genre I own, and yet I can rarely bring myself to watch it because I'm creeped out for days afterward. But it's more Psycho than Nightmare on Elm Street, leaving the vast majority of the fear to your imagination.

Edit: But this isn't a thread about Halloween, it's a thread about the man who brought us the entire series, and his tragic loss. I have to respect the man.

Slasher fics bore me, but still, anyone killed by those terrorist arsewipes is a tragedy in and of itself. Rest in Peace, Akkad, and everyone else killed.

His death, like any other, is tragic, especially given the circumstances, but is that this supposed to be a good thing?:
