Well the Q & A is about to start. I'm going to keep it open for as long as possible so if you can't jump in at the start then you can still catch it. i will hopefully be able to have a transcript of the session for download sometime in the week

Would also like to add my appreciation and thanks to Ady for fielding the QA session last night. Apologies to those who saw me suddenly disappear and not return...The Dark Side (otherwise known as my wireless connection) saw fit to cut my time short by glitching at the wrong moment! If there is one in the future either with Ady or another of the master editors here on the forum, I'd be interested in joining in!

PS sorry if a similar post comes up...for some reason I posted once but it didn't appear, so this is version 2 of my original post! haha

I'm sorry I had to miss it! I definitely wanted to be there, and will hopefully be able to make it for the next one (if there is another one -- if not before the release, perhaps after?). I'll certainly be looking forward to the transcript!

Well let me start by thanking everyone that joined in with the Q & A on saturday night. I had great fun doing it so i'm glad you enjoyed it. I think i will do another one once the edit is finished so look out for that one.

An edited transcript of the Q & A is now available for those who want it.

Thanks for the transcript, Ady, that was a fun read. I was already excited about the project, this just ratcheted it up a few notches.

But please don't say you're going to leave us all hanging re: the new clip you mentioned at the end of the Q&A... we wanna see it too!!!

Cool. I wish I had a split-screen for comparison, though. It's hard to tell what's different when everything just looks right! If you had time, I think it would make a great bonus for the DVD to pick a few scenes and run them split-screen, Wookiee Groomer style, to help illustrate some of the more subtle differences.

LFL SE Deathstar battle looks like a flat 2-D world and looks FAKE and out dated.

Adywan's SE Deathstar battle is done with scenes that are wide open, in rich 3-D, modern looking and alive.

Can you imagine if George got his hands on this edit (not that it's unlikely he wouldn't in some form or other)? The amount of work that's been done only enhances and improves the special editions no end. The colours are now vibrant, the effects look less clunky and the whole thing seems less 1970s and more 21st century. That brief clip of the Death Star battle only goes to show how limited George was in his attempt to 'improve' things. Rather than having two stabs at integrating Jabba the Hutt (and making Greedo's scene seem superfluous), I'd rather GL did what Ady has done...this will be THE fan edit to have bar none - not even if GL actually felt shamed enough to make a proper go of his 'definitive' editions!

Ady, my hat comes off for you and I look forward to your work on the remaining movies in the original trilogy...

The clip is amazing. I was so excited. I played it over 10 times already. Each time, I was pointing out the changes that I saw with the DS battle. It is a great piece of video. The explosions going on in the backgroud make it more realistic. I kept shouting at my wife telling her...
"That wasn't there...Ady created that"...

Agreed. The new sequence is looking great!

What I'd like to see at some point in the future is a split screen comparison of the 2004 DVD and this edit. Not a picture-by-picture comparison, but a legitimate 50% split screen comparison (either horizontally or vertically separated). With a lot of the repositioning of shots, some parts may not line up too well, but this would give the average viewer insight into how much work has been done on this project.

Man, the release can't come soon enough!

That clip was out of control. The new additions are absolutely unreal, they are incredibly seamless and look they they should have been there from the start. The formation of ties that flies past in the background right after Luke says "Ill be right there" was awesome and the explosions are perfect, they look brilliant. I dont even know what to say this is unbelievable ady, I know Im getting way ahead of myself but I cant not wait for ESB cause I look at when youve done with ANH and I can only think I will be floored by your improvements to my favorite movie.

I really enjoyed reading the transcript, I wish I had the time join in now. Many of the questions were very well thought through, and very well answered.

And the clip well what can I say, it was amazing, it does make you wonder why the Lucas Team hadn't thought of this with the SE of ANH after so much effort with OT ROTJ Death Star battle and come to think of it the Naboo Space battle from TPM, but I guess it was just done to cash in quick with the new trilogy, but I won't get into that.

Adywan has done and is doing an amazing job with ANH, from the clips I've seen so far, when finished it will defiantly blow some dust around the LucasFilm corridors, if they get to see it. With the rumpus caused by the Phantom Edit when that was released I suspect this edit will surpass the praise that got.

You can put me on the PIF chain when this is finished it will be an honour to spread the word

Though I have had little experience with DL, each time I have tried DL, the recording fails, perhaps its the disks, perhaps it my DVDR but I've tried Sony and Plextor with the same result the burning fails, what I would like to know is what software you lot use for DL I've tried (forgive me) Nero and Elaborate Bytes CloneDVD2, with no result. Just like to know what I'm doing wrong, I'm not going to hijack this thread with my DL problems so if anyone know of a thread please point me to it.

Just had the opportunity to check out the transcript and the new clip. Looks like it was a quality session. Sorry I missed it, but hopefully I can catch the next one.

The new clip is great. I love seeing Yavin in the background, but my favorite part was that little formation of TIE fighters zipping around in the background. It has a great continuity with Vader's line about several fighters breaking off from the main group.

There was one little thing that stuck out to me in the clip. In the shot below, the far off ships seem to recede too slowly, considering that they're going in the opposite direction. But maybe it's just me.

Not to disagree to disagree but I looked at that and to me it looks and feels fine.....besides I thought Adywan said he was done tweaking the various video fx shots and was in post production at this point anyway so......

and BTW I hate waiting ......
