STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 369

I did it for the film Zabriskie Point, which is in mono.  I can post links to samples of the original and the redone parts if you want

I intend to do a fan edit of Blade Runner that restores the narration, even all the unused narration from the deleted scenes montage.  I plan to use a similar technique, as well as center channel isolation, to get the narrative off the full soundtrack.

Interesting points being brought up.  I don't wish to dispute them all; some I agree with, some I do not.  However, it is important to note that his breathing and speaking are not tied together.  Most of his breathing is machine assisted, possibly something like a tracheotomy.  Hearing Sebastian Shaw's lines at the end of ROTJ reveal that he clearly has much difficulty getting sufficient air through his own vocal chords to do much, and his mask takes what little he can produce and turns it into his James Earl Jones voice.  This distinction between his speaking and breathing is not just apparent in this film, but in all others featuring Vader in-suit, as well as in the novelization of Episode III.  This is why Luke was so concerned about taking off his mask: his mask is not merely an air filter, but rather an actual pump.

it was once Giablomi, on WinMX, but I dropped the dirty joke years ago.  I was actually going to join this forum as DarthIchor, a name I also use, but most of the internet knows me as }{eywood these days, so I kept it

I must agree with the time frame of Luke and Han jumping into the garbage compactor. Sure there's a much longer pause between Luke jumping in the hole and Han falling in the compactor but it would take Luke just as long to fall.

I'm not gonna say much else, there are some points I kind of agree with and there are some with which I strongly disagree but nothing that hasn't been said before.

Hrere's a link to two of the scenes from Zabriskie Point that I redid the audio for.  Its just the audio, no video on the samples.

here it is.  silly me.

I'm curious to see what you all think of the scenes as they sound now.  For the one (chapters 10-11) there was no music for the first half, then Tennessee Waltz.  I removed TW and put Alan's Blues in there throughout the entire scene, including coming over the phone at the beginning.

Remember, this film was in mono and fairly lo-fi, with a lot of noise.  We tried to remove a lot of the noise when doing this.  (this project was done almost entirely by me but a team of 3 of us worked on the  most difficult parts)

I'd show you the videos, but we haven't released the DVD yet.  I have never authored a DVD before and I need filmclip menus and all that.  It'll take me  some time to learn the software.  I also have to finish speed correcting the audio, as it is now at PAL speed in the chapters I haven't done yet.  For a movie with a lot of music this is unacceptable.

The TIE vs Death Star explosions - I'm OK with them as is because of the relative size differences.

A standard TIE fighter is listed as being about 6m (I'm guessing that's height).  Now, relative to that, I'm going to guess that the explosion it created was somewhere on the order of 15m tall.

The Death Star is listed as being about 120km - literally 20,000 times larger than a TIE.  That means the explosion it generates is somewhere on the order of 150km.

If you put the TIE explosion next to the DS explosion "in scale" the TIE looks like a tiny flash, no bigger than a flickering star, by comparison.

Relative to the sizes of the craft generating them, the explosion sizes are accurate.  What's probably throwing you off is the visual aspect - the amount of screen space the explosions takes up, the perceived distance between viewer and explosions and the visual styles of the different explosion effects.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

well the style thing is the problem.  The TIE blows up, then keeps on blowing up like it was going through a big chain reaction, while the DS just goes up all in one bang.  As I know it, TIEs are totally stripped ships with the least of whatever is necessary to make them work. They don't even have air in them!  So what is causing this long continuing explosion?

And I hear "Carrie!" always have and always will

And you're wrong, always have been and always will be.

As for the rest... interesting, but irrelevant. If Adywan even wanted to change all of that (which I'm sure he doesn't), the film would no longer be the Star Wars we all know. As someone else said, if you can't accept things being the way they currently are, then perhaps this edit (and even Star Wars itself) isn't your cup of tea, and should embark on making an edit of your own, to your own specifications.

When does she use the accent and when doesn't she? (Note: Brits on the forum have been known to insist it's not British, but posh-American or something like that)
Whatever it is, its only in the scene with her talking with Tarkin.

maybe it is on purpose, but more as her mocking him

A) Carrie's voice is an artistic decision not an accent creep.

B) It doesn't sound British if you are British.

Carrie Fisher herself said she spoke inconsistently during the film and it was entirely down to her having spent a lot of time in London (where she trained as an actress). There is no in-universe reason for her speaking this way, it's just her performance being, shall we say, variable. It isn't an English accent as such, it's an American slipping into received pronunciation for a few seconds, that's all. As for not sounding British if you are British, well, I'm British and the way she begins her line "Governor Tarkin" sounds a hell of a lot more like RP than any American accent.

I always figured that the RP accent was kind of an aristocratic air she put on, and she slipped back into her regular accent when kicking-butt.

I for one do a much more mid-Atlantic accent at work, and sound very Southern Californian much of the time. It's so automatic I don't even know I do it except when my wife calls me at works and makes fun of it.
