Did someone just seriously suggest that I do a commentary? I'm flattered, but I don't know any more than anyone else, I just compiled it all together.

Peter Bogdovich's commentary's on some of Orson Welles's films (becasue Welles is apparently too lazy to record his own DVD commentaries... jerk!) are some of the more interesting things out there to listen too if your a film buff.

I mean, in the young artform/hobby of fanediting, your compilations makes you one of the foremost scholars in an emerging field :)

I wanted to say this on Friday but the site was down:

"The franchise rights alone will make us rich beyond our wildest dreams."

And if I or anyone were to do this, it only makes sense to do it via a separate MP3 like Rifftrax. It wouldn't have to sync up exactly. Heck, I've listened to the startrek.com commentary on TMP:DE twice, and not once with the movie!

Been lurking around for a few weeks.  Just wanted to say I've enjoyed a lot of what I've been seeing/reading, despite having not posted in a while.

Being way off topic. I had the idea for everybody on this site to make a video documetary. My thread was destroyed because people said that People V.S. George Lucas is being made. But I wasn't talking about our hatred or love for george. I just wanted a film on the history of Fan Editing, Our need to get the OT on home video in good quality, and or trials of fan edits. But no people would prefer seeing George Lucas Raped Our Childhood. I just wanted to have a little film of us all talking about different fan edits and preservation efforts. And love for star wars.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

So, I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I've gone through about thirty pages of this thread with brief mentions of it but nothing specific, and the fanedit.org page has no info:

How is the NTSC DVD9 version different from the AVI? Other than the fact that the AVI, as far as I understand, is PAL? People refer to the version the AVI came from as a 'blueprint' and possibly '90% complete', and that was the one that I watched some months ago, so I was wondering. I think there used to be more details on this in the Demonoid torrents, but it's down right now.

Dvd9 has some extras including some scenes are different from Avi.

No blueprint :P Workprint :)

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I was actually sure I saw someone say 'blueprint', since I do know what a workprint is and wouldn't have gotten the two words confused, but I can't find it now using the search function, so I might be wrong.

At any rate, my question was: Just how is the NTSC DVD9 different from the (apparently PAL) AVI of Revisited itself? The visual comparison won't help me with that, I assume, since it's a comparison between Revisited and the commercial DVDs. I gather the AVI is an earlier version, but what changed? The only thing about the AVI that bothered me was that during one of the wipes the sky changed color suddenly for the last few frames of the shot. Which, I assumed, had to do with the fact that the colors have been adjusted, and when there's a wipe you have half of one shot and half of another on screen at the same time.

So I was wondering if that, for instance, was one of the things altered for the DVD9.

Differences between the various versions of ANH-R are also listed on the visual comparison (for example the Cantina hands/flipper) :

Looking at that comparison again, I still don't think there would be a total absense of blood. (is it really perfect, instant cauterization?) I think there would at least be a couple of scattered drops from the initial contact, but whatever. (ok, maybe those drops are out of frame, haha) I just can't help but think about the actual lack of contact time, which I think is a big deal.

We need the Mythbusters to invent a lightsaber and hack up a pig, as the often do. :p

Thanks, people! And Doubleofive especially! I just got to page 233, where after a long argument about newsgroups this is suddenly brought up, completely out of the blue, but I assume what you've linked is more recent!

So, once again, thanks.

I think it probably would cauterize instantly with an arm (although we are speculating on a fictional technology here).

Would probably be different with a torso, like with Maul, seeing as it's a larger area and essentially an organ/liquid filled sack.

TPM supports that, when Maul gets halved there's a fine blood mist.

would you suggest a more misty star wars when they keep waving them sabers around?

Would that be hard to make, but we wont see much of it in this movie..more in ROTJ I guess ^_^

I know a lot of people here prefer to ignore the EU, but just for kicks . . .

From the Wookiepedia article on the Auqualish:

In one of A New Hope's best known continuity errors, Ponda Baba's arm has fin-like hands when still attached, but is hairy and clawed in the close-up shots of the severed arm on the floor. This inspired the writers at West End Games to develop the Aquala and Quara types of Aqualish. Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary retconned the error by creating a new character, Teak Sidbam, said to be sometimes mistaken for Baba.

I am not where it's located but early on I asked here on the forum if the ION cannon should shoot blue and Adywan replied that he was not a fan of EU...but hey what do ya know....some time later it shoots blue :P

So everything / anything can happen :)

was it colored blue because of the Rogue Squadron games?

I am not sure how it happened, might have something to do with the Jawa that shoots R2 in the noggin / dome in the previous movie. ? or the games ofc.

Would be nice to hears it coming straight from the Eopie's mouth eh?! :D

I think the blue=ion started with "X-Wing" way before the Rogue Squadron games, but Ady didn't change it to blue to fit in with EU, he changed it to blue because it looked more like an electrical disruption. That is neither here nor there however.

Could also be related to the Jawa cannon as well.

I was very pleased to see the Ion cannon changed to blue, but I'm not so sure about the electrical effect on the ion blasts. In my mind, the electrical disturbance comes on impact.

Not a big deal though. :)

Hey does anyone know where I can download or get a copy of the Revisited DVD? I downloaded the regular video file of it a while ago, but I'd love to get a hold of the DVD version.

I agree.

An electrical disturbance is unlikely to be caused by an electrical blast travelling through space. Anyway, electricity wouldn't travel like that, and an ionic weapon would look like a laser/plasma blast, which is what it was already.

Still, if I don't agree with Ady's creative choice, I can at least take pleasure in the fact that it looks good.
