Basically there are 5 Adywan-branded copies of ANH out there:

DVD-5 (Revisited second draft)
DVD-9 (Revisited final draft)
PURIST (Revisited - some changes)
AVCHD (A New Hope 2004 SE color-corrected without Greedo shooting)

thankyou for clearing that up guys! i see ady has been a busy busy man! my net connection is super SLOW so i spent over a week downloading the xvid version which you've labeled first draft. are there any differances between the drafts? (on youtube i saw a version where we see bail and jar jar on alderaan - not a fan)

also after readin the stickies i came across the B&P method. anyone on here from the UK  who would be wiling to help this humble pilgrim? cursed as i am with such slow internet.

The Extended Alderaan Destruction sequence is not in any version of the film, but extended and added as a bonus feature deleted scene on the DVD-9.

Here are the differences which are listed on Fanedits.com (which I wrote, actually):

DVD-5
Changes from the Xvid:

- Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
- Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
- Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
- Ponda Baba's arm swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
- Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
- Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
- Typos in the credits fixed

DVD-9
Changes from the DVD-5:
- Replaced "fixed shot" where gun was added to the Death Star Control Room to prevent a continuity error and erased a gun from the following shot. Now there are three guns on the rack after our heroes leave the droids behind.
- Remixed Vader's voice even further to match the rest of the trilogy(?)

PURIST
Changes from the full version:
- Changed 3PO's line back to "There'll be no excape for the princess this time"
- Re-edited Obi-Wan's Hut scene back to its original version
- Removed the extended Death Star reveal
- Removed the extended TIE Fighter reveal
- Removed all music not originally found in the film

So the DVD-5 really isn't so much of a "second draft" as it is a pretty much final draft with one, maybe two tweaks.  Adywan really doesn't remember exactly what changed, but the bonus features are the real draw to the DVD-9 (or DVD DL or dual layer DVD).

Well, you're also given a few compliments there too.  So... yeah.  To each his own.

Zombie said:

The reason the conversation halves were reversed in the actualy real Chew-Hirsh-Lucas edit was because it emotionally seemed weird that after hearing the dire, grave plea from Leia that all of a sudden Obi Wan starts reminiscing about the Jedi and gives Luke this big lesson about what a lightsaber is and then goes on about his father's murder.

That quote was from TFN. Honestly, if you think about it does it really make any MORE sense the way it was in the official version? In that version, they sit around and chit-chat while the whole time there's this mystery looming over them as to why this droid claims to be Obi-Wan's and who the girl is in this message that's pleading for Obi-Wan's help when apparently VERY few people knew that he was even still alive.

If anything I think Adywan's edit makes more sense. They hear the message (which mentions the Clone Wars), Luke then asks about the Clone Wars which gives Obi-Wan an opportunity to direct the following conversation as he sees fit to get Luke's blood pumping to try to get him to come with.

Ha ha. Looks like my edit has pissed off some of the TFN guys. That's made my day :)

Eh, I've read worse.  I was kinda hoping it was a huge anti-Adywan thread that I could hop in on, not a random post or two.  Something like Zombie's "Secret History" thread over there.  That seems like they're being a bit harsh on one who just presented the facts.

And I don't think the end battle of ANHR is a jumbled mess.  It makes so much more sense than the empty ship shots with no reference points for location or scale, and definately more than the blank shots from inside the cockpits.  And 30 Rebel ships against a moon-sized battlestation and a huge number of enemy fighters might not be as elegant-looking as one would imagine.

As bkev said, each to their own, but I'm in the camp that will need more than George just fixing previous errors (such as lightsaber colours and sound mix) in any future releases that are put out, to impress me now.  We'll see what eventually comes out, but in the meantime it's only Ady's future versions that I'm looking forward to expectantly.

Well said. With all the great Star Wars fan edits that have come out, my expectations for any new versions of them that LFL puts out get lower and lower. And I'm sure in many instances, it'll just feel like they're ripping off said fan editors, too.

The sad part is IF on the off chance Lucasfilm actually fixes their masters for a Blu-ray release, they have the legal right to completely rip off everything Adywan did and have ILM copy it in HD without giving Ady any credit for his hard work, and the general public will praise Lucasfilm for doing it.

It's quite possible that could happen. As unfortunate as it would be that Ady wouldn't get any credit for it, we would at least have the satisfaction of knowing Lucasfilm noticed and thought it was a significant enough piece of art to copy. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. :D

If Lucas done that he would be nothing more then a petty tyrant The general public maybe spoon-fed sheep but don't underestimate the power of the internet. By the time Lucas gets around to releasing his new versions, Adywan would of finished ROTJ and remember that most Star wars fans are geeks and geeks are always on the net. so many people would of already watched them, shown their friends and Adywans releases will be pretty well known online and with star wars fans by then.. but I doubt Lucas would do that because he probably thinks hes too good for that anyway.

Adywan,

I can't say enough good things about what you've done here.

It is truly amazing. Kudos to you, sir. Kudos.

I am looking forward to your ESB revision with great anticipation.

Adywan, I got the discs through yesterday. Thanks so much.

Today, for the first time I sat down and watched 'revisited' in one sitting on my big plasma and was genuinely blown away. Your work should be rewarded beyond simple compliments. Incredible! Well done sir(s).

I finally got to have a full showing of ANHR.  It was with my wife and the girl who introduced her to Star Wars, meaning that she indirectly was responsible for me meeting my wife!  They liked it, there were a few "Wows" and a couple "Why didn't Lucas fix that before?"s.

My wife loves the Extended Alderaan Destuction Sequence, even though she likes Jar Jar.  I don't get it.
