The line change is one thing i won't be swayed against

Sure, I understand, as you made this clear in an earlier post. Thank you for the explanation.

I can't say that I fully understand the various inconsistencies that are remedied by the "I" edit, but I will try to pay more attention the next time I watch the six films.

BTW, nice catch on edit #87 (the delayed gesturing); that bit has always bothered me.

That reminds me, has anyone yet discovered the silly continuity error within the Jabba scene? It does not involve Jabba, which can make it difficult to spot, but once you catch it, it's impossible to ignore. I realize you are scrapping the entire Jabba scene, and I mention this because I recently examined whether it would be possible to edit out the tail-stepping bit--which was only my gripe... until I discovered that the scene is also plagued by a continuity error. Hence, I was forced to the same conclusion: It's better just to ignore the entire sequence.

Let me know if I can help with subtitle authoring or image/file hosting. I have spare bandwidth and disk space.

along with some changes Luke & Leia's conversation in ROTJ about their mother. 2 huge continuity errors that were caused only by the prequels( didn't Lucas even know his own films???) but the first is easier to fix in the OT than the PT, but other problems can be fixed in the PT when i finally get around to them.

Ummmm now I don't wanna se that conversation omitted, Leia simply said she remembered her mother through "Just images really....feelings."

Also if you want to get a clip of James Earl Jones saying "Your Mother..." Look no further than CD set of him Reading The New Testement of the bible. He says that at least twice on the cd set You might be able to put it with his ROTJ conversation with Luke. Luke says "Come with me" as Padme also said, then Vader repies "Obi-Wan once thought as you do." Which could be changed to "Your mother once thought as you do." Which seems to fit better.

I totally said to do that in the ESB/ROTJ Wishlist thread.

Regarding the "Your father wanted you to have this" vs. "I wanted you to have this" debate, I can see both sides of the argument. On the one hand, the original line works if one looks at it as Ben assuming (or simply fabricating) what Anakin would have wanted for his son should he have had the chance to raise him. On the other hand, the altered line makes sense in light of Episode III, where Anakin makes no mention whatsoever about wanting his child to be a Jedi (let alone having his lightsaber).

Personally, I agree with Adywan that, in light of the prequels, it makes more sense for Ben to want Luke to have the lightsaber. Ideally the line should be "Your father would have wanted you to have this when you were old enough," but I'm not sure that's feasible from an editing standpoint.

As for Luke and Leia discussing their mother in ROTJ, I've thought for awhile now that the continuity error Episode III introduces (i.e., that Leia remembers her mother while Luke does not, despite the fact that Luke was born first) could be remedied simply by editing Ep. III so that Leia is born first. Additionally, it may be possible to edit the scene in such a way that Padme dies before/as Luke is born, thus furthering the reason why he has no memory of his mother.

Alternatively, one could always skip Padme's death scene entirely, perhaps implying that she lived for a time with Leia on Alderaan. I'm not sure this would be possible, but it would certainly make Leia's memories more believable than suggesting she remembered her mother from her first thirty seconds of life. Perhaps Adywan could composite an image of Padme sitting with the Organas at the end of the film...

By the way, I've been meaning to congratulate you, Ady, on the Mos Eisley clip you posted awhile back. I know you've been open to suggestions and criticisms from this community, but I honestly couldn't believe there were still some nitpicks about that sequence. Who cares if one alien's eyebrow is raised slightly too high? So what if one shot takes 1/3000th of a second too long to make a transition? I thought the work you did in that clip was incredible, and I can't wait to see the finished product in its entirety.

In particular, the severed arm shot in the cantina was excellent -- I was so focussed on seeing if you had replaced the hand with the flipper yet that I didn't even notice the now-bloodless floor and smoking wound; the fx are seamless. There are a ton of other things I was impressed with, changes that were so subtle I wasn't (and still am not) even sure they were changes: the red astromech droid just outside Docking Bay 94, a slight echo now present in the docking bay, Luke's altered dialogue after exiting the cantina, just to name a few. Truly excellent work Ady.

I don't get why this needs to be changed either. What's wrong with the original line?

... of course, perhaps it would be fun to insert a few "your mothers" into the trilogy at key moments:

Obi-Wan: You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

Vader: Your mother. Zinngggg!

Makes me think of that video on YouTube where Vader's lines are dubbed by lines from James Earl Jones in other movies.

Adywan, you're more than welcome to do as you please with your edit...but even if the change works with what happens with Ep3, what it does do is take away from the flawed character that Obi-Wan is. The fact that he lies about the saber and lies about Anakin's father, says a lot about his character. I think changing that changes what we've known about Obi-Wan for a long time now. But anyway, that's just my opinion.

Heh, one of those was mine. I did one with Lion King lines in ESB.
But of course I was inspired to do that by "The Vader Sessions"

I tried to keep an old school flair with the the extremely retro logo from the first teaser poster release. It is also region-neutral and will work for whatever version you prefer (PAL or NTSC).

The full-res version is here at megaupload (2.11 MB).

Like everyone else, I can't wait for the final release!

Sorry for the noob question, but how do people get that pic that shows the little foldout thing displaying the cover they've made? Is that some kind of program template or something? Always wondered that...

musicman - I think it would be better to try to edit Episode III to fit Vader's line than vice versa. I've come up with some possible ways to try it--I think they're in the Starkiller Ranch thread.

Changing Kenobi's one line in ANH from "Your father" to "I" doesn't bother my too much but I do agree with you musicman that it eludes to a larger problem with the overall Star Wars saga. In my opinion the OT is flawless, storywise that is. The plot, the dialog, and the characters were all executed close to perfection. The true problem is that the PT is so heavily flawed storywise that it now makes the OT look like it's full of contradictions and inconsistencies. Lucas royally screwed up when making the PT. The PT is so full of garbage, unfortunately it's impossible to fix all the mistakes with simply cut and paste editing. The story of the PT greatly needs to be rewritten and reshot for it to be faithful to the OT. We know that this can't be done so the easiest thing to make the entire saga make more sense is to edit and change the OT so it fits more with the PT, when in fact it SHOULD be the other way around. I absolutely love what Adywan is doing with ANH so far but I do have fears that eventually the OT is going to be changed from it's original look, feel and story just so it's more faithful to the crap that is the PT and all for the sake of a fluid storyline. I will quietly keep my fingers crossed and pray that this doesn't happen. So far Adywan hasn't done anything for me to believe he doesn't have anything but the best intentions for Star Wars at heart. But I admit I worry for ESB and ROTJ.

Actually most of the dialogue in the OT was VAGUE enough to give the prequels a lot of wiggle room. It didn't really get very specific. You can draw a lot of conclusions in your mind from vague statements, and when they didn't match what you wanted, you scream contradiction.

That is exactly why I think going and messing with the OT lines is not a good idea. Getting everything to try and sync with the PT is really ridiculous. One can only screw up a great Trilogy in attempt to work with an absolutely horrendous trilogy.

I'm not a fan of the PT at all. But after watching them it made me think that when Kenobi says "Your father wanted you to have this.." it was just his way of helping engineer the training of a new Jedi in Luke to repair the wrongs he'd done in the past.

Now however, the prequels do not really exist for me. I now only tend to look at the supplemental discs for my OT projects.

If anyone has a problem tying the OT down amongst the plethora of alternatives out there, I suggest doing an OT project of your own. Then, the original films become so ingrained in your mind that any changes are rendered insignificant.

I am always interested to see different interpretations though and for this reason, I am looking forward to Adywan's projects.

Personally, I wouldn't alter any OT lines just to have them fit in with the PT, but this is Adywan's 18+ months of work and not ours so I guess he should be able to do as he pleases.

Well the audio is now complete. I couldn't get the "I wanted you to have this.." line to sound right so it staying at "your father...". I'm pretty gutted about this because i really wanted to pull this off but it just isn't going to happen no matter how much i work on it. You'll be glad to know that the fanfare is now back as they swoop down on the Death Star and also restored is the Krayt dragon call when Ben appears. All i have left to do is create all the menus, subtitles and finish the last few shots. But that is all going to have to wait until the New year now as i have too much to do with the run up to Christmas.

this is the order it will be released:

XVID
DVD-5 PAL ( bare bones with no menus & extra audio tracks for maximum bitrate)
DVD-5 NTSC ( bare bones with no menus & extra audio tracks for maximum bitrate)
DVD-9 PAL
DVD-9 NTSC

I'll be sending out copies of the DVD-9 versions first and they will probably be limited due to costs (especially overseas copies) so a PIF chain will need to be started but it will be going up on usenet also.

It won't be long now.....

What clips were you using of Kenobi saying the word "I"? I know he says "I" several times during the trilogy. Three that I can think of off hand.

Hey Adywan, When/if you get around to starting an NTSC PIF chain in the U.S. I'll be more than happy to help out with that if you'd like me to. Just drop me a PM or an email at shadowplay_80@hotmail.com and I can give you my address if you want my help. I can handle DVD-5 or DVD-9

By the way, that Mos Eisley clip was excellent. Bravo on Hans new and improved "maneuvers." Looks much better now than the original veering slightly to the left.

This ought be the golden rule in Star Wars fan edits that are driven to fix or improve recognized issues (as opposed to projects that are intended only to quell personal demons) : When necessary, modify PT events to be congruent with OT 'cannon'--not vice versa.

There is early discussion in another thread about (again?) developing A prequel episode. That is, one 'new' film to precede the OT (and to replace, by Borg assimilation, Ep1 and Ep2). I wonder if there are enough anchor points in Ep3 to support flash backs or other time jumping methods? At first glance it is a feasible way to extend Ep3 into, say, a 3-hour movie. The immediate advantage, of course, is that all the prequel content is readily available in anamorphic NTSC and PAL DVD.

Admittedly, I haven't thought this through (I only know that I like the idea), but with enough clever minds and fresh approaches, any project is do-able.

New guy here, I've been off work now for 5 weeks with a broken forearm, 2 weeks ago I was improving Obi-Wans lightsabre in ANH 2004 DVD, you know the bit where you can tell its plastic (I'm now in training to be ambidexterous). I searched on google to find if there was a free program to demux AC3 which led me to this site. I,ve been reading this thread for 4 days!!!!! This is better than the Top Gear, FHM & Empire mags I've been getting as 'get well soons'. I must admit I did jump quite a number of pages once there was mention of the project being ready for Nov 2007, (Did you go for your operation Adywan?) I,ve given up on my project, because there is already a master at work. I am almost 40 and my wife thinks i've lost my head, being excited about Star Wars again!!! Its almost its 30th anniversary in UK: 27th Dec, there couldn't be a better way to celebrate!!
