I'm listening to the music... did you use the SE as your music sounds almost different... did you remaster it? It seems faster or am I just imagining things... also, what program are you using? it's really great

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

Amazing work, Adywan! What's your process, from ripping to DVD-ready? Are you following ADigitalMan's awesome MPEG-editing guide?

Adywan, you're like a one-man ILM team... this is, to put it simply, amazing.

Your attention to detail is remarkable... the Aurabesh writing and altered graphics on the turret gun displays, the Falcon taking off from the Death Star more quicky... and of course changing the formerly static space battle into a fast-paced, dynamic action sequence... it's all extremely impressive.

I tell ya, I'd love to pop this into my DVD player for some friends who know nothing about this project to see their reactions to this "special" special edition.

Adywan,

Pretty impressive stuff... the Tie/Falcon Chase is really good.... no complaints at all from me

-----

And now for some constructive criticism on the Vader/Ben duel....

The new music is an interesting choice which to be honest I don't know if I care for it or not, but even so when Han, Luke, Leia are talking it should be slightly quieter... their dialog is getting drowned out.

New Sabers are great!

The transition from new music to old music (when Ben dies) is a little jarring... as is Luke's "No!" (was it shortened or sped up?)

It seems that the shoot out was sped up a bit to make it "faster, more intense!" The only problem is that it now looks like an old Chaplin movie.... everyone is moving a bit too quickly and it looks un-natural... especially the smoke from the blasters

---

Just my $0.02
As always you really do impress with your tweaks and add-ons... keep up the great work

He did say in the post that the audio work was very much incomplete--hasn't balanced out the audio and all that.

Could someone upload this somewhere else besides rapidshare?

I did say that this was a temp soundtrack. i won't be getting around to mixing the soundtrack until all the FX work & editing is finished.

as a guideline i'm using the isolated score that Belbucus did so any credit for the quality of the EP 4 music used in the temp soundtrack goes to him. I'm using Sony Vegas 7 to do most of my music & film editing.

The problem is that when you add a new piece of music or remix it it will always be a bit jarring at first. I remember when they eliminated the echo effect from the TIE battle music it took me ages to get use to that.

Nothing has been sped up (unless you count that the PAL version is 4% faster than the NTSC version anyway). the only thing i have done to the shoot out is touch up the laser blasts and add blaster flashes where they weren't present.

I've been able to upload this clip now to yousendit.com via a different isp account.

I've very impressed with everything... the new laser blasts are top notch and the exterior shots of the Falcon zooming by with TIEs all around it are perfect.

My only reservation is the new music when they are approaching the ship on the Death Star. I'd loose it.

The work you're doing is outstanding, just try to keep some perspective and let's not fall into the trap of changing things simply because you can, or want to have a longer list of "new stuff."

As you get closer to finalizing, take a step back and anything that doesn't improve the movie, fix an obvious mistake or looks PERFECT should go.

You are well on the way to a project that looks as good (if not better) than something LFL would have done - if you have even ONE shot in there that isn't as good as the rest, it will bring the whole thing down with it.

For what it's worth, I'm a professional CG artist (I work on Galactica) and my friends and I agree what you are doing is outstanding - just be sure every change you make is as good as the one before it; anything that stands out as a weak link should either be fixed, of if it can't be done right, no matter how cool the concept is, leave it out.

Come to LA and we'll set a screening for ya!

Hah! I'll be damned. You guys do fantastic work.

BTW, I like what I saw for the most part, but I really don't have a clue what was changed. Could someone rustle up some before and after screenshots, or post the clip from the movie showing what it looks like before the changes?

Adywan,

Great work! Will you be making this available in NTSC as well as PAL? If so, a copy needs to be sent to ILM from an anonymous source with a note that says something to the effect of "You all suck!" Maybe not...

I understand why the new music seems jarring, but in the context of the entire saga, that piece of music is an interesting and entirely appropriate choice for the duel. Will you be inserting other music from the prequels into ANH? What about when you get around to ESB and ROTJ?

You don't have the 2004 DVDs?

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

adywan, that is beautiful work. Everything is fantastic. The only thing that will take some getting use to is the music inserted into the duel. I just prefer it without music, but I will wait to see it with a completed audio mix before I decide whether I prefer it ithout music or with music. The new computer monitors on the turrets look very good as does the laser blasts, and the lightsaber look outstanding. Also, the completely new exterior shots of the Falcon and the Ties in the Tie Battle look very good. Keep up the hard work.

P.S. Thanks for uploading the clip to yousendit, adywan.

Very cool indeed! I have faith that the audio will sound excellent when finished, but the new FX rock!!

Speaking of audio...is the Imperial March featured prominently in your cut?

You're using the same program I am I believe lol... Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0? heh...

What about the CG stuff... you didn't do that in the program did you? I was trying to use it to make a new shot for another edit I'm doing and had limited results when it came to isolating the Tantive 4 from one shot...

Anyways, amazing work. It really is.

I have to agree that Battle of the Heroes is an apropro choice, but seems still kinda strange for me. If only there were some recording of it that was slightly different...an arrangement... Cool anyways heh

great work

Yeh, this is what i am doing. You'd be surprised how much work i have put into a few scenes and when i watched them back in their entirety they just didn't work so they were scrapped. I have always felt that the SE had a few things added that were purely for "looks what we can do" and i will be steering well clear from that idea. If i feel that a shot or scene doesn't work then i either retry to do it or scrap it from the edit entirely.

Wow, thanks you. that is an amazing compliment to get. I love the FX work on Galactica. You guys do an amazing job. Thanks for the advise.

I have always felt that the lightsaber duel needed a musical score. Some of the most memorable moments in the OT had an amazing score and it really enhanced the emotional impact for that scene. I actually have the duel with about 7 different soundtracks but none seemed to match up with the impact and shot cues that were on the screen. ever since i have re-edited the beginning part of the duel to make it more intense it seems to fall a bit flat but after adding the first attempt at a musical score to this scene i realised what was missing. I added "Battle of the Heroes" purely by accident when i was messing about one day. i was surprised by how many of the cues seem to match perfectly with each shot change and emotion. It was as if this score was written along with this scene.

It would be great if i could find an alternate recording to give it that slightly different feeling.

It will be featured a couple of times but not heavily.

I'm using Adobe After Effects 7 for the majority of the FX work. Without this program there is no way i would have been able to do even about 10% of what i have done so far. Its a great program and i would recommend that anyone that wants to do an edit get hold of a copy of this. You won't regret it.

I know that its going to be impossible to do an edit that will ever be 100% perfect for anyone but my only hope is that it comes a bit closer than the SE's do at present and the closest to the vision that i would like to see in a future SE if it were to ever happen..

Yes , this will be available in NTSC as well as PAL. The NTSC version will be released a few weeks after the PAL version.

I would love for GL to see this edit. That would make my day. But i doubt that will ever happen.
