If either you or Ric have any conclusive proof that a sock account is being used to endorse Adywan's work I'm sure a moderator would be pleased to hear about it.

I keep hearing lots of praise for Adywan's, for the lack of a better word "Fan SE", but when I look for it I see a few things about the available versions that confuse me a bit.  The seemingly newest release is the "purist" which is also the smallest as it is an NTSC DVD-5.  The oldest file seems to be the highest quality, though I think I've seen negative remarks from Adywan or the torrent uploaders about how current the edits are in the older files.  So, what I'm taking from this so far is that the older, higher quality files are not up to date, and the lower quality (compared to HD) larger (compared to purist DVD-5) DVD-9 has more progress (compared to HD), and the purist DVD-5 has some of the, I suppose crazier, stuff from the DVD-9 removed?  So, what version is the go-to version that everyone is raving about?

The DVD9 (largest version) is the best.

Adywan showed his edit to a few people who work in the film industry or else worked in some capacity on a on of the OT Star Wars films, and there were changes that he made which they weren't so crazy about. So, he made a "Purist" version which redacted some of the changes.

These are things such as: changing the order of dialogue in Ben Kenobi's house so that it plays out how it was originally shot/written in the original script (the scene was edited later); changing the initial reveal of the Death Star so that it orbits a planet (as they were still working on it and it wasn't fully operational yet); and changing the music which can be heard during Obi-Wan's duel with Vader.

I recommend the DVD9 version. It has the most extras; it has a title menu (the purist version doesn't); and to be honest, I don't mind the changes.

Rather than getting the Purist version, I recommend getting the Revisited DVD9 and Harmy's Despecialized Edition v2.1 AVCHD. That way, you'll have the SE as it should have been and the OOT in HD, rather than having a sort of in-between.

Well, yeah. I copied/pasted that entire change list into the DVD9 and Purist torrents I put on the spleen.

I think he was confused because the Purist version was made after the DVD9 (and further down on the list of versions), and so it wasn't clear to him which one was the version he had heard people raving so much about.

Initially, when I first watched this, I preferred it over all to the originals but didn't approve of the extra music queues. However, having watched it again yesterday I've started to actually prefer it with them, although I still don't like the new way Vader and Obi-wan ignite their sabres (Vader's should always be pre-lit in that scene), I actually like the additional music.

I think the only thing I think could've been better is the Torture droid 'electric needle'. Electrifying it doesn't seem needed. A syringe in a prison torture scenario is pretty much scary enough.

I'm hoping that when Ady goes over it for the HD version, the music will still be there as a choice at least, or I may have to stick with his DVD-9 version.

Well Ady does intend on coming to a final decision regarding the music in the duel.  Whether it still needs to be sped up or not well that too remains to be seen.  As for the electric needle I believe that's going along with finding a way to restore that iconic scene with Tarkin and the Death Star exploding.

Just curious... With the deleted Luke/Biggs/Tatooine scenes appearing in better quality on the Bluray, is there a chance any of them will be cleaned up, restored and added into ANH:R:HD?

I don't like those scenes. They add nothing to the story, and Mark Hamill's performance there is lackluster at best.

I know you guys probably get lots of suggestions, but upon re-viewing ANH:R I had an idea about one change you could make for the HD version that would resolve something which bugs me every time I watch it.

During the climax of the Battle of Yavin, when the Millenium Falcon comes roaring towards the camera from out of the sun, have it be blazing away with both gun turrets the whole time. This way, Vader's wingman can be trying to dodge the laser fire that just killed his buddy, instead of crashing into Vader in a blind panic.

It makes Han's return a lot more dramatic (right now it seems like he just fires a single well-aimed shot and dumb luck takes care of the rest) and eliminates a logical inconsistency, since Vader's wingmen would most likely be elite pilots and not prone to such stupid mistakes.

Also it would look awesome.

If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger space battleship and try again.

I love the fact that the other pilot is so shocked that he crashes into Vader.

I'd say the importance of the moment where the falcon comes out of nowhere is the one that leaves Vader with a lot of questions about fate and destiny...

No amount of force power or premonition can stop Vader from saying "what?" and you could follow that one moment as the key that unlocks Vader's doubt in the dark side and asking why?

I never got the sense that his wingmen were HIS wingmen.  In the DS scenes just prior, Vader turns to two pilots walking by and says "Several fighters have broken off from the main group.  Come with me."  He just recruited the first two pilots that were handy at the moment.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

There are two possibilities to this: (1) The two pilots were part of Black Squadron and they were waiting for orders, or (2) they were in fact just random pilots not part of Black Squadron.

B-but, but they're wearing black!

Yeah, nonsense. It was clearly just "Hey, you two! You're mine now."  Both of them are just thinking "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU---"

I tire of the constant EU fueled suppositions as much as the next guy....but to be fair Vader DOES actually specifically walk up to the 2 pilots in question and order them to follow him.....he doesn't just grab 2 guys walking by.
