Are you sure a fan didn't just upload Ady's version to the page? Because I'm sure that happens.

It was posted by the official Star Wars page, not a fan.  Might have been from some special or something.  I checked the ady's version, and it's not ady's.  Though in the still frame, it looks a little better than Ady's.

I'd just really like NTSC versions of the trilogy, but I haven't seen them anywhere.

... of Adywan's trilogy?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

It's not a trilogy yet.

ESB:R isn't even out.

The only version of the DVD-9 I could get was the NTSC version, my DVD-5 is PAL.

So I had a thought, likely something that won't even end up in Adywan's revamp, but something that is nevertheless worth considering in my opinion. I've been rereading the original Star Wars novel, and I still love it. It's a good book with its own unique traits and insight into Star Wars.

Now, as is well known, there were 30 ships involved in the assault on the Death Star ("We count 30 ships, Lord Vader, but they're so small they're evading our turbolasers," both in the novel and film). Additionally, we see unique pilots with different helmets during the takeoff from Yavin, pilots and helmets we never see again. In the end, we see two X-wings (obviously Luke and Wedge) and a mysterious Y-wing return to Yavin. According to the novel, there were four squadrons involved in the attack, as evidenced by, Dodonna saying during the briefing, "Yellow squadron will cover for Red on the first run. Green will cover Blue in the second." As is well known, Luke was part of a 12 man X-wing squadron assigned the Blue designation (changed to Red for the film), and the Y-wings who made the first trench run were part of Red squadron (changed to Gold for the film). But we see none of the interference run by the other two squadrons.

I can't help but wonder what it would have been like to see more of the other two groups' involvement. It wouldn't have to be much, but it sure would be nice to see a slightly extended battle as we already have in ANH:R, but with newly filmed pilots (with helmets like those in the Yavin hangar) in cockpits engaging and distracting the TIE fighters, taking part in radio chatter, perhaps every now and then even making encouraging comments to Red and Gold squadrons. I feel this could be done without destroying the pacing of the battle if worked in carefully. But it would involve a great deal of unique visuals and building at least one cockpit for filming.

I just looked this up: according to EU sources, Blue and Green would have distracted Imperials by attacking the superlaser. Though I'm sure most here are not fans of the EU (and my fandom does not extend particularly far), this would be an interesting way to interpret it, as such an attack could not afford to be ignored by the Imperials and really could provide some freedom for the more important but less threatening (in appearance) trench run. I understand that dragging out the battle could potentially damage the tension felt by the audience, but I wonder if it could be pulled off without such problems. I know I'd really like to see something like this.

Hi, all. New to these boards, and need a bit of help.

My daughter is going to be returning home from Afghanistan this spring. One of the things she's mentioned to me is that she saw/heard about the revisited Star Wars DVD that Adywan made. Of course, daddy went looking for it. I soon found that it's not something you can just buy, or even download in a format you can just watch. I'd like to have it for her, but I'm afraid my tech skills don't include this kind of thing. I did download Iso burner and tried to follow the instructions on Adywan's page, but from what i can tell of the torrent file I downloaded, there aren't even any ISO files in it; just BUP and IFO files, and a bunch with no extensions at all. Can anyone tell me exactly what to do, here? I'd appreciate it; be nice to have that ready for her when she comes home (among other things, of course). I remember coming home from my first deployment to Bosnia lo these many years ago, so I want it to be really special.

Thanks in advance!

M.

Don't Panic Mr Mainwaring!

If you have VOB, BUP and IFO files you have the components of an ISO.

This should be able to be burned to disc on a utility with a 'burn Video_TS' setting (most have such a thing).

If the VOB files are missing you will need to find a complete copy of the disc image.

I spent some time writing an explanation of the usually reliable method of looking up a project on fanedit info and using Jdownloader to obtain a stable copy.

However I notice that site has gone through more re-organisation and Ady's edits no longer seem to be available from there, which seems a bit odd to me considering how high profile his projects are.

It's possible they are there but I'm reading it wrong (I am infamously stupid) but if they have been removed it might make sense for a FE stalwart to raise this issue with the appropriate minister.

First off, burn with imgburn.

Bingo, I don't know why Ady is missing from there.  It's possible the files are offline so he's disappeared.  I'll inquire.

Ok, so it sounds like the links may have gone offline.  I will work on reuploading what I have, which I think is NTSC DVD-5 and 9.

Oh, and suddenly there is a nzb up for the DVD9 if you're into newsgroups.

...

I do indeed have the DVD-5 and 9 NTSC.  I'm uploading the 5 to Megashares right now, will upload the 9 afterwards.

DVD-5 and DVD-9 NTSC have been uploaded to Megashares and can be found at fanedit.info.

I uploaded an ISO of the NTSC DVD9 to a torrent in May 2011.
It is currently very actively being seeded.

Googling "ntsc a new hope revisited torrent" has it listed as the first several entries on the list.

I've just now uploaded the NTSC DVD9 version to Myspleen, if anyone cares.

I made sure to change the .iso a bit (ie. I added a readme) so that the hash is decidedly not the same as on public torrents.

EDIT (next morning): So, I uploaded the NTSC DVD9 of this yesterday to Myspleen... and ALREADY Myspleen says it has been "snatched" (completed) 11 times. Sheesh.

Adywan, what specific music tracks (ie. what versions from which albums) were added to the end credits of ANH:R? I really love the sound of the horns (trombones?) at 2:05:26 (Throne Room music) and so I would love to be able to track down and buy whatever versions of the music you had added.

I believe there was even a 'soundtrack album' released with ANH:R, if you can track that down you would have all the music you enjoyed.

Best work day ever. It's standardized testing day, and all my students are done so I'm watching Star Wars Revisted with my class.

My students are taking standardized tests, too, but I rather unfortunately can't watch Star Wars with them. =(

I did, however, show SW:R as part of a summer course I taught last year. The kids were blown away.

We had a blast. Well, half did (maybe 7) the other half just texted people or whatever it is kids do on their phones the whole time.

End of the day I gave the disk to a kid.

I know a lot of people will get upset over my opinion, but I just think this is a very flawed fan edit. The changes, in my opinion, are even worse than what George Lucas did with special editions.

Oh, look. Now there's gajillion more ships flying all around Death Star which is now in orbit of some planet for some reason.

Oh, look. Now there's gajillion more snowspeeders and gajillion more walkers.

Oh, look, now there's music during Obi-Wan VS Darth Vader... that sticks out like a sore thumb, much like Darth Vader's "NOOOOoooo" added in third SE o ROTJ.

And so on and on.

Yet edits by Lucas are met with well deserved criticism while there's a lot of praise for this, dare I say, butchery of worse magnitude?

Sorry if this offends someone, but that's just how I feel about this.

Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.  No one can please everyone.  What did you not like about it in particular?  Is it mostly because you came to this site seeking the very Original Trilogy, completely untampered?  If so, then of course you won't like this.  I personally think it's an improvement in every regard, if I'm aiming for a special edition.  But I also enjoy watching the true Original Trilogy.  It simply depends on my mood.
