Well, even though you lost the original ANH:R, that just means the NEW ANH:R will only be better, since you'll have two films under your belt. You'll have more experience with film editing, so I'm really looking forward to ANH:R HD!

Cheers

Adywan deleted the files because he didn't think he would need them again and they were in standard definition so he wouldn't have been able to use them anyway.

Those proposed changes were among my few nit-picks with the original release as well, so I'm happy to hear that they may be getting addressed. My only other suggestion would be to restore Obi-Wan's and Vader's confrontation aboard the Death Star, such that Vader's sabre is already lit when Obi-Wan meets him. In Revisited, Obi-Wan is the first to ignite his sabre, and I always thought that that had a significant (and unwelcome) narrative effect; it appears that Obi-Wan is not acting defensively, but rather offensively, which seems to go against both his and, later in Empire, Yoda's instructions about using the Force for knowledge and defence, never for attack. And likewise, by being aggressive and very much on the hunt for Obi-Wan here, it seems more in keeping with Vader's character and motivation to have him make the first move, as it were.
I brought this up with Adywan a while ago and he is considering it. He made Obi-wan light up first because he did in Episode III, but I pointed out that I think Luke failed at the cave in ESB because he lit up first.

Besides the torture needle, this was my only real issue. I have always loved when Obi-Wan finds Vader standing with his saber already drawn. It was just a cool moment, and a rare one I might add. He knew this is the guy that messed him up before, and he's pissed. Cool moment I'd like to see restored.

Yes, agreed. The jedi's were always shown as resorting to fighting when all else failed (the PT made a royal mess of this, but lets just pretend the PT doesn't exist alright? Hell, I do it all the time!). It always made more sense to me that when Ben shows up Vader is standing there, saber ready, basically telling him, "don't talk, just light up, and lets beat the sh*t out of eachother".....and Ben, upon seeing this, realizes he has no choice and follows suit in order to buy time for the others. IMHO it is more of a dark side trait to light up first, immediately resorting to anger and fighting rather than talking first

To be fair, after all that talk about learning his lesson from the cave, Luke lights up first at Bespin and on the Death Star 2 so that's not something you can lay entirely at the feet of the PT.

Ben also slices first in the Cantina, they have their guns ready but he doesn't wait for them to fire before drawing.

He fails at Bespin and is falling to the Dark Side on the DS2. Apparently we never see Luke pass the cave test. ;-)

He passes the test when he throws his saber away (which makes the PT Yoda seem even more stupid) and refuses to kill his father even though he has a chance but he had a bit of help from Palpatine there.

If the Emperor hadn't been such a show off and offered him Vader's vacant position maybe Luke would have had a less easy time cooling off.

well there are going to be many changes done for the HD version. There are some things i just don't think work and others that i just couldn't do with what i either had available or the knowledge to do back then, which i will be changing (oh my god, i am George Lucas. lol). What these things are, well i'm going to keep many a secret ;)

At least you aren't claiming that your future version is your original version.

But seriously, it's cool to read you'll be giving AnH another look. Not that I don't already consider AnHR my personal favorite version to watch of the movie.

Also Jai is going to send me a good quality sound clip of that Obi-wan dialogue so once I remake the altered version I'll post it and you can use it if you want. Also let me know if there's any thing else along the way in terms of audio that you think you might like to hear modified or tweaked.

I think it's safe to say that ANHR as we know it was a draft, a first attempt. It will always be available in the highest quality that it ever was, thus we can be morally consistent OOT-ers while still looking forwards to ARSE.

That would be the Battle Royale Extended Alternative Studio Take I gather?

Well, I am finding out that my ANH:R disk won't play in my Blu Ray/DVD player. I tried putting it on a DVD-R disk (instead of a DVD+R) but that did nothing. Somehow my disk player won't play anything that has been burned onto a DVD.

Oh well, guess I'll have to get another Blu Ray/DVD player. Anyone know of some good Blu Ray/DVD players that can actually play recorded DVD's and Blu Rays?

That's peculiar. Every player I know can play burned media. What kind of disc are you using? Maybe it was an unsucessful burn.

In any case, in response to your question, PS3s play all blank media and they play Blu-Rays and games too.. :-) Triple the fun! In all seriousness though, my Toshiba DVD Recorder as well as my Oppo plays all blank media. If you want, you could probably try a lower-end DVD player and ask the store if you could test it first.

I am using a Verbatium DVD-R (8.5 GB) disk. I'm pretty sure it's not a bad burn, considering that it plays perfectly on my computer, and on other DVD players. I have a Marantz bd5004, I did some research on the internet and a lot of people are having problems playing recorded DVD's with Marantz.

Guess the Marantz is odd then...since Verbatims are definitely reliable.

You could probably replace it with any Blu-Ray player, as inability to play burned DVDs is not the norm; still, I stand by my recommendation of the PS3. :-)

Yes I am using ImgBurn, and I have watched ANH:R on my old DVD player many times.  Will use PS3 for now, certainly not buying anything from Marantz anymore.  Not anytime soon, at least.
