Because the fans understand Star Wars a helluva lot better than Lucas does. Proof of this: Gungans.

It's all going a lot slower than i hoped at the moment. I have about 55 mins of finished footage but i have hit a huge obsticle. I've run out of hard drive space. The earliest i can afford a new hard drive will be after christmas. presents for 3 teenage daughters seriously hits the bank balance and being on sickness benefit doesn't leave a lot of spare cash. Its amazing just how much space an edit like this takes. fingers crossed i can manage to scrape up enough cash before then though. i'm going to post a few new screenshots tonight along with a new sequence for everyone who wanted to hear the Imperial March in ANH

ok, here's the link to the clip i promised. I thought that the first time we see the death star should be a little better than a quick shot of a lone stardestroyer heading towards it. The audio is very close to the final mix on this clip but a split second out of sync for some reason (happened when i encoded it to xvid but its fine on the mpeg).

this will be the last clip i post for a while now. I don't want to give too much away until its realesed

enjoy

LATEST CLIP

I'll post the screenshots later tonight

"the imperial march" 'sounding' great with the shot, the music at the end is a star wars one ? thanks again adywan hope that this project will be release at the time.

Ah, now I remember why I like this site. The creativity just blows me away. I was curious about the scaling of the Star Destroyers in the last shot as they move behind the death star. They seem like they need to be smaller. I'd have to break out my Star Wars Chronicles for the size comparison chart.

Oh. My. God.

Absolutely amazing, Adywan!!! Visuals are thrilling. Music is perfect.

This is going to be the best edit we've ever had on these boards.

When you're finished with this, we need to talk about a collaboration.

Adywan,

The latest clip is amazing (although I agree with Sluggo that the Star Destroyers look a little too big in a few shots).

Please promise us you'll release this before LucasFilm hires you

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Thats one reference i really wish i had. Does anyone have a scan of the chart that they could post so i can get the scale correct please?

Adywan, what music did you use at the end of the Hut scene?

I'm with everybody else when it comes to the general consensus of your edit, this is just such a top-notch job and the creativity involved is giving this film the scale that Lucas couldn't do 29 years ago (has it been that long?).

Anyway the Imperial March is a welcomed edition but I am curious as to what planet the Death Star is hovering over? Is it just a filler or is it somehow being incorporated in the edit?

Also, wouldn't the Death Star, being the scale of a small moon, cast a large shadow or eclipse the horizon of the planet?

Just pointless nitpicking, but I know the time you have devoted to this edit in the end will showcase only the best.

Haven't been on the board in a month and seeing this just brightened up my day.

Great Work!!!

This sounds and looks wonderful adywan

Truly a one of a kind - Special Edition!

Just wondering, do we have a "release date" like should one expect the release date before January?

Thanks again

Hell yes!!!! Adywan, when I saw the new Death Star introduction I got this fanboy grin that I haven't had over Star wars in a long time. Thank you for the hard work and time that you have undoubtedly put into this project. I hope you can find a new hard drive for a reasonable price, because I would hate for this project to get delayed over something like that.

Its a mix of a few different tracks. These are the tracks used, in order:

The Imperial March
Aboard the Executor
The Emperor arrives
Jedi War Council

The planet is just a "filler". I added the planet to mirror the Death Star 2 in ROTJ. That is under construction orbiting a moon so i thought that, because it isn't yet fully operational until it reaches Alderaan, that it would be in keeping with that theme. i haven't added a shadow because i'm not sure that it would actually cast one given the direction of the light source, plus it doesn't in ROTJ so i thought i'd keep it the same.

At the moment its looking more likely that a release date will be in the first quarter of 2007

Adywan: AMAZING. In my opinion if you're going to do a fan edit, it needs to be done professionally. If there's anything that isn't seemless or takes you out of the movie, you've undermined what you've set out to do. And you sir have done a knockout job thusfar. From the radical new special effects shots to the subtle additional music, this is shaping up to be the edit to end all edits. I'm sure we all can understand the "real world" issues that take prescedence and will gladly wait however long it takes for this project to be completed.

A couple of suggestion, if I may:

-There was the idea (I believe it was ErikStormtrooper's) in the Starkiller Ranch thread that the 2nd Death Star was in construction over Mustafar. I that case I disagreed, as in its condition above Endor I didn't think it would be going anywhere. That said, if you're going to use a planet in the background of the DS1's into, why not Mustafar? The only drawback there I could see would be a lack of available "background plates" for the lava planet.

-While the "Imperial March" is an essential piece to be included, what do you think about retaining ANH's "Imperial Theme" througout the saga as the "Death Star Theme"? This way you could keep the ANH theme in the films, and mix up the music of the Empire a bit, as you wouldn't want to overplay the March.

Mustafar was my original thought but i decided to go with a planet that would echo the look of the Death Star in ROTJ

Most of the music in ANH will remain the same. The Imperial march will feature a few times thoughout the movie but i want to keep it to a minimum because, like you stated, i don't want to overplay it.

I'll scan a copy once I get home unless somebody beats me to it.

There is a problem with the size of the Death Star, there doesn't appear to be any agreement on size, and it is hard to judge distances in Space anyhow.
Some references quote 120km, some 160km and some 900km. I had this problem myself when doing some new scenes for Jedi a few years back.

I'd just scale them so it 'looks right' in comparison with the other films, currently it looks like they are too large in comparison.
To that end I found this the most useful reference by far.

WOW! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Music, effects, the cleaned-up Vader, EVERYTHING. Only a few criticisms/suggestions:

1. When the music first comes in during Ben's Hut scene, it's a bit too loud. Turn it down and it'll be perfect.

2. The transition to the Imperial March is a bit jarring. Perhaps instead of rolling right into the melody, you could use the first few seconds of the Imperial March track which is mainly percussion and the underlying bass parts.

3. I think you should cut down on the amount of SD's and TIE Fighters in the space shot. I don't think we should see the TRUE might of the Empire until ESB.

4. The planet used in the shot is beautiful, but it might just be a bit too bright. This is way the idea of maybe using Mustafar would be something worthy of consideration.

Other than that, it's BEAUTIFUL!
