I saw your dinner scene with Padme’s family (it’s on his youtube channel) and I like what I see! I’m a big fan of the idea of inserting Anakin’s theme into II and III since I think it’s one of the best pieces of the trilogy. It feels like Lucas and Williams no longer wanted to use it, which is a shame, because the theme makes Anakin more likeable.

I just had a few ideas that I wanted to share:
First, I’ve been wondering if you could make CGI look more real by sharpening it. I’m mostly thinking about characters, with rotobrush/magic mask (I think I’ve seen that you’re using Resolve). There’s a tool called Mid/Detail in Resolve that I’ve seen used to increase/decrease detail in human faces. I’ve also just heard about the Relight feature in Resolve, which maybe could be used to make lightsabers glow onto characters. Obviously, you could also use it to relight scene, which may give you a radical new look.

Finally, here’s a review for something called Dehancer that makes digital footage look like film. But I didn’t realize at first that it costs $449. You could almost buy your own ship for that! 😉

Completely agree! I can think of only one time it was used in AOTC and it’s kinda mixed quietly into the background.

I do apply a bit of sharpening and sometimes mess around with the mid/detail…usually it can’t be used very much. But I’ll take a look at the link! Thanks! Unfortunately, my pc can’t handle a lot of the ai stuff in resolve very well. (like magic mask and relight).

Oh yeah, Dehancer is pretty cool. But it is crazy expensive. I know there’s other software out there that does the same sort of thing with differing prices (FilmConvert for $125, Color.io for $129, etc.) Of course, probably the most cheapest options out there is to just do your own sort of film emulation with cheaper plug-ins/what you already have. However, doing so is obviously more difficult and more time consuming in regards to research and all that plus the results might vary a lot depending on how you do it (which might honestly be kind of a good thing as well since it means it gives you a better senes of control with how you want the final product to look).

Yeah it’s a bit too pricey for me. I would need to spend money on a better pc before I look into something like that. I’m surprised I’ve learned more about color correction and film emulation as I have. Granted, I’m nowhere near a pro, but I’m pleased with how I’ve been able to implement some of the things I’ve learned free on YouTube (without paying for a class!).

Have you considered cutting something in the shot of Mace defending Dooku? I just feel like he’s patronizing towards Padme. I would probably cut the last line, “It’s not in his character”. The longer that shot keeps going, the more smiling and patronizing he seems. Also, I think it makes him and the Jedi look dumb since we find out that Dooku indeed is involved.

This is a very interesting idea. That particular exchange was always awkward, wasn’t it? I had a good think on it and tested it out. I wasn’t sure because, at first, I thought that line would be necessary. But I was wrong! It works very well without it and the point still comes across. Thanks for the idea!

I’m planning on cutting Yoda out. This will be about Dooku/Anakin. I’m finding some interesting ways of adding on to that fight while hopefully taking out the um…maclunky parts. 😆

I think it’s been suggested previously on the PT Redux thread that the duel could be radically recut so that Obi-Wan faces Dooku alone. Then, Anakin arrives and runs or jumps toward Duke Dooku as he’s about to kill Kenobi. Then you get rid of that whole “go slowly on the left”. I would want to get rid of Yoda with the lightsaber, maybe even dueling with the Force, because I just think Kenobi and Anakin look weak just lying there, but then you might not have a lot of footage left. I think I’ve actually seen a clip of someone on this forum making it look Dooku throws a cylinder toward Anakin and used the shot of Anakin getting hit by Force lightning and placing the cylinder over the lightning.

If you want to keep Yoda and Dooku throwing things, perhaps you could have them thrash talking eachother, and then Dooku says something like “It is obvious that this contest can only be decided by our skills with the Force”. And then they start to throw things. Perhaps impossible, but I’ve seen something called wav2lip where you could lipsync new lines. If memory serves me right, the resolution is low, but you can improve it with deepfakes.

Yes, that’s my plan (hate that “go in slowly on the left” line). I think the issue has always been HOW to get the 2 Jedi coming in at different times? Because they both come in from the same republic gunship thingy. Well, I think I’ve found something that might work…it’ll just require more fx work. By-the-way, anyone interested in helping with fx work? I’m still learning in this arena but I know I’ll only get so good.

Yes I’ve seen the cylinder being thrown at Anakin and that works pretty well. In fact, there was an earlier version of this done by Trooperman in his Shroud of the Darkside edit. I-…well…hmm…I hate to give too much away…but let’s just say I’ve got some plans!

I’ve actually tried switching that particular line around like you’ve suggested. I have something that almost works…I might post it someday.

Hmm…I didn’t know you could improve it with, say, DeepFaceLabs. Anyone here on the forums gotten any good with DeepFaceLabs? First, my computer can’t really handle it well. Second, when I’ve attempted it in the past, I didn’t know how to refine it for getting a better result. Even with the tutorials out there, they don’t explain it well enough (for me) to get better results.

It’s odd to carefully study PT scenes. There was one video from you with the gang in the arena where the original footage had this awful effect on Sam Jackson head. I guess it was the same kind of blending of two shots as you’ve shown with Jake Lloyd.

That scene of Palps watching the troops also has strange things going on. The blue senate guy has his mouth open, like he’s going “Wow!” like a kid. And behind Bail is a guy of the same species as the one in the cantina who doesn’t like Luke. Knowing George, it must be the same guy. An incredibly succesful politican who ended up with the death sentence in 12 star systems. McCluncky!

But I’m liking the changes! I’m curious about the new music for Sheev looking at the clones. One thing that I’ve been thinking about regarding Zam’s changer-thing. I was thinking that you could perhaps get rid of it all, except for her death, and you recolor her skin grey as she morphs. The idea is that she gets deformed by the dart in way that looks a bit like the Nazis dying in Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade.

Yeah, I think it’s when Sam simply turns his head to screen left and it looks like it’s been reverse and also maybe slowed down? It’s odd…but it goes by pretty quickly too.

The music I inserted was temporary (John Williams - Black Sunday OST). I don’t have the ending music figured out yet cuz I haven’t nailed down the edit yet…cuz there are a few FX shots I don’t know how to pull off convincingly yet!😆

On the subject of changing pitch, I was wondering if you could do it with Yoda’s voice. I think his voice seems to sound brighter than in the OT, but that doesn’t make much sense when you’re aging ten times slower than a human being.

Yeah, I don’t know what to do about his voice. Oz’s performance changed drastically once he started doing soley voiceover work for the CGI Yoda.

I’m with you on removing Dual of the Fates. It’s already gone and replaced with something I quite like! Although, I’m not ready to show it yet…
