[SPOILER WARNING] Halloween: Forty Years Later - H18 & KILLS Combination Cut (WIP)

Hey everyone! I posted this topic on FE.org and figured I’d post it here too, the link to the forum post will be below.

The Idea:

Edit Halloween 2018, and Halloween Kills together to create a long epic. The estimated runtime could be between 2hr 30min and 4hrs.

Adding Halloween Ends is questionable because of the recent changes made to the film that DGG (David Gordon Green) mentioned at the Kills premiere. If it is possible to combine Ends, then we’ll see how it goes.

I will do the narrative in parts:

PROLOGUE
PART I - MASKS AND GROTESQUE FIGURES
PART II - THE HOMECOMING
PART III - DEMONS TORMENTING ME
PART IV - RETRIBUTION

The Cut-List:

2018 will be reconstructed to follow the original screenplay and tightened to remove cringeworthy moments pick up the pace in scenes when needed. Here’s a rough cut list of the Prologue and 1st part [BEWARE! There are SPOILERS A-foot!]

PROLOGUE

• Kills’ 1978 flashback is the opening, with dialogue from 1978 over the opening credits
• New opening titles ('18s with Forty Years Later tag)
• '18s opening scene at Smith’s Grove, removing ADR lines “He can speak, just chooses not to,” & “He’s been watching you since you arrived.”
• After “Say Something”, smash to another title card

PART I - MASKS AND GROTESQUE FIGURES

• After the title card, cut to Ray, Karen & Allyson’s introduction, leading into her friends walking down the street
• Pumpkin explodes, match-cut to Laurie in her compound (DELETED SCENE)
• Crosscut with Dana and Aaron driving, with his speech, overtop of Laurie footage
• Laurie cleans her guns, Russian roulette moment, then they ring the buzzer
• After the interview, cut to the school scene with Cameron and Allyson
• After Laurie and Allyson’s talk, Prison Montage (will have to remove the Laurie footage)
• Dinner scene, then bus crash scene after
• After the kid’s death, back to Karen and Allyson
• Hawkins investigating the crash site goes as normal
• Add deleted scene of Allyson jogging
• Cut to Laurie’s house afterwards
• Cut to Cemetary scene after
• Keep Hawkins and Barker scene where it is (Unsure)
• Minor trims to the Gas station fight
• Remove the scene in Karen’s house and replace it with the deleted school scene (Unsure)

That’s all I have for now. Looking forward to hearing everybody’s opinions and some help on making this edit a reality. This has been in my head for years and can’t wait to make it real.

I haven’t watched Kills yet but I’m very interested in seeing this when it’s finished!

I played around with this a bit. I’m not very skilled so it’s just a rough edit. It’s just some cutting and splicing for my own enjoyment. Nothing polished for others to see. Moving scenes around. Just sharing my ideas for anyone more skilled to take a stab at. I took about 20 minutes of Halloween 2 and added it to the original. Some of Loomis and the sheriff. Laurie going to the hospital. Michael stealing the knife from the old couple and killing the teen girl. And the finding of the other bodies. Then after that I added in the flashback from Kills so the original ends with Michael being caught. Then I moved a couple of scenes in Kills into the timeline of 18. Tommy Doyle at the bar scene cuts to the dance. Just to tie the timelines together. The end is a 2 hour version of the original and a 3 hour version of the two recent movies. So they operate as one movie about the first attack and the second movie is about the second attack. I’ve heard Ends is set years later (present day, not 2018) so it will most likely work as a final night of attacks. So in theory, it will be one movie for each of the three Halloween nights. Just playing around with it for now as I’ll have to wait and see what Ends adds to the story.

So, having just watched HK… I was severely disappointed with it. But the most disappointing thing about it was how I felt like it didn’t really deserve to be a stand alone movie. It really just felt like an epilogue to 2018 before we get Ends.

Needless to say, I’m very interested in seeing this project unfold. I think this edit along with 1978 and Ends could make a nice little trilogy of films.
