I haven’t even seen it yet, but if it’s anything like Rogue One, I can already guess that trimming and cutting the excessive fan service and cameos would improve the film.

I think i made this thread to early!

It’s never too early.
All I can hope is that there’s lots of deleted scenes on the Blu-Ray, but because the behind the scenes drama here is similar to Rogue One’s I’m not holding out on much hope.
First things I noticed:
Remove opening and “unneeded” text
(A long time… straight to the action)
Trim slug lady at the beginning to have less humor
Recut so Han says his name is “Han Solo” not just Han
Trim overly quippy dialogue from Han throughout the film
If possible, remove Chewie subtitles, we never needed them before and we don’t need them to make the scenes work
Keep, but trim down L3 politics… god some of them were “forced” 😉
Trim over-the-top space monster moments
Cut it so as soon as Beckett goes towards his gun Han shoots him
The Star Wars Saga:
I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX | Rogue One · Solo
What was first just a dream has become a frightening reality…
This is the most uninteresting SW film by FAR. There was a good amount of unfunny/badly delivered lines that I felt if stripped could streamline the narrative and strenghten the characters.
The first act was very clunky. Things started happening to Han before the movie gave us a chance to care. Same with many other characters.
Han was too goofy at times. Lando felt completely off. I felt they made him somewhat unlikable and had way too much fun at his expense. Beckett was just Woody Harrelson and the twist with him at the end is the most predictable twist in the history of twists. The worst part about that is how the music played dramatically when he entered the room to reveal HE was the traitor. No shit!
As opposed to other Star Wars edits I don’t really see people cutting whole scenes out because the pace is so fast already. I think people will just end up cutting out lines and bad performance and we’ll just basically have polished versions of this movie. But beyond that, unless they release a lot of deleted scenes (which Ik they won’t) I’m not sure how this film can be aided by fan’s scissors.
Easiest fan edit ever: cut the Maul scene entirely. You’ve just made the film ten times better!
There are certainly other things that could be done too, of course. Some of the beginning could be trimmed up. Don’t know how necessary that text at the start was (at least tighten it up) and definitely find away around the “Solo” scene.
I would replace about half of the film’s score with john williams.

Weird, considering how much Williams is already there.
Then 20%

I would only do the following:

Mate, this isn’t the ‘Solo review and opinion’ thread.
If you found the film uninteresting then say so - and maybe suggest some ideas for making it more interesting; highlighting and correcting those issues you have.
If you found some of the first act clunky, explain why - and maybe suggest or ask for a few thoughts on how to tighten it up.
And so on…
A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Enjoyed the film a lot more than I thought I would.
That being said I have a few personal issues I’ll address in my own eventual fan edit when the movie hits home media.
Get rid of the opening text after “A Long Time Ago…”, it really isn’t needed and feels a bit clunky.
Tone down the amount of shots of the golden dice. We get it. TLJ reference. Don’t need to show us every five minutes.
Not sure about how Han got his last name, I’m a bit 50/50 at the moment, will probably decide after thinking on it.
L3-37. Yuck. Trim her dialogue so all the droid rights talk is still in there, but chuck all the extremely forced political commentary; the fact that my entire theatre groaned through most of her lines and a couple people cheered when she died is something I don’t think the filmmakers really intended.
This includes getting rid of the weird robot sex implied between her and Lando… Just no.
The Wookie scenes in the prison breakout seemed a bit unclear and unresolved in the grand scheme of Chewie’s arc. Not sure about some of these, will need to watch the film again before deciding.
Maul is gone. Talk about next level pandering.
Other than that I’m actually really happy with the film. I was extremely burned out after TLJ and expected the worst but I was pleasantly surprised. Not amazing, but definitely what I’d call good.

How I’ve gone this many years without noticing that is embarrassing.
I stand corrected.
L3 easily got the most laughs at my screening. Great character, wouldn’t cut a frame.
I think that the movie’s editing is perfect as is. If there are deleted scenes, that might change.
Great character
“Character” 🙄
I’m curious as to what remains of the original cut, though I suppose the likelihood of finding out is probably on par with getting the original RO cut
Ryan-SWI: “poster”
becuase i can’t post this in prequel redux becuase spoilers can we use the darth mual scene in revenge of the sith as a end credit scene and use brothers and revenge as the side plot in revenge of the sith

Really ? It’s the only good scene of the entire flick 😄

Do you actually think that? It’s soooooooooo bad.
Imagine what I think about the rest of the movie then 😦
