SDCC news - OUT "quite likely" on Blu-ray — Page 4

I was only there one day, but it was pretty good. Unfortunately the "important" panels (Kathleen Kennedy, Carrie Fisher) were pretty much scripted. Other panels (Ben Burtt, Doug Chiang) were open for audience questions (and really informative - especially Burtt showing some of his private Super8 films from the making of the movies, including going through the landfill behind Elstree, where he showed stuff like the trashed Falcon and even stumbling across a wall from The Well of Souls).

I was afraid of that. That's how it was at CV. My favorite panel there was with Robert Watts. He was filled with all kinds of awesome stories.

I hope someone filmed that panel, it sounds awesome.

Definitely something to keep an eye on - but I doubt it contains the OUT. There would be much more fanfare me thinks. Looks like the only difference will be that it's a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

Given the changes made to the Blu Ray versions, I wonder what's on the DVD's?

Interesting, doubt it's the OUT, but one can dream.  Though will the discs feature new menus and such, specifically the DVD's?  I'd find it hard to see them repackaging the 2004 DVD's.

If they showed those deleted scenes on the big screen, they were probably at better quality than just 360p YouTube videos, which I assumed for the new material. Well, they still can downconvert it for the e-books...

It's probably the newest version on its own DVD. A lot of young kids watch regular DVD, so this makes sense. After all, there's a whole new generation that needs to be utterly bullshitted about what a 35 year old movie looks like.

This being just a Fox thing I'd bet the DVD is from 2004.

Yeah, this being a Fox release I wouldn't at all be surprised if it's just a repackaging of currently pressed versions of the Blu-Ray bundled with the 2004 DVDs. Fox loves to repackage shit in all kinds of different configurations.

But they are rereleasing the prequels too, so I would doubt the same discs.  they're not going to keep the creepy yoda puppet right beside the cgi one?  The TPM bluray is way different than the original theatrical.  Plus numerous changes to the OT were made in the 2011 release, that I doubt they would have to blatantly different versions of the films.

If anything, they'll be the 2011 on DVD, unless we find out otherwise.

So I guess this is just some pointless repack?

Did anybody ever find out what disc of SW was in that mammoth Fox 75th anniversary box set?

Probably just a repackaging of the 2004 discs. Hopefully FOX are trying to cash in one last time before Disney buy it from them to release the OOT, but I probably have a better chance of marrying a supermodel, but hey, one can dream

And the prequel box is not even the 3D versions of those... so you can prepare yourself for ANOTHER 3D box set next year, IMO.

That'll be so low-rent if the DVDs are 2004. Besides, it was always part of the original artistic vision that sand people are afraid of Little Richard, how can we, as a society, go back to the days before that.

Now I wanna see Obi-Wan scare off the sand people with a rendition of "Long Tall Sally".

Don't forget to mention that in Frink's Ridiculous Hope thread then! ;)

Presumably a DVD version of the changes made to the BR edition for the 9 people interested. Even if it is the OOT, which of course it isn't, It's still not a Blu-Ray release anyway.

My thoughts exactly, more revisionist history to further the successful campaign to let more people see the vile SE versions.

At this point, an OOT release isn't so much a matter of "if" but "when" and "how" and "what." How will they go about restoring it? Will they include the '97 version for completionism's sake? What about the prequels? Will they now be stuck in their revised form on blu-ray while the OOT remains available?? What about the "official" version of the OT? Will it be re-scanned or will the lowry master linger on even longer?
