Hello everyone I am new to the forums here but not new to despecialized editions. I was wondering what the Rough Release Dates for TESB despecialized edition 2.5 abd ROTJ despecialized edition 2.5 are?? It dose not have to be very precise just an estimate.

Thanks

Estimated release dates for the DeEd’s are an inside joke here. One estimate provided from Harmy himself was over a year off. So, in short, you’re not going to get accurate estimates, except maybe a few hours before the actual release you might have a shot.

Now, if you’re not satisfied with that, I can provide you with some wildly inaccurate estimates based on my patented Predicto-Vision method. ROTJ DeEd 2.0 will be released 3/14/2016 at about 3pm UTC, ESB DeEd 2.5 will be released 11/26/2016 at about 10am UTC, and ROTJ DeEd 2.5 will be released 6/2/2017, completely coincidentally also at about 10am UTC.

Yes, yes - to Catbus you listen.

In all seriousness, a stickied thread with current estimated release dates of projects would be nice to see. Even if the answer reported there is “Unknown” or “Unlikely for 2016” or “Project on Hiatus”.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Didn’t Harmy say in his recent YouTube video that he expects to be done fairly soon with ROTJ? He said he’s waiting on 35mm print scans for the relevant shots in the movie.

Also, this is as good a place to ask this. Are all of the most recent versions of the De-EDs stuck at 720p or are the first and/or second movies now in 1080? I feel like I’ve heard conflicting stories on this.

Okay, then the person who was telling me something to the contrary about the first and possibly second movie didn’t know what he was talking about. No biggie.

I am curious though why they aren’t full 1080.

Does Harmy just prefer to avoid copyright entanglements or is there some technical reason?

They are all 720p. As long as Harmy’s primary source is the 2011 Blu-rays, there’s not much point in doing a higher-res version, since the Blu-rays don’t have any real detail above 720p beyond sharpening artifacts. If someday a better-quality SE release comes out (e.g. the rumored Reliance Media 4K scan), that might open the door to 1080p versions, but the problem is that all the despecialized shots would need to be re-despecialized from scratch–a major undertaking.

In the much more likely scenario that a better-quality fan preservation based on a film scan comes out, Harmy’s been fairly candid that there’s no need to despecialize something that’s not SE to begin with, so he wouldn’t see the need to do anything at all with it. I’d personally see a benefit from mixing in a few extra frames from another source at the reel changes to get it GOUT-synced (and thus have access to all our audio tracks), but a lot more people would be capable of doing that than just Harmy.
