I created this website where I'll put Star Wars related pictures I'll be taking this week (well, mostly wednesday). I've taken pictures of all the Darth Vaders I could spot today. I expect to put some pictures of the opening day by thursday night.

Local Burger King. I didn't want to eat the "happy meal" thingy, so I asked "pleeeease pleease give me a toy", and she thought I was some sort of a lunatic who escaped from the mental house, so in order to avoid confronting me she just gave me the Vader one and asked me not to tell anyone. Well... I think I'm broking my promise now, eh?

If I had a crazed Brazilian come up to me and start begging for a Happy Meal toy I'd give it to him too.

Usually, you can just pay a little extra money and they'll give you the toy without having to buy the Happy Meal/Kid's Meal/etc.

OK, it has been only 7 hours since the movie ended, I've slept for only 3 hours (I don't feel as bad as I thought I would), and here I am to give my notes on the film.

The first 20 minutes are very, very good. The first take, a 1-2 minutes long shot with no cuts, following Anakin's ship, was quite impressive, even though the battle was kinda confusing, too much things going on at the same time. Suddenly, they get into Grievious ship, the music stop, and some good Star Wars action begins. Elevators, gags that actually worked, a good cameo by Dooku, all to the landing of the ship, the movie looked great. Could it be? Could episode 3 be as good as the OT?

No. Suddenly, the movie comes to a sudden stop. The characters seem lost. Palpatine's decieving Anakin feels almost humorous. The movie feels rushed and boring AT THE SAME TIME! And suddenly, after a very disapointing fight with Grievious, and a very disapointing Mace Windu death, Anakin decides to "surrender" to Palpatine! What?!

Palpatine's voice seems to be changing on every single take... The Jedi's death was a bit surprising to me ("plan 66"? like that ed wood film?), I liked it, the clones betraying them. And then there's the Yoda fight - Palpatine is now looking like an "Animaniacs" villain! Padme's pregnancy seems rushed, was she like, 3 months pregnant? Obi-Wan's fight with Anakin was merely OK, although I enjoyed the final dialogue and seeing Anakin being toasted.

And when Anakin gets his suit, suddenly GL wants to end the film as SOON AS POSSIBLE! vader screaming "nooooo...!" felt like J.E.Jones WORST moment, you could FEEL he didn't care. And then, the final moment... Yoda talks to Obi-Wan about a Jedi who learned to retain his form after death, Qui Gon! So I was expecting Liam Neeson to make a cameo and explain everything. So, they cut to C3PO, and the... what?! Is it over?! NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED TO THE AUDIENCE! So, is that GL final "F*** YOU!" to his audience? His final joke? *sigh*

The twins are born, and Padme suddenly gives up and dies. She "gave up living"? What? This is Star Wars, they can make a cyborg such as Vader and can't keep a woman from dying at labor? And then, the film ends abruptly, with so many questions unanswered, with so much left loose...

The CGI was not that bad, but distracting - what was that Palpatine Matrix jump? The soundtrack was not impresive, with absolutely nothing new or with impact. Jonh Williams didn't care too...

Is it a bad film? No. It is watchable, it is enjoyable, the acting was not that bad (specially by Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman), it was entertaining and yes, better than AOTC. It's a movie I feel that non-SW fans can watch and possibly enjoy. the dialogue was not that painful, and even though it was rushed, you could feel GL tried...

BTW, here are some pics. http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/ricarleite/starwars/english.htm

Good point about the rushed pregnancy. There didn't seem to be any time frame displayed at all. Maybe the whole movie spanned 9 months?

Not showing Qui Gon was a mistake. That would have been an integral part of the movie.

I don't think the pregnancy was rushed. She revealed to him that she was pregnant when he returned after saving the Chancellor. But they also both said it had been a long time since they had been together and that it would have been even longer if he hadn't gone on this mission to save Palpatine. So, obviously, the conception happened during their last meeting which could have been any amount of time prior up to nine months taking into consideration that humans in this galaxy far, far away have a nine-month pregnancy term. Who really knows. She was showing when they met up by the landing platform.

Well, she didn't seem to be 5 or 6 months pregnant at all, not for someone carrying twins. It was more like 2 months. And then she delivers two huge twins which were obviously born at a 9 month pregancy. What gives? Well, probably the movie spans about 6 or 7 months.

And don't they have ultra-sonography in SW? She discovered she had twins at labor? And she DIES? What was that, they have a 1940s technology for delivering babies?

And you also have to remember that they are in an alternate galaxy. Who's to say that a month to them is the same as it is to us. Yes, her stomach may have been a bit small, but oh well.

So she dies. Bodies shut down sometimes. Losing the will is one explanation. But there are other possibilities the likes of which science even in a galaxy far, far away may not be able to explain. Just accept it and move on. No reason to jack yourself mentally over it. I can think of far worse things to worry about in the SW movies than that.

Even if they don't have the equivalent of "months", I think that humans in the SW universe still have to wait the equivalent to nine Earth months. Unless the humans are not that humans, and they have a 3 or 4 months gestation.

Ric, you do not look like what I thought you'd look like. For some reason, I always thought you had red hair and a tattoo over your left eye. I can't imagine what gave me that idea. . .

LOL, what, my "Gaara" avatar? Well I don't know, I could dye my hair and tatoo the kanji "love" on my forehead, but it could be weird.

I've posted some pictures of me before.

Where the lines that big for Black Orpheus when it came out?
"Drink the Kool-Aid. Wear blinders. Cover your ears. Because that's the only way you can totally enjoy Revenge of the Sith -- the final and most futile attempt from skilled producer, clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed twenty-eight years ago. Fan boys, of course, have convinced themselves otherwise. So have several critics, if you go by early reviews."
