Was it the TPM Jabba? It certainly doesn't look like it. I have always tended to prefer the 1997 model, and maybe it is because of the animation like you said.

Even though I'm not really interested in the added scene, you know redundant redundancy and all that... I wonder how come, in this day and age of amazing stop motion puppetry on Youtube (there's a guy called Patrick Boivin that makes all sorts of neat videos like this ) no one has actually tried to insert a stop motion puppet in the scene. I would love to see a fan attempt at that.

It would have to completely cover the CGI, as a complete version of the untouched footage was never released. Even if you had a print of the Star Wars to Jedi doc, it only had a few seconds of Human Jabba.

I'd watch it in any quality as long as we don't have the original plate. I've seen the entire scene on youtube pieced together from various sources and I know, it's jumpy, noisy and really not very good from a visual standpoint. But hey, why not create a mockup out of that, if that is all that's available? It would be interesting. At least imho.

The problem is that all footage of the original plate comes from 1980s and 1990s videotapes, and even then it is only part of the scene and sometimes not widescreen. Making a really good stop-motion insert would probably be seen as far too much work for such a low-quality final product. The option of rotoscoping over the CG model would probably be a better option, though you'd still have the problem of making sure the new model totally covered up the old one which could get tricky at times.

I understand. After all, like you wrote, the scene was never shot with any regard for visual effects. And I just realized, even if one were to insert a better looking Jabba in the SE plate, we'd still have Han jumping like Mario in the original Donkey Kong game, wouldn't we?

It's too bad the original footage wasn't included with all those cut scenes on the Blu Rays. Kind of a glaring omission.
