I’m so psyched that there’s more to come for the NCC. It’s the ROTS edit I come back to most of all, and I’m still so grateful that NFBisms sent me some of his clips for my own ROTS edit back when I made that.

Also, yes, Coaxium Bebop please

NFBisms, if you can answer that: you plan to work on the conversation between Anakin and Obi-wan before they fight? I saw your edit and really liked that you changed it to something more personal, although the dialogue between them seemed a bit unpolished for me. But still in the right direction, better than the original movie!

The original dialogue presented in the theatrical version is pretty stupid, in my opinion (my pupil and best friend is going to the dark side and I talk about… republic and democracy… duh).

I understand that edit that part must be really hard, but it would be so good to see a more emotional conversation between the two, as if we were really seeing the end of a friendship in that moment (with Obi-wan really trying to help his brother).

I love the way he did the convo before anakin and obi wan fight. The one line that sticks out is “anakin, face up to what you’ve done”. I just can’t believably buy that as Ewan Mcgregor. I wish it did, cause Anakin’s response of “Don’t ask me to do that” pulled from earlier in the movie works perfectly.

The back and forth of “What did you tell her?” “The truth” is AWESOME. I love how Obi wan kneels down to look at Padme as he says his response.

How’s the edit coming along, NFBisms? 😃

Hey NFBisms!

The scene that was moved from being after Anakin’s assault on the temple to before, with him talking to Padme, had a small issue with the newly added dialogue (“I’m fine, I’m fine, I came to see if you and the baby were alright” not being synced to Anakin’s lack of mouth movements.

Outside of having movements added to his mouth through talented VFX work that is beyond my skill, the next best option is cutting around the moments that lack sync, so I tried doing just that.

Let me know what you think of the rough concept shown below. This reordering of scenes is one of the strongest points of your fanedit’s narrative so getting it as technically sound as possible is of much interest to me. I think if the idea show below doesn’t work that there are easily some other approaches to take in removing Padme’s lines about the Jedi temple attack.

I wonder how feasible it would be to use the new-fangled voice AI thing to replace HCs voice with a ML voice trained from TCW. It’s not that I particularly have a problem with HCs voice, but the difference between the two Anakin’s is far more significant than any other characters between the films and TCW (well, other than the Clones).

A lot of the pleasure of this for me was scavenging appropriate HC clips and finding ways to incorporate them. That was fun and creative in a way that I enjoy. I also wanted to let his [potential] performance shine as much as possible, “prove” that he could probably convincingly pass as the same archetype if given the material and direction to do so. Even if I were to generate new fake Hayden lines, there’s something about knowing he never said or performed them that takes away from that premise.

Idk, I’ve been a little iffy about AI in these spaces, at least for myself personally. I think it’s exciting and cool to watch for other editors but not really anything I would find any fulfillment from. Maybe that changes with another idea I have down the line, but it’s so counter to what made this particular edit fun for me.

To answer the question about feasibility, it is possible, I’ve played around with it already. Just not interested

I will re-release the edit a little more polished soon like I said a few months ago, though. I think if anything, this AI stuff has given me a great out to stop thinking about this edit as ongoing

I think the ai voice thing will make workable one day. I mean technically it already has with Vader in the Kenobi series. I couldn’t remotely tell that was ai.

Oh I’m sure. I think it’s like 85% there already anyway. I’m just don’t have a creative itch for its use.

I will say, something that does entice me about using AI in edits is the problem solving of making specific models to blend to a scene. So far, in threads like Hal’s Ascendant, everyone is focused on training models based on clean, high quality audio[book] sources. And while that’s ElevenLab’s best practice suggestion, that’s based on the hypothetical commercial use they’re leveraging for. If you’re trying to get a new line to blend perfectly, to emulate the background noise and quality of a specific vocal clip - the AI will do that at a certain clarity. Those are the imperfections or incomplete data for a model that’s meant to be a holistic replacement for a voice actor, but IMO has worked perfectly in my private tests for blending a new line to a specific scene.

It’s a coherent request to make of an algorithm to generate an alternate Star Wars Episode III which meet certain criteria, from scratch. You just need a shit-ton of information to input for it to complete its “this is to this and that is to that” math. Maybe someday computers will get there, centuries down the road.

Would such a thing be a fan edit? I don’t know. But the AI voices might be a missing link to enable possibilities in fan editing to let editors get over pesky hurdles about a character’s existing bits and pieces of dialogue not allowing something to be done. Analogous to being able to have the actors come back in to record pickup lines. Think Tarkin answering the phone at his Death Star desk a few times in the movie, and an officer delivering exposition to him.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Well, the email updates for this thread apparently stopped going to me about two years ago, but I’m really psyched to see that it goes on, NFBisms! Sign me up for whenever you have something ready!

Really hope this project makes it, it has some of the most creative choices I’ve seen with a lot of thought put into it.

I like you, let us burn things together.

NFBisms please continue working on this, your edit is the best version of episode 3.

Hello there NFBIsms, I really like what you did with the Obiwan’s reaction scene, the addition of the jedi padawans’ screams and the low frequency sound effect really help to sell the impact! I would like to incorporate this idea to my personal fanedit (which is in spanish dub). May I ask, where does the audio for the jedi padawans’ screams come from?
I really can’t find other audio clips that are suitable for the scene 😦. Thanks in advance!

Genuinely so long ago I don’t remember, unfortunately. The version of NCC I have on my drive right now doesn’t even have the padawan screams anymore.

If any of you could PM me with links to any older versions of this edit, that would actually be super helpful! I was remaking this earlier this year and am going to get back to it eventually, but I realize across everyone who’s ever asked, is like 16 versions. I was happy with it somewhere around 10 and 14, probably; like three laptops and a few hard drives ago. And even, only some unmade combination thereof would have been the ideal bow

When I get back into it, I would want to stick close to the one people are probably talking about when they say “NFBisms’ New Canon Cut”

NFBisms, I’m doing an edit of ROTS where one of Anakin’s motivations is that he craves the power of immortality. I’m hiring a Palpatine voice actor (who’s done work for Star Wars Story in the past) to do new Palpatine lines to integrate this idea. I’m also rearranging scenes so for example the opera scene (with some changed dialogue) comes before the nightmare about Padme’s death (showing Anakin’s intrigued by the prospect of cheating death even before), and Palpatine isn’t even gonna know about the nightmare.

I don’t have the Palpatine lines yet (I need some time to make money after the holidays) but once the edit is done, if your vision aligns with mine in that way, I’d be more then happy to allow you to use them.
