Idea: Revenge of the Sith: Extended Edition

 (Edited)

This is a bit of an unusual way to start a thread, since I won’t be the one that actually is doing the editing. After losing about 3 weeks worth of rotoscoping frame by frame lightsabers in ESB, I’ve given up on editing.

However, I would love to see a Revenge of the Sith Extended edition made on a dual layer DVD.

I know there are people that are prepared to do fan edits and such, but I don’t really want a version that changes the plot so much as re-inserts the deleted scenes and shots. Of course, some editing is going to be needed to bridge in the music and to choose wipes to be used. Sometimes there may be redundant dialogue and would also cause some editing to be needed.

A short list:
Shaak Ti killed by Grievous
Dooku’s line of “Just because there are two of you, don’t think you have the advantage” before the duel
Rebellion meeting in Bail’s office
Rebellion meeting in Padme’s apartment
Rebellion confront Palpatine
A Plot to destroy the Jedi
The Emperor’s shuttle approaching the planet
Exiled to Dagobah

Those are the list of deleted scenes that we will have in DVD quality that can be re-inserted.

I’m hoping one of our fine editors on this site can make this a possibilty. I know I would certainly be willing wink wink to make a substaintal Paypal donation to that editor should the work be satisfactory.

What do you all think?

OK, I am flat out mad that the two VERY important and great scnenes: birth of the rebellion and yoda on dagobah wont be part of the movie on the official DVD. I was hoping someone would do this extended edition, because the Lucas guys have made VERY poor decisions in deleting and then not including these in the dvd of the movie. We can decide here on this thread which exactly scenes should be used in this edit.

I love how you put the blame on the "Lucas guys" and not on your King.

I asked this in the Episode 3 Fan Editing Discussion forum: Does anyone know why Liam Neeson didn't record his Qui-Gon scene?

Qui-Gon is my favorite character and his absence in such an essential scene really irked me.

Neeson wanted nothing to do with the series after the first film, and they tried to get him back for both AOTC and ROTS and refused. Burtt tried to do the V.O. work this second time around, they even had Oz try to mimic his voice. Nothing was right, so they scrapped it from the script.

Neeson wants nothing to do with LFL. Period.

That's because Star Wars (the original) was seen as a wonderful film, not just some sci-fi mega blockbuster. It's easier to get someone to come back to that rather than a film lauded for it's terrible use of childish props.

Liam did an excellent job in TPM, however, and it just doesn't seem he would hate Lucas that bad!

Hating him might have nothing to do with it. Neeson is classically trained, and I doubt very much he enjoyed working in front of a blue screen and being told that most of the scenes would be 'done in post'. Take Batman Begins for example. Very little was CGI'd. He was able to flex his acting skills in a real surrounding with the actors directly in front of him.

Alot of actors are particular about how they do films. Rex Harrison refused to redub his musical numbers in My Fair Lady because he had been trained to perform musicals live and felt he did each performance differently. He stood firm and they had to create a hidden mic for him that would be hidden in his collar so that his on set vocals would be recorded.

But this is WAY of topic, so I won't continue any further.

That's not the only problem; what about Yoda's dialogue? I doubt the scene will ever be released since without Qui-Gon it is incomplete. He's one of my favorite actors, and I am seriously dissapointed. Shame on him for not returning for would have taken him, what, five minutes maximum? What I really don't like is how everything was kept under the radar; the way it was handled in AotC was acceptable (although I still cringe at the "NO!"), but we were promised something much more extensive in RotS, with Lucas and Neeson both dropping hints he'd return. I can't believe something could not be worked out between them.

The "Birth of the Rebellion" scene is going to be on the DVD.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

The whole list with screenshots was posted at MF.

I really wish they would have completed the Shaak Ti scene. From the descriptions by DarthFirst over at MF, it sounds like LFL just wanted to get this set out there and be done with it. It stinks of a very-near-future double dip. I mean, I knew the double dips would come on the PT, but I just figured they would at least continue the quality of the first two movies' 2 disc releases. I knew it would be lackluster from the first announcement that Ling wasn't as involved on disc two this time out. And I don't like that reasoning of "there wasn't enough time this time". They had just as much time to get this disc together as they did for AOTC. The docs on this set sound crap. I never figured we would get another "The Beginning" (did Lucas not watch that thing before it got on the set?), but at least give us something quality. And unfinished deleted scenes?

Oh well... guess I should wait until I have turd in hand before I go "eeewwwwww....". And besides... me likes the shots of Yoda on Dagobah.

I'd PM him the link...I seem to recall the mods on here not being too fond of that place. But that was awhile ago, so who knows.
