Cutter! Great to see you back at it. I'm more of a visual person myself, but the audio changes you're making seem so awesome. I particularly love the explanatory videos you have made in the process (keep doing that ;))

I was just listening to that latest video you made...with the "She no longer has any meaning for me". I'm going to be picky, but it's just a suggestion meant in good will.

Is it possible to lengthen the "she" a little, or put some sort of pause between "she" and "no"? I realise the timing is the same as it was with the"IT no longer.." sentence, but somehow it sounds too much like "sheeno". A little more emphasis on "she" might convey a stronger conviction.

And I love the new score you've created!! OMG

I agree with Loconut. There needs to be more pause between "she" ad "no".

Could you use "your wife" like this:

- Vader rises.

- Palpatine: "your wife..."

- Shot of Vader turning to face him.

- Palpatine: "I'm afraid in your anger, you killed her."

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

-"Lord Vader, can you hear me?"

-"Yes master"

-"To cheat death is a power (...)"

- (Vader interrupts palpatine) "She no longer means anything to me master... now (...)"

Good idea but voices are not in the same tone, there is a too obvious difference between : "can you hear me" and "to cheat death"

The compatibility is an essential point to make a good audio cut.

It's not easy to mix voices from different scenes.

Have you already thought about the scene, where Anakin and Obi-Wan are meeting on Mustafar? I think it's one of the most screwed moments, even if it was very important for the plot. That scene is lacking pace and sense. Dialog is boring and the actors are behaving, like they were  talking about the weather. :) The most crucial moment is when Anakin is chocking Padme and Obi-Wan is going slowly down and saying slowly and boring "let her go". The music is good, but not in the Star Wars style. Do something about it :)

Yes I am working on this and it's a real pain in the ass...I love the music, but to cut this sequence I have to remove it. So I am working on a new original music that will change, I hope, the whole atmosphere of this scene. it will be darker, more "percussive".

Yes, I will correct this !

Unfortunatly, the " your wife..." is not in the same tone

Cutter here's a musical thought I had in the past. It's completely from ROTS OST, though the mix is rough, some things are in different tones. It tries to be an alternative to anywhere you need to generate tension and release it with Darth Vader's theme. I guess if you like it, you could make it into something more subtle, or even re write it with your own home orchestra (?).

(The link shows up with an icon of an .EXE file, though it's just a regular wav. I already downloaded it and had no trouble)

Hope you like it, or at least that it provides you some sort of inspiration for a new SW related musical piece you had in mind.

Thanks Gandalf

My new music is almost achieved (95%) and yes it include Vader's theme in a powerfull way, but little more subtile.

Music is 50% of the emotionnal experience...so, a good way to bring a new breath to what has been missed in the movie, and to fit perfectly with the sequence, is to create a new score.

with all the respect I have for Williams (for me the best composer )

How are you managing to keep out the existing music in your cuts? I'm very impressed!

In this case, I only work with the center track. It contain music in a lower level. Then you must recreate the sound FX. The new music and the new sound design, most often, will hide the remains of music in the center track.

Sometimes it is not enough, you have to use an EQ in the center track, to remove or decrease frequencies that contain the music, without altering too much the voice.

No kidding....

What do you use to work with audio?

And are tutorials too much to ask?

I wish there was a way of having Anakin lifting Padme higher as Obi-Wan shouts at him to let her go and then have him respond with "As you wish".

It would mirror Tarkin restraining Vader in ANH but it would add even more cruelty to Anakin and a more plausible explanation for her eventual death because of the long drop.

I think that's doable with heavy rotoscoping. As for the as you wish, well,  we're screwed there. But yes, I always liked the idea of Vaderizing anakin's gestures.

One idea I had was to make him stare at the space the same way Vader does all throughout ESB (if we got a scene of Anakin onboard a cruiser). But well, that scene doesn't exist, and the only thing that mirrors it is Anakin staring at the Naboo landscape when he dreams about his mother

Well, previous critiques aside about the video editing, this is looking much better now.  I LOVE the new Vader scene.  Maybe when this is released, you could have an option for an isolated score audio track!

Or simply an OST download, so I can listen to it on my ipod! ^^

funny things in your edit - you have to work audio transitions to make them more smooth

mrbenja0618 I am working with Sony Vegas and Headac3he (it allow you to extract the 5.1 channel separatly from the ac3 file, very easy to use)

look at 3.28 and 3.42

the cinematic is ugly but the direction is better than the movie...I saw this cinematic before seeing the film...and I was really disappointed...I thought we would see Anakin up the stairs slowly like he does in ROTJ...very good idea

A new musical vision for my "escape pod cut". For this sequence I wanted a new vision of the force theme, something powerfull and majestic to emphasize Anakin's heroic behavior.

I was mainly inspired by "Resolution and hyperspace" from Aliens soundtrack and the end of the track called "Return of the Jedi".

Glad you like the avatar, it was awesome meeting him again. :D

And yay, can't wait for the soundtrack.  Your latest creation sounds good (the escape pod one), but is that how the actual sequence is going to be?  It's very rushed and left me rather confused.  The music is great though.

And regarding the birth of the twins music with the Luke and Leia theme, try making it more subtle.  It's too prominent and cheerful right now.

this is the same cut I presented last year :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKSWqQ_ZEOM

it start at 6.32 with Anakin saying " R2, activates escape pods"

I looked for a way to extend this a bit, but in vain

all suggestions to improve it are welcome
