Revenge Of The Cut - Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith (* unfinished project *) — Page 23

Kinda cool.. But unnecessary to me. I would rather make the films rhyme by using the same methods of making a film that the OT applied. If that makes any sense.

Another idea from me:

Palpatine reveals himself

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUFptjizGXE

As always, it's a rough idea. My goal was to make Anakin more mature, show his shock about revelation and cut as many unnecessery dialogue as possible. Also I though it was necessery to cut everything about Padme, because generally this considered to be lame. Anakin is turning to the dark side, because he wants more power. Not because he wants to save his wife. In this video, I only wanted Palpatine to reveal himself step by step. Without begging Anakin to join him. He just wants that Anakin will think about him. Anakin doesn't kill him, because he knows him for too long. He is just shocked and does his Jedi responsibility - letting counsel to decide. He realizes later that the anger he felt, when he looked at Palpatine with his lightsaber is what he wants and what gives him power. I think less is sometimes more.

There are two things in this scene, which always bothered me - music and too much unnecessary dialoge. Considering limited amount of footage, with my poor technical editing skills, I was doing my best.

Some may wonder why I post it in this thread. Well, first of all, I'm trying to give the Cutter some inspiration. Second, I'm hoping that a little traffic will bring him back here :).

Not bad, but Palpatine shouldn't act that evil towards Anakin.

Why not? Palpatine is not a nice uncle. He is a Sith Lord for God's sake! With his final revelation, there is nothing more to hide.

In the original cut, he is a nice uncle at this point. But, a few hours later, he kills Jedi without any problems, gives order 66 and convert republic into galactic empire. This totally contradicts his character. Of course, you would say he was doing that to manipulate Anakin, so there is no contradiction in his character. The problem is, it makes Anakin dumb as wood. There is a Sith Lord standing before him, who has killed millions of people and he believe's that he is ok? How naive you have to be? This is exactly unbelievable like when Palpatine kills Windu and tells Anakin, that he does not have the power to save Padme. Of course Anakin does nothing and accept that, being a five year old naive child.

I agree. However, while this idea is interesting I fail to see how it would fix the above problem in the narrative.

The reason Anakin believes him to be ok in the original is because of how slowly Palpatine reveals himself.  If Palpatine acts cold and evil towards Anakin immediately, how in heck is he expecting Anakin to side with him (originally the point of the whole scene)?  You're forsaking the Dark Side seduction aspect for the sake of Palpatine acting evil.

Cutter, How are things progressing? I hope you haven't given up.
Hope to hear from you soon...

I got a PM from him a couple of weeks ago.  He says he's very busy, bu the hasn't given up.  Hopefully he comes back to the land of the living sometime soon.

You mean I'm still alive?

So I can go outside without melting?

Oh man!

Hope this edit reaches full completion. It really is interesting... especially the major dialogue and music changes, which some editors shirk away from.

Author

Indeed. I still hope Cutter will release his score as mp3s too.

His videos have disappeared from YouTube.  Hopefully he gets working again soon.  It would be a shame if all of his brilliant ideas were lost.  We really need to get a repository going of all the prequel edit videos.  This isn't the first time this has happened (e.g. SSWR's videos).

YouTube removed his videos. A guy too reported him to Youtube about his padme is still alive video.

He will continue this edit very later this year.

Good thing I downloaded all of his videos then!

You did?!  Then you must upload them at a safer place, like Vimeo!  I don't like it when brilliant ideas and their creators disappear.  I personally have corresponded with Cutter and he states he will return, but I'd hate for him to change his mind with no backup plan.

OK, good idea! I will do that as soon as possible.

Yeah, no problem. I can't wait for this edit to come out. I was going to use vimeo to upload the videos, but it wanted me to give explanations on why they shouldn't be deleted and bla bla bla.

The bit where Palpatine tells us what happened in act one needs to go too.

One assumes that Mace has already been briefed and we don't need to be.

I'd keep the bit about Grievous getting away again though (he would naturally moan about it and as a politician would want to be seen to be getting the job finished by leaning on the right people).

I'd drop Anakin using one of Han's lines. Probably the trembling reference. It just sounds too much like Star Wars quotes the greatest hits to have two right next to each other.

The music doesn't quite fit for the Grievous scene.

For one thing it's so obviously from a prominent OT scene that it's distracting.

The tone is right though if you can find something similar.

I'd remove the choral blasts though they are too push button.

Add instead a metallic thump (maybe like the percussive steps of the powerloaders from Aliens) in time with each footfall of the general.

Why not have Sidious tell the General that Lord Vader will soon join them?

He would already have the name in his head and he is a counting his chickens before they've hatched sort of guy as we find out in ROTJ.

You might be able to generate some sort of interest out of speculating who this Vader chap is going to be.
