You can tell I've been on this site for too long because I mentally processed "grades" as "colour grad[ing]." Oy.

Still kinda sorta holding out hope for some surprise unique mono mix.

Just turned in my grades - can start working on it again on Monday.

Awesome!

I was just watching Empire the other day. It's so nostalgic experiencing these films in 16mm in it's original form with the dirt and cigarette burns. Thanks again for your hard work!

Awesome news, eagerly awaiting watching the 16mm trilogy back-to-back-to-back!

Ok, I added the curved border.  It looks good with the anamorphic flag set.  However, I am having trouble getting either TMPGenc or MainConcept to get the framerate right.  It seems to be setting the pulldown flag, but the playback time doesn't change.  I'll experiment with my older computer and the older version of TMPGEnc, to see if the problem is with the newer version, or with the files that harmy got out of aftereffects.

Wait...is that faint lead in noise of Yub Nub I hear?

Congrats on nearing the finish. I've been waiting to do my big Mouse dropping Trilogy night.

Nice, I haven't watched RotJ for a while. I think I can wait a bit longer.

Is this going to be DVD9?

I still haven't solved the encode timing problem on my new computer, but I did an encode using TMPGEnc on my old computer and it worked fine.  So I'll go ahead and encode the remaining two reels on the old computer and proceed that way.

Ultimately I will need to solve this problem going forward, but for ROTP I should have the three reels encoded by tomorrow.  Then I can start putting together a "making of" clip, building the menu, and deciding what extra(s) to include.  It's going to be tough to top "The Maniac"  (that's still my favorite part of SK)  :)

As for the quality, as always, I hope that everyone will keep their expectations modest.  Although this print has very good color, it is also more scratched than the PSB print.  Also, because of the nature of ROTJ, finding an exposure setting that works on both the ultra-bright sand dune scenes, and the ultra-dark Jabba scenes, was virtually impossible.  As a result, there are more blown whites and crushed blacks in this film than in either PSB or PG.  I have always considered these preservations' role to be mainly to make them available for research, and I am happy that they have proven useful therein.  That some of you actually enjoy watching them still puzzles me a bit, but hey that's cool.

Hard to believe this project started 4 years ago.

I tried to minimize the impact of the over-exposure when doing the color correction but yeah, compared to the 35mm scans, this does have the issues Puggo describes. But the colors on this print are pretty nice over-all.

Good to hear your progress. We look forward to seeing it. And if we have time, we will enhance it, with clips, and cleanup.

You folks should have no trouble generating a considerably better replacement :)

Increasingly psyched for a complete mouse droppings trilogy.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Absolutely! 16mm prints are usually projected on walls or bedsheets outdoors so it's not as if we're in the wrong territory. I still can't quite explain it, but these just have that spark to them that really get me involved in the films again. Almost as if you've found such a rarity and are screening it for yourself.

Of course this comes from the same person whose best viewing of Psycho came from an open matte 16mm reduction projected onto a theater's outside wall.
