Return of the Jedi cut-scene — Page 4

Tobar has mentioned in the ESB:R thread that he actually saw the ROTJ clip at C5.

Tobar said:

Unfortunately, you can't tell from the youtube clips but the footage is actually kind of worn. It wasn't restored and looked quite aged.

If they had recreated the clip recently then surely it would have been restored? Vader walking down the corridor is definitely a cut shot from ROTJ as we have seen a few cut shots of that corridor plus it was seen in "Behind the Ewok". I don't think that the meditation shot was taken from an unused shot from ESB because it sure looks like the "super shiny" ROTJ helmet to me.

But also from this it looks like Lucasfilm aren't going to bother to restore the deleted scenes from the OT so god knows how bad the quality will be.

This scene was shot according to the making of return of the jedi book.

I hope the sandstorm scene is on there as well, maybe the vader trying to kill Jejjerod too.

The lightsaber construction scene is pretty awesome though is that the same saber as shot in Jambe's returning to jedi mark hamill is seen working on in that shot?

This scene made it into the radio drama and i think the shadows of the empire novelization but i might be wrong on that since i have not read it since 1996.

How much was deleted from empire strikes back in terms of footage.  All l know is there were a bunch of alternate takes and camera angles on some shots.  Other than the deleted wampa stuff.

And what about star wars lost cut that should be in as a bonus, but Lucas is too lazy so it won't be on the blu ray.  I do hope it includes the never released longest version of Empire of dreams.

I compared both yesterday by watching "Returning to Jedi". I'm positive is the same.

Thanks for exhuming that vile and ugly old phrase from the past, Sunday. We can have civil discussions and disagreements on this board without it.

I entirely agree.  The phrase is so extreme and unnecessary, and I find it more than a little disturbing.

I actually find it amusing.

Hmmmm....well, I honestly hope you never have any reason to change your mind.

My mate who owns the prop was very excited to see the deleted scene. But as he said, there is no way to see if it is that prop.  Maybe there were tighter shots that were unused.

Would you rather them restore the scenes?  No doubt Lucas would have a ronto walk infront of Biggs and Luke as they talked of joining the rebellion if LFL did any work on the scenes.  If they are just releasing a raw capture, maybe we can do something with them.

The pictures below are further proof that it is, indeed, Mark Hamill.  The chin and what is seen of the nose is a perfect match.

If Mark says he shot the scene, (and unless someone on the film crew comes forward to say otherwise) we just have to take his word for it.

If they had told us it was the severed head from Empire, (made from a cast of Hamill's head.) I would have found that plausible too, as they did use a puppet head of Harrison Ford for the thawing out scene in Jedi.

We're all so keenly aware of the nuts and bolts of the film making process, it's understandable to want to take this scene apart and identify it's component parts.

In the end, no matter how much trivia we know about these films, we have to defer to the people who were actually on the set once in a while.

I have that puppet head of Mark Hamill.  I use it all of the time when faking deleted scenes from Return of the Jedi*.

Yes; but deleted scenes are frequently released in the most appalling quality.  I have seen many that are so bad that -- even as someone who is always interested in seeing little moments, good or bad, in a film's development  -- they have been painful to watch.   Adywan is right.  There needs to be some form of minimal studio restoration if they are to stand any chance of being used in any form of fan-edit beyond one of Jambe's Davdar's excellent making-of documentaries.  If they are released in relatively good quality non-anamorphic widescreen with half-decent stereo audio, I will be pleasantly surprised...

I'd pretty much bet on them being 1080p.  This set is being made for blu-ray and that's the way everything is going to be mastered (aside from older documentaries, if included).

You are braver than I am if you take that bet!  In my experience, Blu-ray extras are rarely in 1080p - theatrical trailers sometimes are if you are lucky, but more often than not they are in SD.

That's typically for films that were originally released on DVD.  They just re-use the extras.

I would assume this will be something different.

Well, all the Star Wars films were released on DVD, so I fully expect the extras to be re-used and some new ones added.  I hope you are right, but I would not assume anything.

I'm well aware of that.  However, these are NEW extras being created specifically for the blu-ray release.  There's a difference.

Well you brought it up as if to draw a distinction between this BD release and others, which I fail to see.  We all know they are new extras.  I am just doubtful as to the quality that they will be released in, based on past experience.

Hi, everyone, this is my first post here.

Today, Luca$ announced formally the SW Blu-Ray boxset, the best the movies have ever looked!!! (yeah, right).

Anyway, he showed this gem though:

Ahh! It's been taken down by the Evil Empire.

Ok. So tell us...what recent release of a film has only included 480i material on a blu-ray even though it was the first release for such a film?

I'm fully prepared to admit that I'm wrong.  I'm just curious what you're comparing this release to.

It is not the first release for these films.  I have rarely come across films that have previously been released on DVD that have had many HD extras, and I have rarely if ever seen HD deleted scenes.

 oh god.

Look...these are SPECIFICALLY being prepared for a blu-ray release.  Thus, it is their first release.  Make sense?

We're both saying the same thing. You're just not reading properly.

I never said anything of the kind.

Anyway, it was nice to see the scene.  Let us hope it is in good quality on the BD and move on.
