It would be nice to have a <5gb or multipart file option so that Mega would work.

Shouldn’t you just be able to use winzip, winrar or 7zip to split it up into multiple files? This might help also in producing a larger video file if darthrush has the ability to produce a higher quality one (having read earlier that the quality seems a bit lacking when compared to other edits)?

What I’m saying is that with Mega’s new (since August) 5gb cap, any file larger than that is unavailable unless you’re a paying customer. I just wanted to let him know so he might split the file into parts, since I’d be unable to get this edit otherwise.

Yeah I’m aware of the 5gb limit which you can get around by simply restarting your modem / router and resuming your download (I believe you need to have the mega app installed). I’m no longer a paying member of mega and have just downloaded two 8gb single file fanedits with a third one of the same size on the way (the new PT Proxy edits). I did of course get the prompt to purchase a plan each time I reach the 5gb limit, I just exit the mega app though, restart my router and then reopen the app once I get my internet connection back and the download resumes as you get a new IP address from your ISP upon modem restart.

There are other ways to accomplish the same thing but as you suggested, making the file multi part also helps in this scenario which I was just saying you should be able to do this with one of the mentioned programs (more so for the OP’s information if they weren’t aware).

I replied to that review and made it clear that I encoded Harmy’s source work straight to a high-bitrate 1080p digital copy that looks great on the tv. I compared it to popular edits and it has much better video quality than the Dan Edit, the Spence Edit’s, the Ziggy edit, and equal/slightly better than Q2’s video quality. It’s not a full blu ray copy, but it has no problems in the technical visual specs.

Ah glad to hear, I haven’t had a chance to read right through the thread yet and missed that sorry.

What were your thoughts regarding my request on the previous page?

Everyone should also know that the free program “Megadownloader” bypasses the 5 GB limit quite easily. Just plug the mega link into the program, choose your download location, and your on your way!

I take it this is a different program from the official app?

According to this, you now have to use a VPN to get around the 5gb limit, and this works with the unofficial program Megadownloader and the official app MegaSync. Is this right?

Anyway, I just finished watching this edit, and it’s quite good!
There are some audio level issues, such as when it goes quiet at around the halfway mark and returns after Vader dies. Other than that, very nice!

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Darthrush … I would update your original post to remove a certain website link if I was you.

Till recently the thought of OT fanedits has never entered my mind and they still never will for ANH and TESB. However, being part of this community for a while now has made me realise that ROTJ could possibly use some tweaking here and there to as you say, strengthen it in view of the other two movies.

Your edit sounds very interesting, especially with the fact you used Harmy’s DSE as the base for 95% of it. My only gripes that make me reluctant to watch it though are:

  • You left in the CGI creatures in Jabba’s palace despite removing Jedi Rocks. Never had a problem with the original scene nor Nappti Lek.

  • You kept the SE ending and music. It’s not one of my most hated changes by GL but it’s still up there with most of the big ones as it completely messes with how I feel at the end of the last SW movie (till Ep7:TFA came along anyway but ROTJ will always feel like the closer on the OT with TFA starting the next trilogy).

I don’t know if it’s to much to ask, but would you consider making a 100% DSE edition of your edit or at least revert the above matters to their DSE versions in an alternate edit?

It’s Lapti Nek, not Nappti Lek.

Didn’t know that you had to use a VPN for such a thing. I am also very curious where you saw the audio specifically goes quiet so I can take a look. I have never been able to find evidence of such an error.

Someone on the Fanedit forums also mentioned the problem, and there are several places where it feels quiet. The first is Ben’s scene, where I had to crank up the volume to hear the additional music and the voices. Then it goes quiet after 3PO’s storytime, and I think it only returns as the fighters enter the superstructure.

LMAO!!

I thought “Nappti Lek” didn’t quite sound right but it wasn’t a big enough itch to make me double check my muddled memory. Thanks for the correction XD

Yes he did, don’t worry. It’s all based on the theatrical version except for the very ending.

It’s actually stitched-in with the blu-ray due to the unnatural colors. The only parts that were left in is some Endor scenes, the entire Sarlacc Pit fight and that’s about it.

Actually the main source was Harmy’s despecialized edition. Only time the blu ray was used if I recall were the following scenes:

-Most of the Rancor scene (updated effects)
-Rebel briefing scene
-Ending celebration

I just watched your edit Darthrush, and it was for the most part fantastic! All edits are seamless, the Ewoks aren’t completely terrible, and Han doesn’t come across as a bitch! You’ve done a really great job!

However, I would like to share my opinions on a few things in your edit, even though you’ve said you’re not making more changes. Do with my opinions as you wish; I’m sure these issues has been mentioned before. 😉

The biggest gripe with the edit is the removal of the scene where Leia first encounters the Ewoks. It feels quite obvious that something is missing here, as there’s no explanation for her appearance in the Ewok village. Apart from this I wouldn’t have been able to guess that something had been cut from the film if this was my first time watching it.

My second issue is a minor one: The original opening for Jabba’s barge scene, which you are using in your edit, has some really terrible special effects! I know some will prefer this scene over the SE scene either way, but the quality in this scene, with the two huge shadows walking on top of the barge is just awful. It’s not a big deal seeing as how the clip only lasts for a few seconds, but it’s still quite jarring.

I finished an alternate version of this which is a lot more heavy on the cutting end of things. So all the cuts/restructuring below is in addition to the existing cuts of v1. If anyone wants it, then I guess I could upload it and respond to any PM’s.

I had three goals with this alternate version. 1) cut out more of the silliness and gibberish, 2) make Vader feel more independent and his turn more believable, 3) restructure the entire third act.

Specific changes below for each goal:

Cutting out the Extra Rubbish:

-cut out all of salicious crumb laughing
-cut out the laughing of Jabba’s creatures when Han and Leia are captured
-cut out scene of Han and Chewie reuniting
-cut down rancor scene to avoid some of the poor special effects and get the story along since the scene doesn’t serve much purpose besides “hey, look at this cool monster fight”.
-cut out Jabba pulling Leia back from sail barge window and talking to her
-cut out C3PO asking why R2 is serving drinks
-cut out 3PO asking them if they want to plea and Han’s cheesy response. Now 3PO just says Jabba hopes they will die honorably and then Luke warns Jabba it is his last chance.
-cut out Boba Fett completely from sail barge fight
-remove Salicious pulling out 3PO’s eyes and R2 zapping him
-remove more shots of ewoks after Han, Luke, Chewie, R2, and 3PO cut themselves out of the booby trap.
-remove more cutesy shots of ewoks during feast

Make Vader more independent and his turn more believable:

-remove Vader saying “I must obey my master”. Now he just says “You don’t know the power of the dark side”. Vader should be confident in what he believes is right like in ESB, rather than doing it just cause of the Emperor. For goodness sakes, he was plotting to take over before this film.
-remove Vader saying “It is too late for me son.” Way too obvious of foreshadowing, cheapens his eventual turn, and makes Vader seem like he already knows that what he believes in is wrong and misguided. This moment of self revelation for our characters is meant to happen at the END of the arc.
-remove the Emperor saying “You must know by now your father can never be turned from the dark side.” This just sounds plain stupid and makes the Emperor think of Vader as some prize that he has fooled. Vader should feel like a respected ally and learner of the Emperor.
-remove Vader saying “It is useless to resist.” What is this, some sort of shiny object called the Dark side being dangled in front of Luke. This makes the dark side feel less complex.
-remove the Emperor saying “You, like your father, are now mine”. Again, my point stands. Why is the Emperor talking about Vader like some fool he tricked and has under his leash right in front of Vader? There should be more respect between such two powerful and ambitious men who have similar goals.
-cut out the Emperor telling Luke that if he picks up his saber that his journey towards the dark side will be complete. This just makes Luke look like an idiot. Instead the Emperor basically just tells Luke his friends and the alliance will die and that there is no hope. This actually now makes more sense as to why Luke would fall into the temptation of attacking the Emperor.

Restructuring the third act:

I always felt it was odd that the Endor/Space battles are basically about to be won by the time we see Luke and Vader have their heroic triumphs in the throne room. Those triumphs should be followed by things looking better in Endor and Space so the new scene order reflects that.

Some very interesting ideas there darthrush. I’ve sent you a PM about something you asked me about a while back.

I’d definitely be interested in seeing it. Sent you a PM.

To everyone who sent PM’s:

Apologies for forgetting to get back to ya’ll. My school gets out for winter break this Wednesday so once that happens I can upload this and will send a link to everyone who asked. Sorry, I have 3 tests in the next few days and school has been overpowering.

So you can expect a PM with a link by this Saturday.

Also be prepared for the eventual Last Jedi - Remastered edit which will be pretty extensive. Probably including deleted scenes, rescoring, restructuring and heavy cutting. You can expect a dedicated thread for ideas and test clips once the blu ray comes out in April.

Still haven’t had the time to give this a full watch-through, but I noticed that the audio seems to get quieter around the scene where Luke asks Leia about her mother. Is this just a problem on my end?
