Be very interested to see this finished.I really like the clone wars animation and my son just loves them and he would get a real kick out of seeing them done in this fashion.Someone mentioned that this has already been done in this way as a feature format but I have never heard of it.Keep us updated as I will eagerly anticipate this being finished for my son!

I'm hoping to work on this some during the weekend, But the guys wanna have a bbq, Damn them

I'll see how I go and try to put aside some time. I've actually been thinking about the edit just about every day this week which is kind of torture when you just don't have the time each day to invest in it. Things are moving forward, at a snails pace.

I need help!!

I need the largest cleanest crispest sharpest 'star wars' main title logo anyone has or can get their hands on. The best that I've been able to source just isn't good enough - even dvd sources. It doesn't HAVE to be yellow, it just needs to be in the style of what's seen in the films. IE: a nice clean outline / Black inner areas. Everything I've looked at suffers from at the very least slight crooked edges or blurry sections.

Things like this can be a brick wall, right when I've found motivation and free time again...

I've been doing a lot of work here and there and I'm hoping to put up a nice clip as soon as I can, It'll still be a little while and in the meantime I've been cleaning up and enhancing what I can. I've been working on a handful of new ideas, no spoilers yet but I'll try get some details up in the next few days.

* I will make do with what I've got if I have to.

Thanks ThrowgnCpr. I'd actually been there before but didn't think to check there. The logo you linked wasn't that great but I found a better one browsing around the site.

Okay, It's Valentines day so why not 'share the love' with updates? For anyone still interested in this thing.

I've been working away at this a fair bit lately. Mostly the first 10 or so minutes as well as a few other main parts and the ending.

Before I show some screens of where I am currently at, Please keep in mind that NOTHING you see here is final until you see it [eventually] in motion. Consider these as notes and revision for the final exam.

SPOILERS BE HERE

To kick things off i just wasn't satisfied with the 'A long time ago....' title card. The lettering seems somewhat Anorexic to me and a sickly shade of blue. Maybe it's just me but I could hardly bear looking at it - I also wanted to steer it closer to style of the cartoon itself...So I made my own. In addition to that i decided to have the logo receed a little rather than just sit there, Give it a bit of life.

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9196/alongblueii9.jpg

- I haven't used any 'star wars' fonts at all but I am sticking to the same font for everything to keep it neat and simple. [it's called Tunga] The title card lettering is the same as the subtitles and the end credits and the main crawl.

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9021/subs1qs7.jpg

After a while another Idea struck me...

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/8862/gloweyes1bp4.jpg

As you may be aware I decided to lift the whole introduction of Ventress from the storyline since 1) It halts the main story and 2) She seems to track down Anakin a little too soon for my tastes. I'd seen some fan films where there were introductory scenes wedged between the titlecard and the main titles and really liked the idea. After a lot of shuffling I decided to show the introduction of Ventress BEFORE the main titles so as not to interupt the main story later on.

But that wasn't quite enough, In order to keep it interesting I decided to have the 'present time' setting being the duel in the penthouse and feature the Arena introduction in 3 major flashbacks throughout. this idea worked better than i epected and helped me avoid some editing hassles. An example is where Ventress brings the column down to crush Dooku, in one shot they have blades crossed and in the very next shot - the very next frame, they are standing about 8 feet apart from each other.

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/7787/flamageeg9.jpg

The flashbacks would be in black and white and the 'present' would be in full colour. after a while I decided to add a blue tint to the flashbacks since pure black and white looked a little flat. It also helps to give a somewhat cold feel.

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/74/alongwhitekd7.jpg

So we kick off with a new titlecard which [the text] then fades to white. then blackness. I was trying to find a good way to start the scene while I was rewatching clone Wars and noticed a shot that starts with a closed curtain that is pulled back as Dooku walks into the viewing box. hmmm, change the pink curtain to black. That will do nicely.

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9949/curtain1xb9.jpg

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/2610/curtain2ox1.jpg

Another Idea I wanted to try was to start of in black and white but then introduce colour unexpectedly - the glow of lightsaber blades. This was definitely an inspiration i drew from watching Sin City.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/2460/sabers1ji3.jpg

Apart from a whole range of minor visual corrections and tweaks the olny other major thing to tackle was to give the hologram you see more of a blue tint, more like the movies. It probably seems pretty simple but it's taken a lot of work just to get it to that point. there are a few other minor ideas i've considered which I may go back and do. It depends how satisfied I feel with the overall outcome.

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/8241/holo2mo5.jpg

The real pain here is the audio, Since it's only in 2.0 I can't really separate the dialogue from everything else - If anyone can help me in this area i'd be very grateful.

I'm still undecided as toi how i will go from the end of the intro to the main titles. I am thinking of either
- fade in the starfield background
- wipe to the starfield back ground
- cut to black ala LOST. and then after a moment cut in with the main titles. this is probably most inline with the movies.

MAIN TITLES

As far as the main title sequence goes I've got the whole thing done rough But I still can't decide if I should show footage within the lettering ala any of the Bonus disc main menu titles...

I figure I have 8 seconds - that counts the logo fading out. What scnes would people think would be apropriate to show? The last test shot I did had the main logo with footage from chapter 1 and then the whole logo turns solid yellow before fading out. It looked okay but i'm still not too sure. I may try going from yellow outline with black interior to footage interior to solid yellow. Or possibly footage interior to black interior. 8 seconds is not a lot of time though.

Once again unable to find the star wars logo in good quality I created my own based off a vector image I found. I found this Necessary as I've never found a single fontthat accurately recreates the logo letters properly. anyone else?

MUUNILIST

I don't really have anything to show for this yet but mainly I'm recutting it all so that the ARC mission and Obiwan's ground assault + Durge encounter paly out side by side. Rather than showing seperate parts of the same battle at separate times. Also without pausing for the Ventress intro it should all flow a lot smoother.

I'm really not sure what I want to do with Kitt Fisto's underwater assault right now.

I'll try to post more soon - Remember guys, Comments welcome. - If you see something wrong it's a good bet I already know about it but it's hard to spot everything with the same pair of eyes.

oh, and the other major change I'm looking at is cropping the image - or at least using black bars, this is twofold, to feel more like the movies and also to hide some visual nasties. So if you don't understand a change i've made it's quite possibly for a technical reason more than a story reason.

Remember - Nothing is final!

I should have more updates soon - since I know people are still watching.

I'm really trying to polish this first part before continuing work on other sections. I'm still working on some clean-up and adjusting the layout before i finish up the rest of the effects [lightsabers, etc...]

First off I do love the series but I do feel they butchered it a bit for the DVD release - I'm not crazy about 'preservation' but I was a little annoyed to see some favourite scenes altered.

I feel like a noob in asking this question, but most of my Clone Wars exposure comes from the two DVD releases (my Internet access was feeble when they debuted, and our cable TV package remains similarly feeble).

I know that the individual episodes were concatenated, but I never dreamed that scenes were changed.

Is there a quick answer to the question of what was changed and why?

I am glad to see that this is still ongoing. The black and white is a great idea for setting the flashbacks apart.

Yeah I don't want things to get too confusing. It's only a setup for the main story but it is fairly legthy.

@ Mattmahdi
Nothing major, mostly crossfading of chapters and they moved soem things around early on. That just makes my work a little harder.

@ Ben_Danger
I agree. I don't expect the show to be all that good but I'm still looking forward to checking it out. At worst it would be fanedit fodder. I don't like the idea that it may contradict events from this [2d] series. We may well get more revisionist history lessons from Uncle George. I'm hoping for the best but fearing for the worst.

- In terms of cleanup take a close look at Dooku's cloak and you'll see what i mean.
- What do people think of the flashback blue tint? not too ovr the top?
- I WILL try to get some video clips online sometime soon - once i'm satisfied with the look.

the blue looks better than plain gray.

i think if it were filmed as oppose to animated you would risk making it slightly generic, but i think with it being cartoon it makes it more accesible to the viewer as a flashback.

in other words; i think its cool!

Here's what I'm toying with. See what you guys think. [oh it's quite lo res btw]

http://rs353.rapidshare.com/files/94152252/Sequence_03.avi

I want 2 shots with this sort of effect. The ifsrt will be when she first wakes up with normal visible eyes [probably blue] and the second is here checking out her new gift with suitable orange eyes.

It's not 100% right atm but I think I'm getting close, I just hate the idea of Ventress having titallo white eyes 100% of the time.

CHANGING ASAJJ'S EYES MAY NOT BE THE BEST IDEA. I WATCHED THE VIDEO, AND TO BE HONEST I DIDN'T REALLY LIKE IT. NOW, IF YOU MAKE HER EYES "NORMAL" WITH A PUPIL AND IRIS THROUGHOUT THE SERIES INSTEAD OF THE BLANK WHITE EYES I THINK THAT YOU MAY HAVE SOMETHING. SHOWING A NORMAL COLOR FOR HER EYES WHEN SHE'S NOT FIGHTING WOULD BE GOOD. WHEN SHE IS FIGHTING HER EYES COULD GO FROM A NORMAL COLOR TO THE YELLOW/RED SITH COLOR. IT WOULD ACTUALLY HELP TIE IN ANAKIN'S EYES AT THE END OF ROTS WHEN THEY GO FROM NORMAL TO SITH.

everything looks awesome so far. I really like the blue tint to the flashback. I am not sure about adding pupils to asajj. I always liked the blank eyes. but everything else looks great

Hey, this is looking great. Love the flashback idea with the only real colour the sabers. Keep up the good work.

Dont know, but B&W movie footage always takes me back to 1940's rather than the future. Then again, the light sabers stand out on mono
Author

I really was hoping to have it b&w just it just didn't end up looking as nice as it does with the blue tint. I decided to do it that way after watching both sin city and casino royale.

b&w intro to a full colour movie / pre mian titles action scene - casino royale.
b&w environment where the odd thing here or there is colour - sin city

I also did it to be sneaky in order to hide some things.

How is this project progressing?

Looks very promising. So far I like what we have seen.
