Idea: 'Rent - The Broadway edition'

Um, seeing how this is mainly a sci-fi oriented site, I hardly imagine anyone cares, but is there any interest in a quick and easy fanedit of Rent?

Here’s all the would need to be done, get the DVD, eliminate the “1989” from Mark Cohen’s opening narrative (the play was meant to be set in the 90s). add all the deleted scenes and songs back in from disc 2, eliminate the current “watching the film” ending with the alternate on-stage ending from disc 2 (which nicely bookends the film). That’s it, quick and simple right?

Well, not if I don’t have access/ability to make a fan edit. Damn. But you guys do, so if there’s interest, maybe we can get something going.

As for supplementals, there were a few specials that aired on encore, A&E, etc around the time of the film’s release. There’s also a ton of clips from the 10th anniversary of Rent concert on Youtube that might be transcoded.

Is there interest in this? If so, let’s do it.

i acutally already did this edit, its completed and sitting on my computer, there just doesnt seem to be enough interest to warrant posting it anywhere. if you want me to pif you a copy, let me know. the only thing i did differently was i didnt cut the 1989 line. other than that its just an extended edition.
I'm always looking to trade my edits, if you don't want to get them from a torrent. PM or e-mail!

Go for it, dude. I saw the film, but have yet to see the Broadway version.

This sounds similar to the Phantom cut someone did here a while back (though they actually inserted the original soundtrack).

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

I would love to see and extensive cut with the opening songs and such used instead of the monologue....and have the answering machine moments, and have You'll See after Today for You. And make everything up La Vie Boheme take place in one night by switching light scenes to dark...etc.... But that is out of my editing skills.

Well, unfortunately it appears that the only cut stuff that was filmed is featured on the DVD as extras. When I call it a Broadway Edition, it is to capture the mood of the play, thus bookending the film with the on-stage segments from the film.

What kills me is that they filmed so much more stuff to make a Broadway Cut if they wanted....but none of it was on the DVD....
