Sad news.
I was lucky enough to meet Peter and see him many times at conventions and events here in the UK.
I’m gutted.
RIP Peter mate.
My wife just read it and told me. For me, this is the biggest loss as a Star Wars fan. The character I’ve long connected with throughout my troubled relationship with the franchise. By all accounts, as awesome and grounded an individual as there is. Also a fellow Texan.
A sad day to be sure, more so than I’m allowing myself to embrace. This will be a very tough one.
RIP, sir, you have been my connection to the GFFA for over 40 years.

I remember the tabloid press trying to paint a picture of Mayhew and other masked actors in the original film somehow getting screwed over by not getting a chunk of the movie’s success, but Peter simply went back to his day job working at a hospital when production was over. He had only done Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger prior to Star Wars. I don’t think he ever said a bad word about Star Wars or anyone associated with it.
Did that bigfoot movie that he was supposed to be doing, (and was a running gag thread on here for a while) ever get made?

I wonder what the dedication will read during the credits of Episode IX? Sad to think that’s now two movies in a row that’ll carry dedications to absent friends
I wouldn’t take that as granted. Kenny Baker didn’t receive one in TLJ. And I’m not sure whether Mayhew was technically involved with TROS.
