Atheists are very moral people you know. But you already knew that didn't you?

No more moral than the average Joe of any other major religion. What's your point?

Generalizing in such a way is retarded. No, I did not know that. I know that SOME atheists are decently moral people, and I know SOME Christians are decently moral people, and just so I do not have to make a huge comprehensive list, I know that SOME people of various other religions are decently moral people.

Getting into a pissing contest of who is more moral is pointless (not accusing you of doing this, Sean). However, if you are an atheist, and a moral person, don't feel the need to defend all atheists. I am a Christian, and I try to be a moral person, but I know there are plenty of Christians who are not moral, or somehow feel justified in doing wrong. I cannot defend them, nor do I want to defend them. There have been mass murders murdering under the name of Christ, and there have been mass murders murdering under the name of Darwanism or survival of the fitest. If you ask me, both of our religions suffer from bad people, doing bad things under its name.

Why should anyone want to be a moral person?

Yeah, no kidding. I think all it gets you is constantly screwed over. My experience anyway.

Hats off to canofhumdingers and C3PX. Very well stated and honorable stance for the cause of Christ.

The one thing that ultimately molds Christ into something unappealing to nonbelievers are Christians themselves. Stereotypically Christians are extremely hypocritical, judgmental, and holier-than-thou. The simplicity of who Christ is tends to be lost in translation because many so called Christians fail go grasp it themselves. Humanity is an absolute mess and can in no way live a perfect life up to the Biblical standards in the Old Testament.

The whole point of the Old Testament is to prove that living a perfect life is absolutely impossible. Our inability to live up to Gods standards is punishable by death. God then in turn creates a compassionate and awe-inspiring hand of grace. He creates Himself as a sacrifice to prove His love to pay the penalty of our sinful nature. He could have made us robots to do what He says, or just came down and laid the smack down... but He gave us a choice. That choice entails a relationship to invest our live in thanksgiving for paving a way in love from death. All we have to do is accept the fact that He did sacrifice Himself on the cross for us.

Galatians 2: 20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Exactly. I was hoping perhaps Sean could inform me why atheists think people should be moral. Perhaps they actually have sound reason since many of them claim to use it so well. Otherwise, I must confess that morality is a very confounding thing to me.

If we had a modern day Jesus who would it be? I'd have to say Bono.

I was thinking of a witty comeback but how can any attempt at comedy top this anyway?

Bono? That guy thinks he's so great. He probably thinks he deserves a Nobel Prize. Saving the planet and the poor in comfort, style and luxury.

If you don't realize I was joking there. Half the stuff I say is a joke.
But Huckabee is a nut case. I don't mind religious candidates at all but he is just going a bit too far. I have a feeling Obama will be our next president. Can't say he is my favorite choice but I like him.

LOL. I'm sorry Sean, but everyone around here knows how you feel about religion, so you'll have to excuse me if I see your comments as anything but laughable.

On one hand, we have Romney telling us that he won't let his religion affect his policy and on the other we have Huckabee all but saying that his religion will affect his policy. Your religion is part of you, how can you not let it affect public policy? I'm not saying that the Mormon church would be telling him how to govern, but how can anyone believe that "I won't let my religion influence my decisions". Bull.

So Sean, what exactly are you referring to with Huckabee? I haven't really been keeping up with what each and every candidate has been saying lately, so the only thing that comes to mind is the "cross commercial". I saw the commercial and it was pretty obvious that it was a bookcase, nothing more. Even Alan Colmes on Fox News said "OK, that's a bookcase" even though the headline was "Huckabee uses floating cross in latest ad".

So Sean, how exactly is he suppose to act? He's a Baptist Minister, of course he's going to invoke religion. Not invoking religion would be like a Catholic Priest running for President and not invoking religion. It should practically be expected.
