Is 2001 any good?

I hear there's no dialogue for like an hour... That must suck.

And the ghost of Stanley Kubrick rises from the ground and beats up Bossk.

And after the ghost of Stanley Kubrick beats him, it's MY turn.

How can anyone hate 2001!?

Ironically, I love A Clockwork Orange. That was a great movie. (Kubrick's soul lays itself back to rest just short of mangling Bossk).

I'm pretty hit or miss with Kubrick. Loved Spartacus, didn't understand Dr. Strangelove, loved ACO, hated 2001, loved Full Metal Jacket, hated Eyes Wide Shut. I don't think I've seen any of his other films (and that includes The Shining... still haven't seen that... hold your gasps).

I liked "Paths of Glory", but it's a good film, and that's it.

I didn't like "Spartacus".

I absolutely loved "Dr Strangelove" - it's a great anti-war film, explores the absurdity and the insanity of the cold-war. It's like what Carl Seagan once said, the cold war was like two persons standing in oil to their chest, one with 2 matches, the other with 5.

I don't need to say anything about 2001 and A Clockwork Orange, as they are the absolute perfect films.

I enjoyed "The Shining", but it was kinda weird, not exactly a "horror" film.

I enjoyed "Full Metal Jacket", specially the first half (of course).

I kinda liked "Eyes Wide Shut", not bad, but still NOT his best film.

I actually only seen a few of Kubrik's movies.

Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, and most of 2001 (watched in one thanksgiving late at night and fell asleep for part of it)

I would consider The Shining a horror film. That movie freaked me out both times I watched it.

oh yeah, post number 200

Everybody keeps calling the Shining a horror classic so I always assumed it was a horror movie. Well, everyone calls it a classic except for the author of the story, Stephen King, who hated the finished product and that's why he made a TV movie version of The Shining about 4 or 5 years ago. He liked it a lot more even though it tanked in the TV ratings.

I think Thriller, or Psychological Thriller would probably be a better classification for The Shining.

Either way, its def freaked me out and id consider it one of, if not the, scariest movie ive seen. (note: i dont watch much as far as scary movies go, im a little wuss when it comes to them )

The Exorcist is still my favorite. Not Kubrick, obviously. But horror/psychological thriller.

Yeah, my favorite would have to be Spartacus.

So Stan Kubrick is what? Writer Director Producer?

Anywho, can someone tell me what 2001 is really about?

Director, but he produced most of his films after "Spartacus". He did write/co-write all of his movies except Spartacus, but he always based them on books or prevously written stories.

Try watching 2001, it won't kill ya.
