Whats the point? It always ends the same way.

With me crying in the car because Mommy and Daddy are fighting again?

Sorry we have to put you through this son…Star Wars is grown up business.

TFA and ROTS fan edited are very close. I used to rank TFA just below probably because I had quite the hype. After watching the blu Ray Iv gotta put TFA barely above Fanedited RoTS.

I’d say LOE v1 is comparable to ROTJ (theatrical) which is #4 on my list. I wouldn’t put it on the same level of ESB, TFA, or SW but that’s just me.

He is horrible with endings, which may be why instead of a real ending, we get a “to be continued” setup for the next film.

There is admittedly some set up for the next film (Snoke recalling Kylo and such) but they are external to the story.

Rey meeting Luke to train with him is the conclusion to the main plot of finding Luke and Rey’s own character arc in the film. There is a “to be continued” in that we know there’s more story that will be told but this is still 100% an ending to the story that the film is telling.

I forgot to mention ROTJ. I think ROTS Fanedited is barely superior.

I would agree had ROTS Fanedited had a scene as powerful as when Luke snapped on Vader or when Vader killed Palpatine.

And in terms of Luke’s story it’s what the entire trilogy had been leading up to. Just with the rest of the 3rd act felt that way.

Ah, you had me with your list of rules until you stipulated TFA had to be better than the Prequels. There I beg to differ. I think you have to start with an awesome story and, as the edits and novelizations prove, the stories are good.

Or not.

I found TFA to be weak in that area. Abrams excels at character vinettes, but tends to fail at the greater story arc a movie or TV series needs. He is horrible with endings, which may be why instead of a real ending, we get a “to be continued” setup for the next film.

I know, right? The Empire Strikes Back is a horrible movie.

Did it end with a scene that was picked up and continued in the next film? No, it had a solid ending that led up to the next story without being the start of the next story.

That’s not the point and you know it. There were multiple story lines that were left unfinished and questions that were left unanswered and that makes it not a fully contained story like STAR WARS. Both films were designed around having things picked up in the next film because sequels were definitely happening.

So you must feel the same way about the prequels then because every single one of their endings whad a “to be continued” set up for the next episode. TPM with the whole sith/ palpatine " was it the master or the apprentice" thing. AOTC with the beginning of the clone wars and seeing the ships taking off and then ROTS basically setting up for the continuation into episode 4.

No, the prequels all ended with solid endings. They were setups for the furthering story, but they didn’t end like TFA with an incomplete scene that continues in the next film. Abrams passed the buck on writing an ending. Probably a good think considering how crappy his endings usually are.

Well I must admit that the guy has a point. If it was a proper ending, it would be like ESB when they set on something (she would not meet Luke in this film), or we should at least have some (small) conclusion from the scene in terms of dialogue. The way it is now is really bad, especially it makes it awkward for the sequel.

Other than the length of the awkward staring the scene was handled relatively well and creates suspense around what is going to be said in their first interaction. As it pertains to VIII they only have to stare at each other for like 5 seconds or something until the first line is spoken.

Now how will you start the sequel?

That would be lame because it was already done.

Probably with some miscellaneous First Order and/or Knights of Ren scene and then cutting to Luke and Rey where we left them off.
