  5. The Force Awakens
  6. Revenge of the Sith
  7. The Rise of Skywalker
  8. The Phantom Menace
  9. Attack of the Clones

The 3 and 4 spots are neck and neck for me, as are 7 and 8. I’m not entirely sure where the Star Wars Stories film would land. Could be between 4 and 5 or 5 and 6, can’t really say definitively.

  1. Empire Strikes Back (great)
  2. Return of the Jedi (great)
  3. Revenge of the Sith (great)
  4. A New Hope (great)
  5. Rogue One (great)
  6. The Force Awakens (pretty good)
  7. Solo (mediocre)
  8. Attack of the Clones (has it’s highlights)
  9. Phanthom Menace (has it’s highlights)
  10. The Last Jedi (why…)

I know this is over a year old but I just thought I would briefly comment my new sentiments. The list is still pretty accurate, but believe it or not I’d probably now put TPM and AOTC above TFA and possibly Solo, because at least they actually contribute and are essential to the saga and lore. They have great parts. Meanwhile IMO the sequel trilogy to the Star Wars saga is like a lamprey that’s latched itself onto a shark: it’s something forced onto something else that was already functioning perfectly without it, doesn’t flow right with the rest of the body, and literally just sucks from it like a parasite. Sound unpleasant? Exactly. Like the sequel trilogy.

Rise of Skywalker is second to worst, only beat still by The Last Jedi.

I think the only thing more confusing to me than putting TLJ last are people who like the sequels and put TLJ as the worst of the three. You’re the former of these two confusing cases, but I am curious, have you rewatched it since it came out?

I’m someone who likes the sequels and puts TLJ as the worst. It’s not too complicated reasoning for me. I can sit back and enjoy the OT as well-made movies. I can also sit back and enjoy the ST as well-made movies. I cannot say the same for the PT, as funny as the memes are, so I put it behind the ST. Now to break apart the movies, I enjoy TFA and TROS much more than TLJ. TLJ is well-made but it’s not fun to watch. It tries too hard for my liking, with way too many characters and subplots that don’t mesh well at all. TFA is a retread of ANH, but it has fun while doing it. TROS is an admittedly bad story, but it’s so bad it becomes fun to watch.

On rewatch, I really tried to enjoy the concepts presented in TLJ, because on paper they do sound good. But when I rewatched it just didn’t work for me. The only parts I find worthwhile are Luke, Rey, and Ben. Still, it’s better than the PT, which is very dull and not fun whatsoever.

Bumping this thread because I think I’ve finally arrived at my definitive ranking of these films:

  1. Star Wars
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. Return of the Jedi
  4. Revenge of the Sith
  5. Rogue One
  6. The Last Jedi
  7. Solo
  8. Attack of the Clones
  9. The Clone Wars
  10. The Phantom Menace
  11. The Force Awakens
  12. The Rise of Skywalker

As you all can see… I’m not a fan of J. J. Abrams.

  8. The Force Awakens
  9. Rogue One
  10. Solo
  11. The Rise of Skywalker

This is mostly a ranking of how I enjoy the films more than how I feel about them as movies. This is why Solo and Force Awakens are pretty low. I think they’re competently made, but I also think they’re incredibly bland. Solo feels like a filmed Wookiepedia page. However, TROS and Rogue One would also probably be in the same spot if this was a “rank the films by quality” list. Rogue One has an amazing last third, but everything else feels like a mess. Events are just smashed together and nearly every character is underwritten. It honestly feels like it was written on the editing table. Not much that I can add about TROS that hasn’t been said already.

Very conflicted about where to put Revenge of the Sith. Occasionally rate it higher.
As for TV shows…

  1. The Mandalorian
  2. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
  3. Star Wars Rebels
  4. Star Wars Clone Wars (Genndy Tartakovsky)
  5. Resistance

I love the first 4 series, and Resistance I thought was great kids’ content, just not good enough for me to stick past the first 2 episodes. I’m not really qualified to rank it.

I’m going to try rating them by whether they “spark joy.” If I picked up the movie while digging through trash, how much joy would each spark in me? Visceral reactions to being unexpectedly confronted by each film.

A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
The Empire Strikes Back
The Last Jedi
The Phantom Menace
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith

The Rise of Skywalker
Attack of the Clones

Well done. I will disengage self-destruct initiative.

I’ve seen all three Disney trilogy films in theaters, RO in theaters and on Netflix (before it was removed), Solo on Netflix, and rented the prequels, ANH and ESB on demand for free for a limited time.

I don’t know whether you’re serious, but you made me laugh. If you want to PM me your phone number I would be happy to give you a verbal recounting of the story of ROTJ.

In order of personal liking this would be my ranking. Though I unironically enjoy aspects of all of them, even the lowest-ranked ones. I like living at peace with the franchise.

1- Empire Strikes Back (my favorite and the best one)
2- A New Hope
3- Revenge of the Sith
4 - Rogue One
5 - Return of the Jedi
6 - Force Awakens
7 - Solo
8 - The Last Jedi
9 - The Rise of Skywalker
10 - Attack of the Clones
11- Phantom Menace
