Okay I’ve now seen it twice so I feel like I can do this with some degree of certainty (though it’s still subject to change, of course)

  1. SW
  2. ESB
  3. TLJ
  4. TFA
  5. ROTJ
  6. RO
  7. ROTS
  8. TPM
  9. AOTC

As of right now.

  1. TESB
  2. SW (TLJ?)
  3. RotJ (TLJ?)
  4. RotS
  5. RO (TLJ?)
  6. TFA (TLJ?)
  7. AotC
  8. TPM

You’re putting TLJ anywhere between second and sixth?

New ranking after seeing TLJ a second time last night:

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. Star Wars
  3. The Last Jedi
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Rogue One
  6. Return of the Jedi
  7. The Phantom Menace
  8. Revenge of the Sith
  9. Attack of the Clones

It should be noted that TFA and TLJ are extremely close, but the highs of TLJ outweigh TFA for me, for the moment. As I’ve made peace with the one thing that I loathed about TLJ the first time, it’s gone up a couple notches, but in the final estimate it could easily bump back down under TFA. I feel confident in saying I like it more than Rogue One now, though.

Pretty much exactly where I’m at right now. Although I will always struggle with 1 vs 2, and probably similarly with 3 vs 4.

I am not ready to rank it yet, but currently what i feel is not far off from what you posted up there ^^

I mean, I don’t see TLJ between RotS and RotJ.

Rather than answering my question, this just generated further questions.

It’s curious to see the Disney movies ranked between 3 and 5 (better than ROTJ ?.. ok… ) whereas TLJ clearly “hates” TFA and R1. But anyway, TLJ/TFA/R1 better than ROTJ… it’s insane… just insane…

I’ll try again:

TESB
SW
RotJ
TLJ
RotS
RO
TFA
AotC
TPM

I know that I literally just contradicted myself.

I don’t get it though, so far from what I’ve seen you seem to go from asking for people to respect your opinion to say other people’s opinions are insane.

I see you’ve met Mala.

I like you Hal but you just put TLJ behind a cartoon. And not even a good cartoon.

I’d be curious to find out when was the last time everyone here who ranks ROTS in the top half actually saw the film. I’m not being facetious, I seriously want to know if it’s something you guys watch regularly or if you haven’t reexamined it in a while.

  1. Empire Strikes Back still remains flawless to me
  2. A New Hope comes second due its mostly linear and straight forward story, which isn’t inherently a bad thing
  3. Return of the Jedi is third because the second half still features the best space battle and the best confrontation between Luke and Vader
  4. The Force Awakens stays here at #4 because it brings new characters that are really interesting to watch; ones that you actually care about
  5. The Last Jedi basically is the defining line where it’s still a SW film I would like to watch preferably over the SW films that come after in this list; it’s not OUTRIGHT awful, but it’s not really great either
  6. Revenge of the Sith is uh, still a watchable prequel to me since it was my favorite prequel movie at the time as a kid
  7. Rogue One may be a ‘different’ SW film, but oh boy, it arguably has the worst and least interesting characters since…
  8. Attack of the Clones and…
  9. The Phantom Menace

Basically #7, #8, & #9 in that list stand out as being the most bland to me because it tries to have this epic story, accompanied by flashy action sequences, and super uninteresting characters.

Whatever cable channel has the rights was playing a marathon this weekend and my wife hate watched most of ROTS. She said she couldn’t turn away, like she was watching a 2 hour car wreck. She also said she remembered it being bad, but not this bad.

I rank it fourth, not including The Last Jedi, which I’m waiting to see again in order to confirm the ranking. I watched Revenge of the Sith a couple of days ago when watching all the films before seeing TLJ. It’s still really good.

Not enough people read the EU.

My ranking isn’t meant to be objective, as if that were even possible.

My fifteen year old self really enjoyed ROTS in the theater a few times and there was enough there in terms of philosophy and ideas at play. Even when Star Wars isn’t doing so hot in terms of the actual movie, there’s usually still some good ideas to chew on and extrapolate from. Anakin’s psyche, the nature of power corrupting good intentions, desperation, idealism, etc. Even if it’s hokey, it’s the archetypal content that undergirds Star Wars. The execution of the prequels was fucked, but ROTS had that key ingredient poking through.
I enjoyed the saber duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan, as well as a masked Vader asking whether Padme was safe, turning Vader into a tragic figure to pave the way for my beloved ROTJ and his redemption.

The Last Jedi made me feel like an idiot, and I think it was on purpose whereas the prequels did the same by incompetence.

I’m just reporting my personal experience, and your mileage may vary.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Yeah I basically share this opinion.

That’s a really odd reaction to TLJ, but ok.
