How many times has DC rebooted it’s universe?

The ones I can think of:

Crisis on infinite earths

Zero hour

Final Crisis?

New 52

Rebirth

Showcase #4 (Also, Rebirth isn’t technically a reboot, but eh, semantics really).

Why isn’t it a reboot?

A reboot, at least how I see it, is a universal restart of continuity. Rebirth was just a retcon of some elements of the previous reboot (almost entirely undid the reboot for the Superman books, but for, say, Flash, they just re-introduced some characters previously rebooted out of existence).

By that standard, Zero Hour isn’t a reboot, either.

I stand by it, then, though I haven’t read that one so idk.

Zero Hour was basically DC’s attempt to debug the post-Crisis continuity. From what I’ve read, it didn’t work.

I miss the Silver Age. Back when no one gave a damn about continuity.

I prefer the Bronze Age. Strong continuity, mature storytelling, but not inaccessible and full of grimdark deconstructionist bullshit.

Yeah. Whenever I think of the Bronze Age, I think of the Fleischer Superman cartoons. Probably the purest interpretation of what that hero is all about.

Er… you’re thinking Golden.

Yeah, the comic ages go in this order:

  • Platinum Age (1897-1938)
  • Golden Age (1938-1945)
  • Atom Age (1945-1956)
  • Silver Age (1956-1971)
  • Bronze Age (1971-1986)
  • Modern Age (1986-present)

Course, I’m not a fan of that “Modern Age” designation; it’s too broad. I prefer breaking it up thusly:

  • Copper Age (1986-1991)
  • Dark Age (1991-2000)
  • Modern Age (2000-present)

Why does the Platinum age start in 1897? What occurred that year? I’ve never heard of a Platinum or Atom age of comic books before.

I can’t speak for Platinum beyond the fact that sometime around there was the start of Sunday funny papers, but the Atom Age refers to the decline of superhero stories after the war as comics began to lean more towards horror stories and atomic bomb anxieties. By the mid-fifties, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman were the only remaining supers with their own comics.

I wish we had two comic book threads already in a different subforum

Am I blue
Am I blue
Ain’t these tears in my eyes telling you
Am I blue
you’d be too
If each plan that you made done fell through

Some guy called me Rico suave today. I didn’t know who he was and still know nothing about him, but after looking up a picture of him I assume it was a compliment. Or else he was calling me a pretty boy. But I don’t put much effort into my looks but I have been growing my hair out, i can’t help it if I’m naturally beautiful. 🤷‍♂️

So opium eye drops will give me Eyes of the Ibad. Gotcha.

Someone once told me I looked like a dead body. He didn’t specify which one so I don’t know if it was a compliment or not.

Ah, I haven’t seen any version of that for years and I have never read the book.

So I’ve just started getting an “net::err_cert_date_invalid” message when I try accessing this site through Chrome. Is it safe to say the site’s SSL certificate just needs renewal and there’s nothing suspicious going on at my end?

[JEDIT]

Decided to restart my computer just to see if that did anything, and now the site’s loading normally. Strange.
