Well North Korea calls itself "Democratic". Does that make it democratic?

When "Her" came out two years ago I was reminded of "Electric Dreams". I haven't seen the movie, but the synopsis strongly reminds me of that.

Now I see on Youtube a trailer for "Chappie". It's "Short Circuit"!! It almost looks like a parody trailer one would make after seeing the new Robocop.

Got screwed out of a huge chunk of money from my previous employer, I don't have any proof thanks to the fact that they didn't provide pay stubs in physical form, and I also cannot get a hold of them.

Christmas was essentially screwed thanks to these people, and my only proof is a W-2 and my good word. I ended up only receiving about 40 percent of what I earned, and that's with taxes figured in.

I quit that job the week before Thanksgiving, because they had issues with setting up my direct deposit, which I went to great lengths to prevent from happening when I set it up at orientation. Now not only am I unemployed, I am also robbed. I don't want to make a big lawsuit out of this, I just want what I earned. I don't get government support, nor do I draw unemployment.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

That sucks big donkey balls man.  Sorry to hear that.  :(

On a somewhat happier note, I'm thrilled to after all the time I've been posting here I'm finally mentioned in somebody else's signature.  It's too much honor, I can't handle the pressure!

^Thanks, it does suck some big donkey balls. I'm trying not to get too mad about it. I've learned not to let that crap eat at me too much. I'm still gonna do something about it.

You should!  That's first class bs, you need your moneys.  You already work about 1 month a year for free thanks to income taxes.

I was going to explain what you get for free thanks to taxes, but this is not the politics thread.

From what I've heard most of your income taxes go straight to the federal deficit, but it was a documentary so it might have been biased and/or propaganda.

They still owe me quite a bit after taxes. Taxes were deducted from money I never even saw. I'm going to pay them a little visit at the start of the week and get it all sorted. If I was the type to bring lawyers into it, I could rip them a new one, but that's not the way I do things. I want what I earned, end of story.

Hey does anyone here know of a good program for recording off of a TV Tuner card on the PC?

I have been using a TV tuner card on my PC as my recording device for years but I can't use Windows Media Center because I don't have highspeed internet where I live and lately the program that came with the tuner card has gotten stuck recording at 59.97 frames per second so as you can imagine lip sync is way off on anything I record.  I have tried reinstalling the program but that has not worked so I need a new program.

I tried using google and Bing to search for a DVR program but all I got were a bunch of results for watching TV off of the internet, not recording it from my TV Tuner card.

If anyone here knows of a good third party program that will let me control the frame rate programs are recorded at I would be grateful for the help.

In 2003, I saved photos from the Stargate movie onto a purple floppy disk. Soon after, though, I lost the disk and never found it. To this day I still wonder what became of it.

Belinda Carlisle c. 1984 kinda looks like a young Angela Lansbury if Angela Lansbury wore '80s hair and clothes. It arouses me, to be quite honest.

I think I used to confuse Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy with one another.

I often have the urge to buy a shotgun, sit down in front of one of those big honkin' CRT TVs from the '70s/'80s/whichever, deliberately watch something I know I'll hate, then blow the TV away with the shotgun.

I used to think the German and Jamaican accents were identical.

I thought Tracey Chapman was a man.

I once thought Alastair Sim and Christopher Walken were one and the same person.

When I first watched Stargate, I thought Ra was played by Carrie Fisher in brownface makeup.

I sometimes have the urge to go outside during a heavy April rainstorm, walk on over to my old high school, strip naked, and go running around for all to see me.

I have a memory of standing inside an dim-lit underground bunker. I have absolutely no idea where this memory comes from.

I once owned at least thirty cats.

In the last few years I've become extremely forgetful. The other day I was cleaning a shelf and lo and behold, under an inch of dust, there was a floppy labeled "Ghostbusters II". I haven't used a floppy in at least three years. I suspect it might be either a dos or amiga game, but right now I have no way of knowing. And with all that dust the disk is probably kaputt anyway.

You might be tone deaf.

That's funny, I used to think Mick Hucknall was a woman.

Why does our society glorify sex?  Further, why is the abuse of women so popular that Hollywood has to release a BDSM pornographic movie and rate it only R?

Funny, I thought our society glorified violence, as it's gets more of a pass from the MPAA than sex usually does. Blow people away all you want, but if you show just one penis, it's NC-17 for you! ;)

I thought the fanbase for the book was mostly women? Go fig.

Where were you in '77?

I have seen woman repeatedly refuse to file charges against men who beat them because they think that proves how much he loves them and that they shouldn't have questioned "the man".

This stuff having female fans doesn't really prove anything.

I haven't read the book, so I'm basing my opinion on wikipedia.

From what I'm reading in the plot synopsys, it sounds really stupid. It sounds like bad fanfiction one would write..

* gets to "Background" paragraph *

OH.

oh.

Well, obviously the movie is being made because they know people horny housewives will go see it. Just like when "Sex and the city" came out. "Oh, look girls, we're outrageous! We're kinky!" PLEEAZE. Stop it.

What bothers me is that dimestore trash like this is being read by women, and it's being passed off as literature. Not only that, apparently it perpetrates a distorted view of BDSM relationships, which bothers me as any act that would perpetuate ignorance would.

I think you're confusing kinky sex with assholes beating up women.

My point was just because some woman like it doesn't mean that it isn't anti woman.

The fact is you can find self hating people in any group who approve of things that go against the best interest of the group.  That is just part of the human condition so the argument that some stuff is okay just because a member of that group likes it doesn't really wash.

I have not read one word of the book so i can not speak for it's case, I was just making a general point.
