I hope the extended editions are sourced from the TV HD masters rather than the ones from the most recent sets with the DVR abuse. That would be a nice treat for LOTR fans.

According to the story it will be a new transfer, "remastered from the original 2K digital files."

I'm on Bill Hunt's side - for me max quality will trump convenience (provided I someday own a tv large enough for it to matter).  Also, I don't have the time to watch any of the extended movies in one sitting. ;-)

Hmmm, while the split discs were necessary for the DVD capacity release, I gotta say that I was looking forward to seeing complete, uninterrupted veiwings of each EXTENDED movie with this Blu-ray release this time around...if the 'ol bladder could stand it. ;)

Yes, the bonus features are tremendous once again, but I guess I wasn't expecting this distracting 'change-over' this time around.

Bill's certainly pleased with this latest amount of picture quality, albeit spread over 2 Blu-ray discs per movie, as he currently uses a 110-inch front projection screen.  Me, I'd have been happier with a slightly more compressed (but still very high quality) picture at this point, to get each movie complete on one disc.  Ho hum.

I had the opportunity to see a marathon of the LotR films just before RotK came out. Here was the announcement:
Leading up to the December 17 release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the final film in Peter Jackson's epic dramatic trilogy, New Line Cinema will release a limited number of 35mm prints of the Special Extended Editions of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers in theaters across North America. The special screening series will culminate in an unprecedented marathon of back-to-back presentations of the Extended Editions followed by a special screening of The Return of the King. The announcement was made today by Rolf Mittweg, the studio's president and chief operating officer, worldwide distribution and marketing.

From December 5 - 11, the studio will release 100-150 35mm prints of the Special Extended Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring in cities across the country. On December 12 - 15, these prints will be replaced with Special Extended Edition prints of The Two Towers. On Monday, December 8, and Monday, December 15, both films will be presented back-to-back. Then, on Tuesday, December 16, participating theaters will show a one-time-only marathon of both Extended Edition prints followed by an 11pm screening of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The official opening of the film will commence at 12:01 AM on Wednesday, December 17, 2003.

Advance ticketing for the screening series is expected to commence this fall.
My local theater was one of the participating theaters. I don't recall them showing the EEs before that point, but a huge group of friends and I bought tickets to the marathon. Somehow we got done faster than they planned, so they started RotK at 10pm instead of 11, so we got to see it even earlier than the midnight group.

We didn't get their early enough for good seats which was a HUGE mistake. Sat pretty close to the screen to the side, necks hurt so bad. We also got a statue thing with 35mm film frames in them from each movie. Very cool.

I sat through a marathon showing of the EE's a few summers ago.  That was enough.

But when Kenny G decided that it was appropriate for him to defile the music of the man who is probably the greatest jazz musician that has ever lived by spewing his lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, fucked up playing all over one of the great Louis's tracks (even one of his lesser ones), he did something that I would not have imagined possible. He, in one move, through his unbelievably pretentious and calloused musical decision to embark on this most cynical of musical paths, shit all over the graves of all the musicians past and present who have risked their lives by going out there on the road for years and years developing their own music inspired by the standards of grace that Louis Armstrong brought to every single note he played over an amazing lifetime as a musician. By disrespecting Louis, his legacy and by default, everyone who has ever tried to do something positive with improvised music and what it can be, Kenny G has created a new low point in modern culture - something that we all should be totally embarrassed about - and afraid of. We ignore this, "let it slide", at our own peril.
tell us how you really feel guy.

Why?

Why?  I felt that question come up in my mind a lot while watching this video, such as:  Why is this girl so concerned with which car seat she sits in?  Why is that black man so eager to see a school bus drive by?  Why are the drawings so scary-looking?  Why does it seem like such an accomplishment to let me know that Saturday comes after Friday?  And Sunday after that?  Oh, and I almost forgot that Thursday was the day before.

My head hurts.

EDIT:  Oh, and having done a little bit of research on this particular person, now I have to ask:  Why are 13-year-olds driving a car to school?  Why are 13-year-olds going out clubbin' on a Friday night?  This video makes no sense.  It's tearing me apart!!!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Pat Metheny drags Kenny G. through the mud: http://www.jazzoasis.com/methenyonkennyg.htm

I don't care for Kenny G, but I generally don't listen to a lot of jazz anyway.

But statements like how Kenny G isn't actually skilled (compared to Metheny)...

But he did show a knack for connecting to the basest impulses of the large crowd (empahsis mine)

strikes me as a little sour grapes.

"I'm better than Kenny G. but he just dumbly connects to dumb people who aren't smart enough to like me becasue they're dumb and so is Kenny G.."

That he ends his blog with complaining that a clip of him on youtube is out of context, and he's shocked because "Polish people used to be cool. What happened man?" leaves me thinking Metheny is more of a tool than affecting my opinion of Kenny G at all.

Heh, I knew you were going to say that.  But I don't know if I can find it in me to be so mean to a kid.  And plus, since this is the kind of song that is apparently thriving only BECAUSE of its bad publicity, wouldn't I just be encouraging it?

I am starting to give this idea some consideration.  At the very least, I may be able to parlay the hot-button, current event success of this pop culture catastrophe phenomenon and catch a ride on this 13-year-old's coattails, drumming up interest in my own channel (just hit 300 subscribers!).  Hmm.  I shall consider this...

Sigh. If I can manage to reinstall my editing software again, that is.  My computer crashed a few weeks ago.  Now I'm just putting in the install CD, but my computer is not reading this CD that I've only used once and have kept in its case for the past two years since.  Are they so worried about pirating that the disc literally only works once and then self-destructs from the inside?

Dear Sir,

I wish to complain about the number of complaints on this site.  They are clearly not written by the general public, and are merely included for a cheap laugh.

Yours Sincerely,
