ROTS Review by Kevin Smith... EXTREME SPOILERS!

I couldn't help but read it. It's a very in-depth review by filmmaker and avowed SW geek, Kevin Smith. Enjoy but be warned, he gives away a helluva lot of stuff...

Kevin Smith ROTS Review
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia'."

He says that it's fucking awesome. i really can't wait for this film.
"A Jedi can feel the force flow through him".

I respect Kevin Smith because there's always been that true fanboy comic/Star Wars lover in him. I'm pumped to see this movie even more so now!

As he says, he's predisposed to love star wars, he even wrote nice things about phantom menace. Worth a read for comparison:
Kevin's Phantom Menace Review

There's also an inspired article in the latest edition of Empire magazine, who had the sense to get uberfans Kevin Smith, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright in a room together to mull over all things star wars.
Luckily you can also read the article online here:
Pegg, Smith & Wright! The definitive Star Wars fan conversation

I for one would love to hear Simon Peggs review of ROTS. Maybe it'd even inspire a third series of 'Spaced'. Or how about 'Shaun of the Sith'?

Hmmm... not that all the 'points' made weren't accurate to the spoilers I've seen already but....

that just didn't seem like Kevin Smith's style of writing. The 'speech' pattern seemed off. And it really wasn't so much of a review as it was, I dunno, just a random list of spoilers and things to look for that link ROTS to the other movies.

Almost as if someone handed Kevin or someone at Askew a press release and said "Hey dude- the geek crowd respects you opinion. Tell them it things they want to hear."

I dunno, just me maybe.

I only read the first two paragraphs of his review. He seems to thing the flick is good. I hope is right. But I have a bad feeling about this...

no disrespect to the guy or anything but after reading his episode 1 review..... im definatly not gonna take his words on episode 3...

I have not read his review of ep1. I assume the review said ep1 was great?

I've never read his Ep. 1 review before until now. He definately gave it a lot of credit, while still discounting some things. I think if I were him, I would have been a bit more harsh about Jar Jar, the Gungans, the underwater scene, the Nemoidians, ummm and Jake Lloyd and Natalie's acting. But I still liked the fights and underlying story in Ep. 1, so I understand that part of his review. The ranking of Ep. 1 right under Empire Strikes Back made me .

Even still, I'm going to keep a good outlook on Ep. III.

well as Anakin's Mannequin just said...
he ranked TPM under ESB...
so basically he is saying it was better than ANH and ROTJ... hell and even AOTC for that reason...

i mean AOTC was a pretty bad movie and all but i only cringe during certain scenes... like the anakin riding a potatoe bug scene and all the romance crap that is completely rushed....
other than that i enjoy AOTC for its sheer action.... whereas TPM (although it had amazing action) is always ruined by something stupid... ie jar jar, two headed announcer etc

He said ep1 was better than ROTJ and the Original Classic Star Wars!!?!! Is he insane!!!!!!!!!!??!!!!!!!!!!!!

No SW film is better than ESB!

If he really said that, I'm taking this EpIII review with a grain of salt. Still I liked TMP and AoTC. So I'll probably like RotS.

I just remember, at this exact point before AOTC, that all sorts of fanboy-style reviews (even if legitimate) started pouring in. I'm still somewhat wary of Ep 3.

Yeah, Kevin Smith has raved about all of the prequels in advance. Plus, word on the street is that he wants to work on the Star wars TV show, so it's likely that he's sucking up -- consciously or unconsciously.

I wouldn't put much stock in that review. But then, after the first two prequels my expectations are rock-bottom low.

Why does this site attract prequel haters? It seems that people who hate the SE most are the same people who hate the prequels most too.

There are a few exceptions, of course, like Bossk and Sessler, but it's generally a rule. Either way, I don't really trust a single review. I'm wating for IGN's mostly because they are normally right. (Kill Bill not withstanding)

You mean that we're the exceptions in that we hate the SEs and like, or at least appreciate, the PT?

If so, then yes. In my case, at least. I'll let Sessler speak for himself.

I hope Kevin Smith got paid a lot for writing that "Episode III is so freakin' awesome" crap. It should be more than enough to fund his next five films.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I don't think we can simplify these emotions too much. Dislike, disappointment, hate, love, like, etc tend to be used and over-used and if none of us gave a rat's ass about Star Wars we wouldn't be here- we're here because we love SOME aspect of it. But each of us different tastes and experiences... which is what makes the forum so cool. And if we get frustrated by other people's opinions then we're taking all this much MUCH too seriously. And that isn't pointed at anyone in particular- that goes for all I think

But.... For one, people just like to bitch about stuff- especially stuff that they can't usually bitch about at work or sometimes even at home. Also I would tend to generaliz that most SE 'haters' are pre-disposed to dislike the PT for way too many reasons to get in to. The SE are WRONG on several levels, IMHO, not the least of which just basic film preservation. That said, reaction to the PT (or what we've seen so far of it) seems to either be resignation or disappointment. We can't control what Lucas creates (though some of us try real hard! ) but we can compare our experience with the OT with what we see now in the PT. Had I never seen the OT in their original forms in the theater, my reactions would be very different. But geez- before we had a VCR and long before DVD or anything of the sort, I saw that blasted first movie 27 times in the theater!!! 27!!! I couldn't *dream* of seeing a movie that many time in theaters these days- I'd go broke! Many films these days don't even rate a second watch. And the ones I think do I cling to (or at least buy the DVD). If I tried, I could find some good in almost every movie I've seen (almost). But TPM...? It was hard for me too find much, other the light saber duel. But mainly I felt a sense of disappoinment after waiting all those years and getting THAT movie. Of course, the SE warned me that something was up.

So anyway I do tend to think that for many reasons Kevin Smith, like him or not (and I do) is not the most nonpartial critic to write a review of Star Wars stuff.

OK I just read Kevin Smith's review (now that I've seen the film I can read it), and I must say that he can be pretty much sure that GL will make sure that his "Passion of the Clerk" film gets very well funded, publicized and distributed. As the guys on AICN like to say: PLANT!
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering
